The MTV series Teen Wolf – which was loosely inspired by the 1985 comedy film Teen Wolf (watch our Awfully Good video on that movie Here) – wrapped up its six season run back in 2017, and back in January it got a feature film follow-up on the Paramount+ streaming service. (Read our review of Teen Wolf: The Movie at This Link.) Now Paramount+ is hoping that movie is going to rack up multiple Primetime Emmy Awards nominations.
Variety reports that the streaming service has submitted Teen Wolf: The Movie for Emmys consideration in the following categories: Outstanding Television Movie, Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie (Tyler Posey), Directing (Russell Mulcahy), Writing, Prosthetic Makeup and Original Music and Lyrics (“Lemon” by Tyler Posey).
Since Posey was also a producer on the film, Variety notes that these submissions give him three chances to earn an Emmy nod.

The wolf pack is hoping for Emmys love.
“Teen Wolf: The Movie,” Paramount+’s adaptation of the MTV supernatural-thriller series, has been submitted for the Primetime Emmy Awards for outstanding television movie, Variety has learned exclusively.
Moreover, the streamer also submitted the film in five other categories: lead actor in a limited or anthology series or movie (Tyler Posey), directing (Russell Mulcahy), writing, prosthetic makeup and original music and lyrics (“Lemon” by Tyler Posey). This provides Posey, who plays the True Alpha werewolf Scott and produces the film, three chances for recognition.

An unlikely contender to receive recognition, primarily based on the Academy ignoring the MTV original series, it’s fun to see networks throw hail marys for its genre programming. This year, the TV movie race is expected to have an abundance of genre films such...

Creative effects supervisor Erik Porn is a movie blood expert. His credits include “Teen Wolf” and “The Wretched.
When Porn starts making the blood for his films, his first step is purchasing methocel, a common slime ingredient seen covering Bill Murray’s character in “Ghostbusters.”
All it takes to make movie-level fake blood are ingredients found in the baking aisle. Porn uses corn syrup, red food coloring and cocoa powder to start. Blue and green food dyes are added to “give that deep brown look to your blood,” he says.
Porn also adds corn starch to the blood to thicken it and give it the appropriate consistency — and then it’s ready to be used. With completely edible ingredients, it can even be used as “mouth blood.”
Five pumps of hand soap can also be added to help the blood “stay on your hands a little bit better [so] it goes...

As cars lined up by the dozens to get into the Mission Tiki Drive-In before dusk on Friday night, the producer of one of the films showing at the four-screen outdoor venue was holding a clipboard, manning a guest list for cast and crew members who were driving across the L.A. County line to Montclair to celebrate the opening night of their very limited theatrical run. Like any movie that has bowed on the big screen in recent weeks, “The Wretched” is playing exclusively at what the trades used to call ozoners.
“I’ve been meaning to come out here for a long time, because a bunch of my filmmaker buds come out here,” said Chang Tseng, producer of the indie horror pic, which IFC released this weekend. “I haven’t been to a drive-in since I was 15.”

Headed to select drive-in theaters and on various digital platforms this weekend is The Wretched from the Pierce Brothers, Brett and Drew. A clever and thrilling take on various witch-centric folklore, The Wretched boasts some gnarly and awesome practical effects from beginning to end. To bring the film’s villain to life, as well as provide some other great effects moments to boot, Drew and Brett Pierce brought on Makeup Effects Supervisor Erik Porn, who worked tirelessly with his team to tackle the ambitious workload for The Wretched.
Years ago, this writer actually had the opportunity to work with Erik at Almost Human, and was able to see his talented efforts up close, which is why I didn’t hesitate for a moment to celebrate the brilliant effects that he created for The Wretched, as his nearly two decades in the industry working on a variety of projects have definitely served him well.

Hail to the almost chief. Vice, the film that transformed Christian Bale into various incarnations of George W. Bush’s former Veep Dick Cheney, scored the Oscar tonight for Best Makeup and Hairstyling. It’s the fourth Academy Award for makeup designer Greg Cannom and the first for his fellow Vice winners Kate Biscoe and Patricia DeHaney, both of whom were first-time nominees.
Read a transcript of their acceptance speech below.
The Annapurna Pictures film depicts Cheney in many iterations spanning a half-century, and Cannom said he was given free rein by writer-director Adam McKay, saying he was the best collaborator he could have asked for. “One day I was on set in the beginning,” the Oscar winner told Deadline in a recent interview,” and he walked in, and was just like, ‘How do you do this, Cannom? Are you a witch?’”

He dressed up in drag as Ursula from The Little Mermaid two years ago, and rocked a Miss Piggy from The Muppets look last year. So it was no surprise to see that this year, actor Colton Haynes would pick another iconic female in pop culture as his Halloween costume.
But ¡Ay, caramba!, this year’s choice might just be the most frightening of them all.
On Tuesday, Haynes debuted his Halloween 2017 outfit — turning heads as Simpsons’ matriarch Marge Simpson while hosting the second annual Black Magic Halloween Affair in Los Angeles, California.

Colton Haynes went to great lengths -- 2 weeks to be exact -- to pull off botched Miss Piggy. The "Arrow" star went all out soliciting Bitemares makeup artist Erik Porn -- yup, his real name -- to apply the makeup during a 4-hour sitting. Colton and Erik worked together on "Teen Wolf" and Erik gave him the ultimate hookup. The final product came together Saturday, but the grunt work started weeks before, when the head,...

Here at Dread Central we love us some Danielle Harris so any time she dips her toe into the horror blood pool, we try to be right there to give you guys the scoop! Case in point: Michael Rosenbaum's new horror short Fade into You, which not only looks appropriately sticky but has now drilled that Mazzy Star song completely into our heads for the rest of the day.
The flick stars Harris and another DC fav, Aj Bowen (House of the Devil, The Signal, Hatchet II), and as you'll see from the splattery good behind-the-scenes imagery below, it is also home to some killer effects work from Erik Porn of Rob Hall's Almost Human.
Update:
According to director Michael Rosenbaum:
"I wanted to do something that actually scares me. One night I was sitting in my jacuzzi, alone of course. And my dog starting growling at something.

This past September this writer headed down to Arkansas for a quick set visit for the upcoming slasher flick Madison County. With filming taking place on location in the actual namesake area, I quickly came to realize I had never felt as far from Hollywood as I did winding around those dusty, remote roads on my travels to and from the set.
The beauty, contrasted with the isolation in these mountainous areas, made for the perfect backdrop for the carnage about to hit Madison County.
Beyond the stunning scenery, what impressed me most while on the set of Madison County was the cast and crew’s adaptability to some truly guerrilla-style filmmaking in order to get the movie completed on time and within its budget. There were no Ramadas with turn-down service here - everyone was staying at a very modest (and insect-friendly) motel that even though it was the...

“I ultimately wanted to make a movie with my wife and my friends. I know it’s a ‘guy in a mask chasing a girl’ movie, but I wanted to see how good we could make that with nothing. Is it high-concept? Not really. But I hope it’s entertaining, and what I also hope is that people have a tolerance for story and character.”
Writer/director Robert Hall made those comments about Laid To Rest (out on DVD this week from Anchor Bay) in Fangoria #282, which features ChromeSkull, the film’s “guy in a mask,” on the cover. And while yes, Rest is entertaining, and yes, it does have likable characters, its story weaknesses ultimately weigh it down.
