As celebrated interior designer Michael Smith once noted, “Los Angeles is a dinner party town,” an observation that may explain the city’s house-proud fueled obsession with real estate and interior design. May’s one-two punch of design festivals — La Cienega Design Quarter Legends and the inaugural Design Miami.LA — celebrates our passion for all things home.

Steven Spielberg’s next project will not be a movie, with the Oscar-winning director joining the Biden campaign to provide strategy for August’s Democratic National Convention in Chicago, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Reps for Spielberg had no comment on the news, first reported by Puck.
The filmmaker has long supported President Biden, and Spielberg’s friend and former DreamWorks business partner Jeffrey Katzenberg is now a chair of the Biden campaign. In the past several months, Spielberg has attended multiple strategy sessions, offering his insights on how best to tell the president’s story and highlight Biden’s second-term vision at this summer’s convention as he gears up for a November rematch with former President Donald Trump.
Puck also reported that Spielberg helped with the 2020 convention, held virtually at the height of Covid-19. The director does not currently have plans to create a film portion for this summer’s events,...

Norby Williamson, the ESPN veteran who has managed everything from NFL coverage to “SportsCenter,” is leaving the Disney sports-media giant abruptly just weeks after being called out on camera in a surprise and unprecedented outburst by daytime host Pat McAfee.
The McAfee contretemps is not at the root of Williamson’s departure, according to a person familiar with the matter, but rather disagreements between the executive and the longer-term strategy being devised by Burke Magnus, who was handed oversight of content and news production in March of last year.
“Almost 40 years ago in 1985, I was so very fortunate to be offered an opportunity at ESPN,: Williamson said in a statement that was issued in a memo to staffers Friday. “Due to the exceptional hard work, creativity and commitment of the people of ESPN, and to a much lesser extent my contributions, I’d like to think we’ve left...

As the Israel-Hamas crisis enters its third month, Hollywood, with its sizable Jewish population and increasing divides among liberals as well as progressives over justice issues, has emerged as a proxy informational battle-space in the conflict. There is a nervousness among industry insiders connected to the Golden Globes that activists may take advantage of the global reach of the kick-off major awards season event — the first to be televised since Hamas’ Oct. 7 massacre — for their own ends.
The Beverly Hills Police Department tells The Hollywood Reporter that it’s working in tandem with neighboring law enforcement agencies as well as the FBI to prepare for protests. “At this time, we are not aware of any threats to the events or its attendees; however, we are aware of world events,” says lieutenant Renato Moreno. “As a result, we have staffed extra police personnel.”

After a weekend of schmoozing with the Hollywood elite, Joe Biden departed Los Angeles on Sunday with his re-election campaign more than $15 million flusher.
The boffo fundraising figure for the weekend was confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter by a source close to Jeffrey Katzenberg, the DreamWorks and Quibi co-founder and Biden campaign co-chair. The haul would be a record for a president or presidential candidate on a single fundraising trip to Los Angeles, and tops the $15 million Barack Obama raised in 2012 at a reception held at George and Amal Clooney’s house.
The president and First Lady Jill Biden began their whirlwind 36-hour tour of Los Angeles after landing on the West Coast on Friday, eventually hitting six private fundraising events and also finding time to attend the shiva of TV icon Norman Lear, who died Tuesday at age 101.
The couple kicked off a weekend of fundraising activity by speaking at a Holmby Hills event.

Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden wrapped up a weekend of fundraising in Los Angeles on Sunday, with a record amount raised.
More than $15 million was raised through the weekend, including for the Biden Victory Fund, said campaign co-chair Jeffrey Katzenberg, founding partner of WndrCo. That is the most raised for a single visit to Los Angeles of any president or presidential candidate, he said.
It also surpassed the amount raised by Barack Obama in May, 2012, when Obama headlined a fundraiser at the home of George Clooney and co-hosted by Katzenberg. That fundraising trip brought in almost $15 million.
Through the weekend, Biden and the first lady headlined seven events, including private gatherings with high-dollar donors and a Hollywood-centric fundraiser on Friday evening at the Holmby Hills home of James Costos, the former U.S. ambassador to Spain, and designer Michael Smith. President Joe Biden kicked off a weekend of fundraising activity in Los Angeles Friday night, speaking at an event, which also featured Steven Spielberg and Shonda Rhimes.
As the first Hollywood-centric fundraiser of his reelection campaign, Biden used his time on the stage to call out Donald Trump and explain why he poses the “greatest threat” to democracy.
“This is an incredibly successful night,” the president said at the beginning of his speech, according to the Associated Press, before joking that he didn’t want to talk long because he was “the only thing standing between you and Lenny Kravitz.”
The Grammy-winning singer performed at the event hosted by celebrity interior designer Michael Smith and his partner, James Costos. The latter of whom said earlier that supporters from across the country came to attend the fundraiser: “This is not just a Hollywood gathering, it’s more like a national event.

Updated, with complete remarks: President Joe Biden told the crowd at a fundraiser this evening, “You’re the reason that Donald Trump is a former president, or he hates when I say it, a defeated president.”
At the Holmby Hills home of designer Michael Smith and former ambassador James Costos, Biden rallied his donors, many of whom backed him in the last campaign, while turning his focus on his likely 2024 rival. He spent a substantial part of his remarks warning of Trump as a threat to democracy, a contrast that many of the president’s steadfast backers believe will boost support as the 2024 campaign gets in full swing.
“Literally, I believe, the future of democracy is at stake,” Biden said, according to a pool report. “The greatest threat Trump poses is to our democracy, because if we lost that, we lose everything.” Read his complete remarks at the end of the story.

When Joe Biden made a fundraising swing through Democratic donor strongholds in San Francisco, Chicago and New York last month, one city was noticeably absent from the list: Los Angeles.

Biden has called for writers to get a “fair deal they deserved” and, after the SAG-AFTRA strike was called, the White House made a similar statement, but sources say there are concerns of the president trekking to an event where he would be mired in the politics surrounding the labor impasse, or that he would be seen taking money from studio sources given his pro-union stance.

As she moves forward into the next phase of her career, with the desire to produce content outside of sports, we wish her the best and thank her for her work.

The new series Gotham is still finding its feet and many of the cast members seem unsure of where to go with their roles. However, there is one definite bright spot in the series and that’s Robin Lord Taylor as the Penguin, who’s by far the best thing on the show.
The good news for Gotham fans is that the show has been expanded for additional episodes. One of the main reasons for that is Robin Lord Taylor’s scene-stealing role as Oswald Cobblepot, Aka the Penguin. These extra episodes will allow the series more time to find its footing because it’s still raw and needs to cook a bit more before it reaches its potential. In the meantime, however, Taylor’s scenes as the Penguin are always the highlight, and viewers can be carried along through the weaker points of the show by the anticipation of his scenes.

With ratings and revenue on the rise, basic cable is taking aim at network TV's supremacy.
When Conan O'Brien string-dances on TBS this November, it'll mark a major victory for cable television, which has long been considered second string to big broadcasters ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC. But any way you slice it -- reach, revenue, ratings, and (as Team Coco shows) respect -- cable is king. Today, with about 90% of Americans now subscribing in some form, basic cable is basically the norm. Revenue is rising, up 14% over the past two years, to $48 billion, compared with a 4% slump for broadcast channels, to $16 billion. "Broadcast television's audience share has been eaten away," says Bill Gorman, media analyst and cofounder of TV by the Numbers. "The danger to broadcast TV isn't the Internet -- it's cable."
