After 21 years, Rooster Teeth is shutting down.
“Since inheriting ownership and control of Rooster Teeth from AT&T following its acquisition of TimeWarner, Warner Bros. Discovery continued its investment in our company, content and community,” Rooster Teeth General Manager Jordan Levin said in a company memo. “Now however, it’s with a heavy heart I announce that Rooster Teeth is shutting down due to challenges facing digital media resulting from fundamental shifts in consumer behavior and monetization across platforms, advertising, and patronage.”
Around 150 staff are being affected, plus dozens of contractors and freelancers. A post from Rooster Teeth Community Manager Chelsea Atkinson asked that fans remember everyone at Rooster Teeth is “processing this in real time just like you,” and announced there will be a livestream about the closure March 7 on the Rooster Teeth website.

Rooster Teeth‘s Digital Creators Program is back for a second year.
First launched in March 2022, the Digital Creators Program is “designed to identify and develop aspiring and emerging digital content creators to widen diverse, equitable, and inclusive representation,” per Rooster Teeth.
Creators selected for the program “will receive education and training on production, marketing, business development, technical skills, content development, branded content, partnerships, writing workshops, improv training, media training, and more,” it adds.
The program’s inaugural class (chosen by Rooster Teeth and execs from its partner Warner Bros. Discovery Access) included ChelseaBytes, Christian Henley, DaGeecheeGamer, eyezcosplay, Katskratchh, Jabren, Girlthulhu, and Reem Eden.
During their three-month mentorship, these creators met with executives from Warner Bros. Discovery, worked on professional video sets, and filmed sponsored content with Rooster Teeth/Warner Bros. Discovery partners. They also raised $10,000 for children’s charity org Extra Life.

The podcast industry has evolved considerably since the last in-person VidCon in 2019. U.S. podcasting is now a 2 billion business, and one organization that has taken advantage of that shift in consumer attention is Rooster Teeth. Through its audio network The Roost, the Austin-based media company distributes podcasts from renowned creators, including Anthony Padilla, Grace Helbig, Mamrie Hart, and some of its own homegrown talent. These shows have collectively pulled in 87 million video views, according to The Roost's website.
Given how heavily Rooster Teeth has prioritized podcasting, I was curious to see how the company's execs would define "video podcasts" at a June 24 VidCon panel. The result was unexpected: Rooster Teeth co-founder Geoff Ramsey and podcasting head A.J. Feliciano claimed that a video podcast doesn't need to incorporate video at all, and some consumers won't even think of those videos as podcasts.

WarnerMedia-owned digital gaming and lifestyle brand Rooster Teeth has announced several new projects today, including a brand new podcast slate for its in-house studio, The Roost, as well as the dates for its second virtual Rtx convention, which will be held from July 8 to 17.
Joining The Roost’s existing podcast lineup -- which includes a just-added audio iteration of Anthony Padilla’s I Spent A Day With YouTube series -- are: Annual Pass, in which Rooster Teeth's Geoff Ramsey and Jack Pattillo scope out the latest theme park news; The Real Canon, covering all things nerd entertainment; and fictional comedy No Dumb Answers, which spoofs the podcasting genre itself. The Roost will facilitate distribution and ad sales for each of its new shows. The division says it quadrupled revenues and saw a 20% increase in listeners in 2020.

Rooster Teeth, the division of WarnerMedia’s Otter Media dedicated to sci-fi, gaming, animation and fandom, has canceled its flagship Rtx 2020 convention. Instead, it’s planning a virtual event for fans in its place.
The decision came after the Austin Public Health department determined that the annual convention cannot be held at the Austin Convention Center. It had been set to run Sept. 5-7, 2020 (after already previously been postponed from July).
“Despite all our wishes and best efforts to bring us together in person this year, due to citywide restrictions on large-scale events, Rtx Austin 2020 has officially been cancelled,” the company announced on its website Thursday.
Further details about the virtual Rtx event will be shared when they become available, Rooster Teeth said. Those who bought tickets will receive refunds, or they can opt to postpone their badge to Rtx 2021 (at this link), which is scheduled for July 9-11, 2021.

Rooster Teeth is uncoincidentally debuting its latest comedy competition series on 4/20. Titled Last Laugh, the venture -- part social experiment, part game show -- will see 12 contestants trapped in a room for six hours; whoever laughs, smiles, or smirks three times is eliminated until only one creator is left standing.
The unscripted series -- which will offer a $1,000 cash prize for one winner -- comes courtesy of Funhaus, a Rooster Teeth-owned gaming and comedy channel. The series was created by longtime Funhaus member and gaming personality Elyse Willems, with Rooster Teeth co-founder Geoff Ramsey serving as host, and Rooster Teeth’s Stephanie Ard directing.
The contestants are: James Willems, Adam Kovic, Willems, Jon Smith, Lindsay Jones, Michael Jones, Alfredo Diaz, Fiona Nova, Gus Sorola, Chris Demarais, Blaine Gibson, and Jessica Vasami. Each contestant has three lives, with one life lost for every smile, snicker, or full-on giggle.

Rooster Teeth is strutting its way into the fashion industry, one pop-up store at a time. In early August, the digital entertainment company hosted its second-ever live retail experience dubbed The Coop, a venture which pulled in more than 10,000 shoppers over the course of just four days.
The Coop appeared alongside Rooster Teeth’s 8th annual Rtx convention in downtown Austin, right across from the city’s convention center in a space called the Sunset Room. Originally, the company’s first pop-up store launched in Los Angeles in June 2018 and featured co-founder Geoff Ramsey’s original merchandise designs. Now, Ramsey is one of the leading voices for his company’s expansion into pop-up stores and merchandise aimed at a demographic with a more mature, refined taste in fashion.

Viacom, YouTube, and Rooster Teeth all appeared at the third day of the Television Critics Association (TCA) summer press tour on Friday.
Bet’s panel for “The Bobby Brown Story” was going well until the very end. Later, YouTube discussed budgeting their shows, and Rooster Teeth made their inaugural appearance at the press tour.
Here are three things we learned from Friday’s session.
1.Bobby Brown will need to be much more careful in future press appearances in promotion of the Bet miniseries “The Bobby Brown Story.” The iconic R&B singer had everything well in hand during most of his panel, taking questions about the death of his wife, Whitney Houston, and his daughter, Bobbi Kristina, in stride. All that stopped though when a reporter questioned Brown about an incident of domestic violence between himself and Houston in 2003. Rather than acknowledge his past sins–to which he admitted in...

Rooster Teeth has greenlit animated dark comedy series “Spikeface” from Rcg, the production shingle of Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton — the trio behind “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”
“Spikeface” will be produced in-house by Rooster Teeth Animation and will premiere in 2019 on Rooster Teeth’s subscription-streaming service, First, which is priced starting at $4.99 monthly.
McElhenney will executive produce the eight-episode original series, based on an idea by writers and executive producers Geoff Barbanell and Itai Grunfeld. 3 Arts Entertainment also will executive produce, along with Rooster Teeth co-founders Matt Hullum and Burnie Burns.
The series follows “one of the world’s great horror icons,” who slaughters a couple at a roadside motel — before he discovers they have a baby girl and decides to raise the orphan as his own. That pisses off his roommates, who also are iconic horror villains.
Casting and others details for the show have yet to be announced.

Several members of the Achievement Hunter, led by founder Geoff Ramsey, will attend the events, as will the hosts of the Funhaus channel, a gaming hub Rooster Teeth launched in February 2015.
After first launching Let's Play Live in its home city of Austin in 2015, Rooster Teeth brought its event series across the nation with a three-city tour that hit New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago in 2016. The 2017 edition of the tour will begin...

In 2014, the digital entertainment studio Rooster Teeth invited its fans to suss out the details of a murder-mystery when it launched a series called Ten Little Roosters. A sequel to that show has since been greenlit, and it is now just a few days away from its premiere date. A trailer The Eleven Little Roosters, a spy-mystery-thriller that looks to be bigger and bloodier than its predecessor.
The titular Roosters are international spies who must figure out which one of them is a traitor. In each episode, characters will be killed off, and the viewers who accurately predict plot points by synthesizing clues like hidden Qr codes, in-dialogue hints, and audio cues will win prizes.
Even for viewers who aren’t super sleuths, The Eleven Little Roosters will have plenty of entertainment value. Its offbeat characters will generate plenty of comedy, and Rooster Teeth aficionados will recognize many of their favorite personalities among the cast.

Rooster Teeth’s Geoff Ramsey has officially begun his tenure as a video game coach. The Achievement Hunter co-founder is the host of Schooled, a collaboration with At&T’s Hello Lab initiative that is now live.
Schooled was born out of a bet between Ramsey and his co-worker Gavin Free. Ramsey bet Free that he could teach a team of children to beat the Achievement Hunter gang at a video game. If the kids win, the Hunters suffer severe embarrassment. If the Ah Crew emerges victorious, Ramsey has to get Free’s nose tattooed on his body.
In the first episode of Schooled, we meet the crack team of youngsters assembled by Ramsey and his own 11-year-old daughter, Millie. With Ramsey as head instructor and Millie as a “froach” (friend and coach), the kids prepare to begin their training in the multiplayer video game Ultimate Chicken Horse.

For more than a decade, the team over at Rooster Teeth has committed itself to high-quality programming that marries video games to comedy. Now, with its latest series, Rooster Teeth is looking to shine light on the next generation of gaming stars. The Austin-based studio has partnered with the At&T Hello Lab for a competition series called Schooled.
Schooled will star Geoff Ramsey, the co-founder of Rooster Teeth and the ringleader of its Let’s Play team. Ramsey will recruit a group of young gamers between the ages of eight and 12 and will train them to face off against other members of the Rooster Teeth gang. If Ramsey’s coworkers emerge victorious, he will have to get fellow Let’s Player Gavin Free’s nose tattooed somewhere on his body, so the stakes are quite high.

Achievement Hunter (Ah) is upgrading both its digital and real-life digs. The Rooster Teeth gaming-centric subsidiary has announced the creation of a dedicated Ah YouTube channel, as well as a move to its very own offices a building over from Rooster Teeth’s.
In an announcement video from July 1, 2015, Ah members gathered in a disorganized bunch to reveal the news about the upcoming channel and offices. Many of the shows Ah currently hosts on the Rooster Teeth and Let’s Play channels, such as Awhu and Vs, will move to the new video channel. The YouTube destination for future Ah content will be found at youtube.com/achievementhunter.
Ah leads Geoff Ramsey and Jack Pattillo also set forth a challenge to their fans: if the new Achievement Hunter channel gets one million subscribers before August 6, the entire Ah team will host a 24-hour live stream event at the new office location.
