Who will be out next on “Project Runway”? Fans have been placing their bets here in our predictions center since last week’s show. Click here for our complete odds for episode seven, “Fashion, Inside Out,” in which the designers must create looks featuring couture undergarments.
Last week’s results took many of our users by surprise. Kayne Gillaspie, after all, won the season premiere design challenge and got a high score immediately thereafter in “Toying with Fashion.” But his unconvincing attempt at grunge put him on the chopping block in “Like Totally ’90s.” Our odds weren’t completely off the mark, though: Gillaspie was one of the top three designers we were predicting for elimination, and he’d come thisclose to elimination a couple of weeks earlier in “Coronation Day.”

“I’m super proud of who I am as a designer,” said Kayne Gillaspie in his exit from “Project Runway” in episode six, “Like Totally ’90s.” “I’ve grown so much since my high school days. But losing is still tough. It’s an emotional time. I want my ‘Project Runway’ legacy to be that I really showed the world my mind, my heart, my skill, my soul, and I was 100% authentic. Going out with grace is the way to go. That’s how Dolly would do it.”
It has been an unforgiving season on “Project Runway,” which has lived up to the phrase, “One day you’re in, and the next you’re out.” There’s no immunity from elimination as there has been in seasons past, so Viktor Luna won the grueling unconventional materials challenge, “Toying with Fashion,” only to be eliminated the very next week in “Coronation Day.

The challenge in Project Runway's "Like Totally '90s" episode may have drummed up nostalgia for the old-school days before Y2K, but the season so far has been rough for anyone who longs for the old-school days of Project Runway. The show's 20th season was billed as a return of the best of the best, from Season 1 to Season 19, but as of this week, four of the five eliminated designers have been from the show's first nine seasons. Not even winning the first challenge of the season could buy Kayne Gillaspie much time, as his '90s garment got him bounced from the competition in 10th place.

Given that last week’s Project Runway ended with half of the designers in tears, we expected Thursday’s follow-up to further explore the issues that led to those chilling final words: “This is going to divide us.”
Instead, Episode 6 opened with a brief chat between Anna Yinan Zhou and Korto Momolu, quickly wrapping up what was a seemingly complicated situation.

The “Seeing Red” challenge threw the “Project Runway” designers for a loop. It ended with the elimination of Hester Sunshine, but many seemed to think Anna Zhou was the least deserving. Will the results tonight in “Like Totally ’90s” be just as contested?
Kayne Gillaspie sat down with Zhou at the end of “Seeing Red” to ask if she thought it was fair that Sunshine was eliminated for sending something new down the runway when Zhou got high marks for what he thought was a derivative design. Korto Momolu thought it was “bullshit” that Zhou had one of the judges’ favorite looks. It was all because Zhou created a dress with ruffles that her rivals thought was too reminiscent of what she created in “Toying with Fashion.”

But fashion is subjective, so it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what the judges are looking for from week to week.

What does it take to win a design challenge on “Project Runway”? That’s the question the designers face every week on the fashion competition series where one day you’re in and the next day you’re out. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so the judges’ tastes and expectations can be a moving target. But there are a few generally consistent ways you can impress the panel: be original and forward-thinking, be modern, demonstrate a clear and consistent artistic vision, and for the love of God don’t be boring. All things being equal, it’s better to be ambitious than to play it safe. Scroll down to see who met those high standards and won their challenges every week in season 20, which was a special “All-Stars” edition of the series.

The only thing more ruffled than Anna Yinan Zhou‘s look on this week’s episode of Project Runway were the feathers of her fellow designers.
Thursday’s challenge required the 11 remaining contestants to craft ensembles that conveyed their unique points of view. The catch? They all had to use 15 yards of the same red fabric, resulting in “a lot of very similar looks,” according to judge Nina Garcia, who was also disappointed by how many minimalist designs and simple draped looks she spotted on the runway.

In fashion, one day you’re in and the next you’re out. That’s the guiding principle of “Project Runway,” now in its 20th season. Even in a year like this, which brings together experienced All-Star contestants from the show’s history, some outfits are bound to fail. The fashion design competition has strict time limits and no seamstresses around to help you sew, which can trip up even the most gifted artists. So who had the worst looks of the season according to judges Nina Garcia, Elaine Welteroth, and Brandon Maxwell? And did you agree with their withering criticisms? A very wise, very tall German woman once said: “In fashion, one day you’re in and the next you’re out.”

Last week’s “Project Runway” had a bit of a surprise ending. “Toying with Fashion” was an unconventional materials challenge where designers had to obtain their supplies from Fao Schwarz. Laurence Basse expressed disdain for the challenge from the beginning, and judge Nina Garcia chided her for not even trying. But they sent home Mila Hermanovski instead for an unfinished look without a point of view. Will we be surprised again this week?

For tonight’s episode, “Coronation Day,” the fans who have made their predictions here in our predictions center say Basse is the likeliest to go home after last week’s close call. She gets leading odds of 23/10 as of this writing. Next up in our eliminations forecast is Hester Sunshine with 39/10 odds. Sunshine is known for her eccentric looks that could land her at the bottom as easily as they could earn her a win.

"And the sleeves will also work for our Robin Williams challenge"
This week the designers have to create an avant-garde, androgynous look for a male and female model. I thought this a terrific challenge (finally) as it would force many of the designers to go out of their comfort zones and get their creative juices flowing. And some of them gave it a game go. Althea and Uli stepped up, and while their looks weren't a total success, at least they tried, unlike the ever-annoying Laura, who is obviously remaining because the show needs someone to hate.

"Why yes, I am wearing a butt plug with ... mud flaps?" Seriously, what the hell is this?
This week had the potential to be interesting, but the challenge was just too random to be completely compelling. The designers had to choose a picture from one their "fans" on "Social Media," which in this case means Twitter. They had to create something to complement the picture, while not copying it.
For me, the highlight was watching Anthony Ryan discuss being diagnosed with cancer, and how he charged full steam ahead with his life while undergoing chemotherapy. "Designing and fashion, that was who I relied on when I had cancer. It wasn't family or friends or doctors. It was myself and designing."
Even if he did look like a Solid Gold dancer while discussing it

We've only just said goodbye to the contestants of Project Runway's tenth season, and it's already time for a second go 'round for our All Stars! This season is a bit of a mixed bag - there's Joshua McKinley (the runner-up of the ninth cycle), Emilio Sansa, Althea Harper, Anthony Ryan Auld, Suede Baum, Laura Kathleen Planck, Ivy Higa, Peach Carr, Casanova, Uli Herzner, Kayne Gillaspie and Andrae Ganzalo. I only remember a handful of these people, but oh well. The group meets up at Parson's for the first time, where they continually call one another "amazing" in various forms. But wait - there's another contestant, and it's the hilariously amazing (pardon the expression) Wendy Pepper from season one! She's been known as a total bitch (not my words, I swear) and she's vowed not to change this time around, either - after all, (more)...

After the underwhelming Season Ten of Project Runway, I'm not sure it was a good idea for Lifetime to plunge immediately into a new cycle, as its easy to experience burnout (and this is the second All Stars series this year).
But luckily, this batch of designers is road tested for drama, skill and just a drop of crazy, so maybe they can deliver some excitement ...or at least, tears and slapfights.
The designers meet up, get acquainted (or re-acquainted), new host Carolyn Murphy informs them that the winner will receive the biggest prize in Runway history, with cash and fashion crap totaling $350,000 dollars, and then they are immediately thrust into the the thick of things (this series is only an hour an episode, which adds to the frenzy and eliminates the dull spots, thankfully).
Mentor Joanna Coles has them choose teams, and each team is assigned to create a mini collection with "attitude.

We can quibble about the name Project Runway: All-Stars, since I don't see prized contestants like Nick Verreos or Jillian Lewis in this lineup, but the second installment of Lifetime's alumni competition is probably going to be entertaining all the same. Truly. There are enough wild cards at play here -- each equipped with a wildly different skill type and level -- to make the season worth a run. The only problem? We need to rank which of these all-stars is destined for success. So here, just two days shy of Thursday's premiere, my predictions for the rankings of Project Runway All-Stars' new season. Spoiler: Pretty sure I made it work, guys.
13. Peach Carr
Now, I am a human being, so I love Peach Carr, her constant catchphrasing (Loved when she said that her skirt wasn't short enough to "show the good china?), and her ritzy suburban Chicago flair.
