The Ufc returns to Japan this weekend with another Fuel TV card and, in truth, this one is pretty freaking stacked from top to bottom. For the complete preview of the card, including Facebook prelims, fellow WhatCulture.com columnist, Mitchell Stucky, joined me on the Getting Lucky Mma Podcast (E030). Main card preview below.
Main Card Preview
Dong Hyun Kim (16-2-1, 1) vs. Siyar Bahadurzada (21-4-1), Ww: Kim is a world class grappler and judoka, which was evident in his utter dismantling of Paulo Thiago, Bjj black belt, on the ground back at Ufc: Macao. The only people to defeat Kim are Demian Maia, the best Bjj master in all of mixed martial arts, and Carlos Condit, a fighter that is surprisingly effective in his offense from the guard and extremely well rounded in all areas.
Siyar makes a great story as an Afghan fighter with tremendous power, 11 KOs.

The Ufc finished off 2012 in grand style as Cain Velasquez (11-1) retook his Heavyweight title from the very man that won it off of him a year ago, Junior Dos Santos (15-2). In episode 013 of the Getting Lucky Mma podcast, I am joined again by co-host Marcus Mitchell to review all the action and the low points of Ufc 155. In part 1, we review all of the prelims on the Facebook and FX undercards. On part 2, we move on to the main card.

Ufc 155 Main Card Review
Episode (#013) Summary
Facebook Card: The card started out with an exciting Flyweight match-up with John Moraga (12-1) taking a third round submission over #7 ranked Chris Cariaso (14-4). This certainly puts Moraga solidly into the top ten and likely puts him a fight away from being a true contender.
They were followed by split decision king, Leonard Garcia (15-10-1) against upcoming prospect Max Holloway (7-1). Surprisingly,...

In episode #012, we’re back to preview the upcoming Ufc pay-per-view event, Ufc 155: Dos Santos vs. Velasquez 2. I’m joined by my co-host, Marcus Mitchell, as we delve into the Facebook prelims, the FX prelims, and finally the main card in what is sure to be contender for the best of the year.
Episode Summary: There are several jewels hidden away in the undercard that are definitely worth watching. One of the very best is the Flyweight match-up between John Moraga (11-1) and #7 Chris Cariaso (14-3). Both of these fighters love to stand and bang. You can expect fireworks, but we give the slight edge to Moraga with his high level wrestling pedigree.
Next comes Leonard Garcia (15-9-1) vs. Max Holloway (6-1) in a Featherweight match-up. Garcia has lost three straight and his most recent wins have come off of highly controversial split decisions over the Korean Zombie and Nam Phan.

After the dust had settled from Anderson Silva’s second round destruction of Chael Sonnen at Ufc 148 the one question that seemed to be on everyone’s lips was the same: Who can possibly stop Anderson Silva?
Silva is now on a record breaking fifteen fight win streak in the Ufc and there is no one who is even close to breaking his record. The Ufc is the pinnacle for every elite mixed martial artist in the world and the ultimate testing ground for fighters. Fights can end in the blink of an eye and there are numerous methods of victory. To have faced fifteen of the world’s best martial artists who all have varying realms of expertise and to remain undefeated is quite simply phenomenal.
Anderson Silva is in serious danger of cleaning out the middleweight division yet there are still some challenges remaining for him. Let’s...

The Ufc returns to Fox on Saturday with a main card that is sure to please. The main event sees Lightweight contenders Nate Diaz and Jim Miller squaring off with the winner likely to get a shot at the Ufc lightweight title. Elsewhere on the card Johny Hendricks faces perennial welterweight contender Josh Koscheck, Alan Belcher faces Jiu-Jitsu phenom Rousimar Palhares and heavyweights Pat Barry and Lavar Johnson square off.
Pat Barry v Lavar Johnson
The main card looks set to start with a bang. Barry, a vicious kickboxer, has 6 knockouts from his 7 wins while Johnson, a heavy handed brawler, has 14 knockouts from 16 wins. Both men like to stand and bang and this is undoubtedly a firm candidate for the Knockout of the Night honours. To put it simply someone is getting put to sleep. Blink and you might miss it.
Prediction: This one really could go either way but...

To Hellman and Back: An Evening with Monte Hellman is set for this evening at the Walter Reade Theater, and here's how the New York Times' Dave Kehr recommends you be there if you can: "The undisputed master of the existential road movie (Two-Lane Blacktop, 1971) will be present for a 6 pm sneak preview of his new feature, Road to Nowhere, to be followed by a rare screening of Mr Hellman's magnificently bleak adaptation of Charles Willeford's novel Cockfighter, starring Warren Oates as an itinerant gambler. A discussion with Mr Hellman follows the screening, as does a book party celebrating the reissue of the Willeford novel from PictureBox Books."
"Combining an almost quaint self-reflexiveness with state-of-the-art digital filmmaking, Road concerns the production of a film based on a controversial lovers' double-suicide in North Carolina," explains Nick Pinkerton in the Voice. "Director Mitchell Haven (Tygh Runyan) is determined to...

Redemption, thy name is Shogun
The main event at Ufc 113 featured a highly anticipated rematch between light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
While many believed that Shogun won the first meeting, Machida was still the odds-on favorite as most observers thought the Karateka's style was still too difficult to solve for Rua a second time.
But on Saturday night, Shogun proved that he had not only learned how to solve the “Machida Rubik’s Cube” but how to do it like a whiz kid. Rua pressured and assaulted Lyoto building on his previous use of leg kicks with an an overhand attack where Rua commented that he noticed a weak spot in Machida’s armor. After three minutes, Shogun landed the right hand dropping Machida and Rua finished “The Dragon” off on the ground.
Thus the much heralded “Machida Era” (this writer was definitely a member of that course) ends,...
