Kim Gordon has shared “I’m a Man,” the latest single from her forthcoming album, The Collective.
With dissonant guitars, waves of crushing sound, and a skittering hip-hop beat courtesy of producer Justin Raisen, Kim Gordon takes aim at masculine identity on “I’m a Man.” She repeats the song’s titular claim throughout, describing a man’s psychological perspective and defense mechanisms. “It’s not my fault/ I’m not bringing home the juice/ I’m not bringing home the bacon,” she mutters, later asking “So what if I like a big truck/ Giddy up, giddy up/ Don’t call me toxic/ Just because I like a little butt.”
And yet, similar to her last single “Bye Bye,” Gordon begins to dismantle some of these ideas as she goes along. “I’d like to shave my beard just so/ Manicure my nails/ Put on a skirt/ But at the...

One-hit-wonders are an unusual thing. There are endless examples of artists that create something monumental that blasts its way into the pop culture zeitgeist and temporarily enchants and captures our attention. Then as quickly as they came, they seem to disappear. That is the idea behind 1996’s That Thing You Do! Written, directed by, and starring Tom Hanks as Mr. White- a big-time record producer who’s just discovered his next big talent- a small-town Pennsylvania rock n’ roll band with the potential to be the next big thing.
Now this movie was released in 1996 (as was a former entry into our own The Best Movie You Never Saw) and was Tom Hanks’ writing and directorial debut. Honestly, this is quite the freshman effort from the talented showman. The movie centers around The Wonders (formely the One-Ders), a local band that is struggling to find a good drummer before...

Adapted from Nathanael West’s scabrously funny 1939 novel, The Day of the Locust reunites the creative triumvirate of producer Jerome Hellman, director John Schlesinger, and screenwriter Waldo Salt, who had previously teamed up for Midnight Cowboy. Superficially, the two films would seem to be quite different. One is a contemporary tale shot documentary-style on the mean streets of late-’60s New York. The other is an exquisitely detailed period piece filmed largely on Paramount soundstages in L.A. Midnight Cowboy favors gritty realism, while The Day of the Locust descends into a kind of deranged surrealism. But the films are linked since they both focus on loners and outcasts, salaciously prod the seedy underbelly of their milieus, and expose the unforgiving flipside of the American Dream.
The biggest difference between the two films is that Midnight Cowboy mitigates its ultimately tragic denouement with a certain tenderness between its damaged protagonists.

Nicolette will get Chloe's secret out of her.
I don't know why Nicolette needs to put her nose in her ex's business, but Neighbours spoilers for the week of 12-11-23 say that Chloe will confide in her.
Whatever the story is, it involves Chloe's visit to the hospital -- that can't be good, can it?
Chloe's mother died of Huntington's disease in one of the series' most emotional stories, second only to Sonya's death from ovarian cancer, and Chloe learned soon after that she has the disease as well.
Thus, many fans speculate that Chloe's health is deteriorating and that she's keeping it to herself so she won't burden Elly.
If so, this story will be depressing, especially right before Christmas. Neighbours is one of the best at tragic soap tropes, especially medical-related deaths.
Fay's death was hard to bear, and Sonya's was so realistic I had...

Exclusive: Industry veterans Kevin Mitchell, Richie Fay and Scott Kennedy have joined forces to launch U.S. distributor ShowBiz Direct at a time when the domestic landscape is seemingly crying out for more companies capable of releasing sizeable multi-platform movies.
The LA and Dallas-based theatrical and digital distribution company tells us it is aiming to release mid-size to tent-pole releases that don’t always fit into the post-pandemic release strategies of major studios.
The team, which is backed by a number of individual investors, is currently in negotiations with multiple filmmakers and is tying up its first theatrical project which it aims to release in summer 2024.
The trio, known for their work at companies including Cinemark, AMC, Lionsgate and Miramax, told us: “We are looking for thought-provoking, commercially viable content, from smaller films through tent-pole releases, appealing to a wide audience. Studios have a narrow selection process on what they will distribute,...

There has never been so much behind-the-scenes BBC coverage of Doctor Who. “The Star Beast” ran for a single hour, but already has an in-episode commentary from David Tennant and producers Phil Collinson and Vicki Delow, a half-hour instalment of companion show Doctor Who: Unleashed, plus a half-hour official accompanying podcast. And that’s on top of all the interviews, features and in-depth looks from Doctor Who Magazine. Seekers of nerdy insights – our cup runneth seriously over.
For each of the three anniversary specials, and then continuing through Christmas 2023 and series fourteen, we can watch the episode, watch it again with the commentary, listen to the podcast and catch up with Steffan Powell’s exclusive Unleashed coverage. Do all that and you’ll probably need some kind of energy drink and a biscuit, but the fun titbits below are a taste of what you can glean.

TV can give viewers false expectations of adult friendship. How many people who watched “Friends” or “Living Single” or “New Girl” got into shenanigans nearly as often as the characters? But Phil Augusta Jackson, creator of NBC’s “Grand Crew,” he swears it’s based on his own friend group and the wine bar where they hung out… with a few liberties taken.
“When you have a hangout show like this, what we’re showing are the moments that they get to spend time together,” Jackson told IndieWire via Zoom. “They’re always at the bar, multiple times an episode, and that doesn’t necessarily feel like real life as far as the actual frequency. It can start to feel like they just, like, live at this place… but that’s what you have to do for storytelling.”
The show follows Noah (Echo Kellum), Nikki (Nicole Byer), Anthony (Aaron Jennings...

The Traitors fans were shocked and delighted by the reality show’s latest developments.
In the BBC One series, which ends on Thursday night (22 December), contestants are divided into “traitors” and “faithfuls”.
Faithfuls are kept in the dark about the identity of their enemies, and the traitors choose which players they want to murder as the series goes on. The faithfuls, meanwhile, select who they want to banish.
When the competition, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, ends, the few remaining players will share the prize pot (which is being built up via a series of challenges throughout the show) if they are all faithful.
But if there is still an undetected traitor among them, the traitor walks away with all the cash.
Warning: spoilers ahead for the Tuesday 20 December episode of the show.
With just eight players left out of the 22 who started the game on last night’s episode, following Fay’s departure,...
