Exclusive: Nashville’s famed Bluebird Cafe, the renowned songwriter-friendly venue that gave an early musical home to Taylor Swift, Garth Brooks, Faith Hill and many other country and pop stars, is getting the stage musical treatment. Bluebird, a new musical inspired by the cafe, is in the works from Something Rotten! co-creator Wayne Kirkpatrick and songwriter-producer Don Chaffer.
“The Bluebird is our Ryman Auditorium, our Carnegie Hall,” said Kirkpatrick. “If you know, you know. I can’t wait to share it with those who don’t.”
Sometimes called to “the Mother Church of Songwriting,” The Bluebird Cafe has, for the past 41 years, been a launching pad for countless songwriters and artists. Swift, for example, played the Nashville venue in 2004 when she was just 14. It was at the Bluebird, reportedly, that she was discovered by future Big Machine Records founder Scott Borchetta.

Exclusive: Synchronicity Films is following up its BBC drama The Cry with another Helen Fitzgerald television adaptation — this time based on her 2009 novel Bloody Women.
The production company has signed up Lorna Martin, the co-creator of Women on the Verge alongside Sharon Horgan, to adapt the novel into an eight-part, darkly comedic thriller. All3Media International is distributing as part of its first-look deal with Synchronicity.
Bloody Women tells the story of 33-year-old Cat Marsden, who on the morning of her wedding is taken to a police station and shown a severed penis. She tries not to laugh but she can’t help herself. On close inspection, she confirms that it almost certainly belongs to her ex, Johnny. She also confirms that she slept with him in the hours before his death, the days leading up to her wedding. What she can’t confirm is whether or not she’s responsible for mutilating and murdering him.

We love Nashville - the songs! the drama! - so we're thrilled it's coming back for a third season. But that's still a while away, so it's just as well the DVD is out to keep us occupied (and, um, singing) in the meantime.
To celebrate, we called up Sam Palladio - who plays Gunnar, of course - to find out more about the show (and what could be coming up in the future). Will there be a UK tour? How will Sam handle the live shows? What's going on with Scarlett or with Zoey? How will Will cope with being outed? And why does Sam want to be a playboy with the ability to fly next season? Read on to find out what we learned!
1. Don't worry, Sam isn't planning on losing his English accent any time soon (um, yeah, if you didn't know, he's English).

If youuuu didn’t know better, you probably wouldn’t realize there’s a new maestro behind the music of Nashville‘s second season (bowing Sept. 25 at 10/9c).
And that’s just how the ABC drama’s recently promoted executive music producer Buddy Miller wants it.
Miller, a Grammy-winning record producer and songwriter, has been involved with the country-music series from its inception — he even presided over Claire Bowen and Sam Palladio’s first crack at Scarlett and Gunnar’s inaugural duet. Over the past four weeks, primetime viewers have watched a tangled, soapy web of "love, power, money, family and music" unfold on ABC's country music drama Nashville. With every episode, those viewers have essentially had an album of new, original music revealed to them one, two, three tracks at a time. Though the show's ratings have been uneven, the songs are making quite a commercial mark. At press time, six Nashville tracks grace the iTunes country songs chart.

In his 27 years with the legendary Grand Ole Opry, Steve Buchanan knows country music. First starting as marketing manager and serving as president of the legendary concert venue since 1998, the executive has not only seen a who's who of country performers take the stage but has also seen the corresponding drama that takes place behind the scenes. It was that story that prompted Buchanan to take the first steps in 2010 to explore a scripted television series -- and the Opry's first -- with country music as its backbone. I have been with the Opry for over 27 years. I

Connie Britton won't be the only musical talent in the Jaymes family on ABC's Nashville. ABC's upcoming first-year drama has enlisted sisters Lennon and Maisy Stella to recur as Maddie and Daphne Jaymes, the musically gifted daughters to Britton's fading country star Rayna Jaymes. Nashville stars Britton as an aging country music superstar who is paired with Hayden Panettiere's rising star Juliette Barnes in a bid to revive her career. The series, which hails from Callie Khouri (Thelma and Louise), R.J. Cutler and Steve Buchanan, is as much about the country music scene as it is a family drama,

ABC's buzzed-about new drama "Nashville" is getting a new showrunner.
Dee Johnson, a veteran producer coming off Season 2 of "Boss" on Starz, has joined the show as an executive producer alongside creator Callie Khouri, pilot director R.J. Cutler and Steve Buchanan. She'll take over show-running duties from James Parriott, who was hired after the pilot but "turned out not to be a good fit," Deadline reports.
Johnson has also signed an overall deal with ABC Studios and Lionsgate, which are producing the series (Lionsgate also produces "Boss," which has finished production on its second season).
"Nashville's" pilot juggles a number of stories surrounding a country-music star (Connie Britton), her family, a young rival (Hayden Panettiere) and the city's music and political cultures. ABC wanted an experienced hand to work alongside Khouri, an Oscar-winning screenwriter ("Thelma & Louise") who is working on her first TV series.

Exclusive: There is a change at the helm of ABC’s high-profile new drama Nashville. Veteran showrunner Dee Johnson has come on board as executive producer/showrunner, replacing Jim Parriott. Johnson will serve as an executive producer alongside series’ creator Callie Khouri, the pilot’s director R.J. Cutler and Steve Buchanan. The showrunner gig will fall under a shared overall deal Johnson has closed with the two studios behind Nashville, Lionsgate TV and ABC Studios. Nashville, which is getting strong early praise, is a family soap set against the backdrop of the Nashville music scene that follows one star at her peak (Connie Britton) and one on the rise (Hayden Panettiere). Parriott joined the series, currently in production on Episode 3, after it had been picked up to series in May and assigned the Wednesday 10 Pm slot. Ultimately, it turned out not to be a good fit, which led to the showrunner change.

Terry O'Quinn as Gavin Doran in "666 Park Avenue" (ABC/Andrew Eccles)
ABC‘s slate of new shows for fall has a strange flavor to it, and it’s going to be a bumpy ride. The network has about as many new shows as returning ones (if you count all the midseasons), and a good percentage of the returning offerings are a year old or less, making this look a bit like a rebuilding year.
Not only is it a rebuilding year, but it’s the year of bringing back every actor and actress who ever had a decent run on a show before. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a network’s new season slate that was so crammed with people returning from something else. If you can’t make it good, I suppose, make sure viewers recognize the faces.
It’s tricky to get a solid feel...
