In a Broadway season bursting at the seams with new musicals, plays and revivals – 36 productions opened during the 2023-2024 eligibility window – it is not a surprise that the 60 Tony Awards nominators caught theatre aficionados off guard with some of their choices.
The biggest surprise of the morning was the overperformance of new musical “Water for Elephants.” Our users only expected it to earn one nomination, but it ultimately ended up with seven, tying “Merrily We Roll Along” and beating out musicals such as “Suffs.” Its unexpected bids include the top category of Best Musical, director Jessica Stone, book and choreography. The one bid we thought it would land for featured actor Paul Alexander Nolan didn’t actually come to fruition. Speaking of surprise director noms, Michael Greif – who worked on three musicals this season – broke through for “Hell’s Kitchen.” He ranked ninth in our combined odds.

Daniel Radcliffe’s post-“Harry Potter” career has long been dominated by his theater work, both in New York and London. On April 30, he finally scored his first Tony nomination, for his role in the musical “Merrily We Roll Along.”
Radcliffe’s buzzy stage work began in 2007 with a run in “Equus” on both sides of the pond. He powered a delightful, blockbuster revival of “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” in 2011 (Grammy nomination), and since then, he has chosen an eclectic mix of projects, work where his name alone can often get challenging — or even just serious — work funded. Think the occasionally dense “The Cripple of Inishmaan,” the provocative “Privacy,” or the genre-bending experiment “The Lifespan of a Fact.” He’s long been an asset to the NY stage scene, and this morning’s recognition long-deserved.

The 2024 Tony Awards nominations were announced on Tuesday, May 2 by Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Renée Elise Goldsberry. The reveal of the roster of contenders was carried on the Tonys YouTube channel. Three dozen shows were eligible for consideration by the nominating committee. On the play side, there are 10 original works and five revivals in the running. Over on the musical side, 15 new tuners were in contention as were six musical revivals. The cutoff date for eligibility was April 27.
The Tony Awards are set for June 16 at Lincoln Center and will be hosted for the third year in a row by Oscar winner Ariana DeBose.

The 2023-2024 Broadway season has been positively packed with an abundance of talent as dozens of new productions danced across New York City stages. The nominating committee for the Tony Awards usually does a great job in selecting the best of the best, thanks to a fair system that requires committee members to see all eligible productions. But given the sheer volume of shows this season, David Buchanan and I thought it best to remind these voters of contenders most in need of recognition.
David and I sat down to stump for 10 Tony Awards hopefuls who find themselves on uncertain ground heading into nominations (plus a few shoutouts to some stellar designers). Watch the full video slugfest above to hear our passionate pleas to the voters on the nominating committee. Hey Tony voter nominators, please don’t forget these incredible artists!

“I think it’s just the stark reality of all the things that happened to this one person and the level of clearheaded determination she had,” shares Nikki M. James of what surprised her the most about Ida B. Wells, the suffragist she portrays in the new musical “Suffs” on Broadway. An early version of the musical by writer and composer Shaina Taub described the civil rights icon as “unflinching,” which the actress says is the “perfect word” for Wells. In addition to her “huge hutzpah,” the Tony Award winner admires how she balanced “all of her unbelievable work” with motherhood, which is something she herself is doing now, opening a new musical in New York while raising an 18-month-old child. “I just am in total awe of her and it’s a connection I think we share,” she adds. Watch our exclusive video interview above.

More celebs in attendance included Anna Wintour, Sara Bareilles, Darren Criss, Melissa McCarthy, Ben Platt and Noah Galvin, Rachel Brosnahan and Jason Ralph, and many more.

Daredevil: Born Again has gone through several changes following its creative overhaul in late 2023. From getting Dario Scardapane, Justin Benson, and Aaron Moorhead onboard to lead the series, and bringing back Karen and Foggy, to the recent return of Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Fisk, the show went through numerous favorable changes. However, it looks like this revamp has also concerned the fans about some characters being written off from the show.

Did anybody call for a lawyer?
We can barely contain our excitement about the news that Disney+ is bringing back Daredevil in a bid to reignite the character for Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The glimpses of Matt Murdock that we got on Echo and Spiderman: No Way Home were great, but we have missed this tortured, hopeless do-gooder and his heart of gold.
At the risk of sounding like a superfan (guilty), this Marvel nerd has faithfully watched everything that has led up to this moment, hoping for an eventual Daredevil return.
Now that it's actually happening, there's a lot to cover -- let's dive in.

Daredevil: Born Again is back in action in New York City, and fans are buzzing with the latest updates. The show had a bit of a shakeup with Dario Scardapane stepping in as the new showrunner, sparking lots of talks about what’s changing and what’s staying. But from what we’ve seen, things are looking good, and the core of the show seems intact.
Charlie Cox is back as Matt Murdock, and recent set photos have thrown a new twist into the mix. He was spotted in a cozy scene with Margarita Levieva, who’s playing Heather Glenn. Fans are wondering, will Matt and Karen’s spark reignite, or is Heather the new main squeeze?...

Daredevil: Born Again’s Production Update To Cast & Release Date; Here’s Everything We Know!(Photo Credit –Facebook)
Charlie Cox’s Daredevil got a second chance when it appeared in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home as the fans appreciated and praised him. After the 2021 MCU film, the fans demanded to bring him back and his version of Matt Murdock. Cox reprised his role again in the Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Besides Cox’s character’s return, the brutal villain from the Netflix series, Kingpin, played by Vincent D’Onofrio, also returned in his glorious self in the series Hawkeye. Hillary Clinton and Malala Yousafzai will be making their Broadway debuts… as producers!
The former Secretary of State and the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate have joined the producing team of the upcoming Broadway musical Suffs, which will open next year.
Suffs, written by Shaina Taub, originally ran off-Broadway last year at the Public Theater and now it will play at the Music Box Theatre with an official opening night on April 18.
It’s 1913 and the women’s movement is heating up in America, anchored by the suffragists — “Suffs,” as they call themselves — and their relentless pursuit of the right to vote. Reaching across and against generational, racial, and class divides, these brilliant, flawed women entertain and inspire us with the story of their hard-won victory in an ongoing fight. So much has changed since the passing of the Nineteenth Amendment over a century ago, and yet we’re reminded sometimes we need to look back,...

The Man Without Fear is set to make his return to the Marvel Universe with Daredevil: Born Again. Charlie Cox will be suiting back up (likely in the new yellow color scheme seen in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law) as Hell’s Kitchen resident Matt Murdock. Cox will be joined by the former Netflix series cast Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher as well as include Sandrine Holt as Vanessa Fisk. There are also actors in undisclosed roles, including Margarita Levieva, Nikki M. James, Michael Gaston, Arty Froushan, and Clark Johnson.
One actor whose role in the upcoming Disney+ show used to be undisclosed is Michael Gandolfini. That is until Marvel lowkey revealed who he will be playing. According to Cbr.com, the pilot episode has been listed at the U.S. Copyright Office, and Gandolfini’s role is listed as Daniel Blade.

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is among the highly anticipated Marvel Studios releases, but it faces delays due to recent strikes, extending the wait for fans. While not officially confirmed, the listing suggests a potential release in 2025, attributed to strikes by WGA and SAG-AFTRA. Despite the WGA strike’s resolution, the SAG-AFTRA strike persists, possibly delaying the release. Filming started in March but paused in June, complicating the production of the ambitious 18-episode season.
Additionally, a discouraging rumor suggests episodes where Daredevil “does not suit up at all.” The synopsis teases a reunion between Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk as they navigate their dual identities and try to move on toward a different kind of future while their past catches up with them.

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is one of the most anticipated Marvel Studios releases so far. Recently, news hit that due to the recent strikes, the production faced several delays, meaning that the show has been postponed yet again.
Although not officially confirmed, the listing implies a year-long wait for fans. Originally slated for early 2024, the series was removed from the schedule due to strikes by WGA and SAG-AFTRA. While the WGA strike has ended, the SAG-AFTRA strike persists, pushing the potential release to 2025 at the earliest. Filming began in March but halted in June, and with an ambitious 18-episode season, production delay is evident.

Steven DeKnight, showrunner on Netflix’s Marvel Daredevil series, calls the upcoming Disney+ series “an old Disney scam” that will keep the Netflix series creatives from getting what is due to them financially.
Written and executive produced by Covert Affairs‘ Matt Corman and Chris Ord, the new installment centers on Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, otherwise known as Matt Murdock, an attorney by day and crimefighter by night. Vince D’Onofrio reprises his role as mob boss Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin.
DeKnight served as the showrunner for the first season of Netflix’s Daredevil, which launched in 2015 and ran for three seasons.
DeKnight was responding to a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) by a grip named Thomas, who is part of the IATSE union that represents film, TV and stage crew workers.
Thomas wrote that the retitling of the series is “a f***ing scam”, designed to reset guild contract terms to Season 1 levels.

The original ‘Daredevil’ series ran for three seasons on Netflix between 2015 and 2018. The series was critically acclaimed, and many superhero fans still consider it one of the best superhero shows ever made. The series followed the blind titular character, played by Charlie Cox, and his adventures as a lawyer during the day and the Man Without Fear at night.
The series finished its run on Netflix after Disney brought the rights back to Marvel Studios. The fans started a large social media campaign to save the series, and their prayers were ultimately answered in July 2022 at San Diego Comic-Con when the Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced a new series, ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ with Cox set to return and Vincent D’Onofrio reprising the role of Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin.
A new rumor might explain why Foggy Nelson and Karen Page won’t return in the upcoming series!

When Daredevil: Born Again comes to Disney+, the 18-episode presentation will reportedly be divided into two parts, with multiple story arcs making up the overall adventure. This rumor hails from industry insider Daniel Richtman, who’s keeping tabs on the Marvel production, which is currently on hold due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Richtman says Marvel plans to break the series into multiple story arcs, with two or three episodes dedicated to each segment.
Additionally, Richtman says Daredevil: Born Again strives for a TV-ma rating, adding to the short list of mature content offered on the service as Disney+ prepares to merge with Hulu in the U.S. This tidbit should please fans of the Man Without Fear after many complaints about the character’s lighter tone in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

Hello, and welcome to another edition of “trying to work out what Daredevil: Born Again will be about by examining all the set photos and footage coming out of the show’s ongoing NYC shoot”. As always, I’ll be your host, and today we’ll be taking a trip down (recent) memory lane, because some new images have got Marvel fans wondering whereabouts in the MCU’s timeline Born Again actually takes place.
The new pics show Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) strolling down a street wearing his iconic red glasses, and passing a Baptist Church. Nothing too fascinating about that, however, the bulletin board at the front of the church is dated March 15, 2020, aka the middle of The Blip, when half of the universe’s denizens were dust in the wind.

With filming on Disney+ Marvel series Daredevil: Born Again now well underway in New York City, star Charlie Cox has been spotted back on set dressed as lawyer Matt Murdock, complete with the character’s iconic red glasses and cane.
Cox is accompanied in the new Born Again set photos by smartly-dressed co-star Nikki M. James (Severence), who plays a new addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming Disney-fied version of the Netflix show. Marvel has not confirmed the name of James’ character, but she’s rumored to be playing assistant district attorney Kirsten McDuffie, who was once romantically linked to Matt in the pages of Marvel Comics. To be fair, you can’t throw a stone in the Marvel Universe without hitting someone Matt’s been romantically linked to! The old dog.

In his best film, 2017’s The Big Sick, director Michael Showalter showed a deft hand balancing interracial rom-com conventions with an affecting dash of hospital drama to deliver a love story distinguished by humorous, culturally specific insights and tender depth of feeling. Spoiler Alert in many ways is a queer companion piece, exploring another relationship drawn from real life, this time between gay men. A Wounded Fawn Trailer: A Killer Cat-And-Mouse Game With A Surrealist Twist Hits Shudder In December
If you haven't already noticed, Shudder has been on a roll with its original acquisitions this year. From "Mad God" to "Resurrection" and everything else in between, it has proven itself as the premier horror speciality streamer. Now, it looks to add to its increasingly demented collection with Travis Stevens' surrealist rollercoaster "A Wounded Fawn."
You think you might know where this movie is going based on the first half of its new trailer. An obviously creepy man (Josh Ruben) lures an art collector named Meredith (Sarah Lind) to his secluded cabin in the woods. When she realizes that he may have sinister motivations, their dangerous cat-and-mouse game commences. However, there's something much more sinister going on behind this conventional plot, if the bizarre imagery involving demons and snakes throughout the trailer proves anything.
"A Wounded Fawn" had its world premiere earlier this year at the Tribeca Film Festival before...

If a story is based on real-life events, can it ever really be spoiled? That's one of those infamous internet arguments that will rage on until the end of time, especially as the biopics keep pouring in from Hollywood. But the latest entry into the genre doesn't care how you feel about knowing the ending — it's leading with the inevitable, then rewinding to tell the full story.
"Spoiler Alert" is based on the memoir by TVLine founder and entertainment reporter Michael Ausiello, and follows the 14-year relationship between Michael (Jim Parsons) and Kit (Ben Aldridge) prior to Kit's eventual death from cancer. Everything -- from the synopsis to the trailer to the title of the memoir -- openly reveals this film's ending: "Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies."
Toeing the line between heartwarming and tearjerking, "Spoiler Alert" looks to be in very good hands with director Michael Showalter, known for penning...
