Bollywood outsider Aditya Seal does not agree with the allegation that nepotism reigns in the film industry and, without taking names, says some brainless person has glamourised the word.

Film CommentaryThe whole premise of the ‘Vishwaroopam’ films is rather troubling – a privileged Hindu has produced and directed a film where he plays a Good Muslim disguised as a privileged Hindu.Sowmya RajendranIt's not unusual for films with a patriotic theme to release around Independence Day. This August, we had the Hindi film Mulk hitting the screens on the 3rd and Kamal Haasan's Vishwaroopam 2, releasing on the 10th. Both of them, interestingly, are about terrorism and Islam. While Mulk bravely takes on Islamophobia, Vishwaroopam 2 is the sequel to a film that saw protests for its anti-Muslim politics, although the hero (Kamal Haasan) plays a Muslim man. The first film, Vishwaroopam, was supposed to release for Republic Day in 2013, but because of the protests (which Kamal firmly believes were politically motivated), it hit the screens only outside Tamil Nadu. It was February 7 by the time the film was...

Vishwaroopam 2
Starring: Kamal Haasan, Waheeda Rehman, Shekhar Kapoor, Anand Mahadevan, Pooja Kumar, Andrea Jermiah

Rating: *** ½ (3 a half stars)
The best thing about this lengthy lumbering but never uninteresting odeto anti-terrorism is the lovely wizened Waheeda Rehman. But we have to wait till after interval point for her to show up.
The veteran actress is cast as the protagonist’s mother who suffers a memory loss and can only remember her son as a dancer not a nationalist fighter. If you’ve seen the first Vishwaroopam film 5 years ago you’d remember what the lady has forgotten. Kamal Haasan Kathak recital in the film resonated rather quaintly with all the macho desh bhakti/jihadi stuff as he had infiltrated into a Jihadi camp as an Islamic insurgent.

With faint similarities to Unnai Kannadhu Njaan from the first film, Naannaagiya Nadhimmlamae portrays the warmth of a mother-son relationship. The song is a charming composition by Ghibran and Kamal Haasan that explores the relationship between a mother and a son from the time of birth. Kaushiki Chakraborty’s melodious voice renders the mother’s response to Kamal Haasan’s verse. The song has Waheeda Rahman gracing the silver screen after a long gap. Reports have it that the legendary actor will be seen playing the role of a dancer in the movie while the song shows Waheeda being moved around in a wheelchair. The latest official announcement is that this song's live performance will be telecast on Sunday July 1, in the Bigg Boss Tamil show. Along with the performance, the theme music of the movie will also be released. Set in India, Vishwaroopam 2, directed by Kamal Haasan himself, takes the story forward from where the first part ended. Produced by Raaj Kamal Films International, the film stars Kamal Haasan, Pooja Kumar, Andrea Jeremiah, Shekhar Kapur, Rahul Bose, Jaideep Ahlawat and Waheeda Rehman in prominent roles. The movie will simultaneously release in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages on August 10 this year.

KollywoodKamal Haasan recently made an announcement that the track would be launched during 'Bigg Boss 2'.Digital NativeDigital NativeThe first single track from actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan's Vishwaroopam 2 will be out soon. Kamal Haasan has decided to launch the first single track of Vishwaroopam 2 during the upcoming weekend show of Bigg Boss 2, an announcement that the actor himself made on the show last Sunday. Written, produced and directed by Kamal Haasan himself, the film is a sequel to his 2013 super hit, Vishwaroopam. While the music of the prequel was composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Vishwaroopam 2 has been composed by Ghibran. The film will be hitting the screens on August 10 and will simultaneously release in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi. The film will see Andrea Jeremiah, Pooja Kumar, Bollywood actor Rahul Bose and director-actor Shekhar Kapur, reprising their respective roles from the original. Recently, the actor-director had released the trailer of the film Vishwaroopam 2 and it went viral. Touted to be a spy thriller, Vishwaroopam 2 was put on hold following the producer of the film Ascar Ravichandran failed to clear the remuneration of the cast and crew, including Kamal Haasan's. After which, last year Kamal Haasan himself reportedly took the film under his home banner, Rajkamal Films International. Kamal also has his much-delayed film Sabash Naidu, co-starring his daughter Shruti Haasan, put in cold storage for various reasons. The film is all set to be revived this year. The actor said in a recent interview that he will be wrapping up Sabaash Naidu first before proceeding with the Shankar directorial Indian 2. Sabaash Naidu is the spin off the character Balram Naidu in the 2008 hit film Dasavatharam which had Kamal playing 10 different characters. After this Haasan will collaborate with his Indian director Shankar for the sequel of his 1996 blockbuster that had the actor play dual roles. The film was formally announced last year during the grand finale of Bigg Boss season 1 Tamil. KollywoodThe film, which is set to release on August 10, is the sequel to Vishwaroopam which released in 2013 amidst a lot of controversy. Tnm StaffThe trailer of Kamal Haasan’s highly anticipated Vishwaroopam 2 was released on Monday. The Tamil version was released by the actor’s daughter Shruti Haasan, while the Hindi version was released by Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan. Telugu star Jr Ntr launched the Telugu version. The action-packed trailer has Kamal Haasan asserting that it's fine to belong to any religion but that it's wrong to be a traitor to one's nation. The film also gives us a glimpse of Andrea (who plays Kamal's colleague in the film) and Rahul Bose, among other actors. The trailer suggests that Wisam Ahmad Kashmiri gets back together with his estranged wife, played by Pooja Kumar. We also get a shot of Wisam as Viz, the Kathak dancer, suggesting that he may still be sticking with the disguise for a part of the film. The stunt sequences look proming. Ghibran's background score complements the high action in the trailer. The film, which is set to release on August 10, is the sequel to Vishwaroopam which released in 2013 amidst a lot of controversy. The film faced opposition from Muslim groups which claimed that it should be banned because it portrays Muslims as terrorists. Kamal Haasan, however, claimed that the protests were politically motivated. He defended the film, stating that he was playing a Muslim man who is the hero of the film. After the death of former Tn Cm Jayalalithaa, Kamal Haasan openly said that he had been targeted and harassed by her during the time. The actor is said to have suffered heavy financial losses because of the controversies surrounding the film. His experiences are believed to be among the reasons for his decision to take the plunge into politics after Jayalalithaa’s demise. In Vishwaroopam, Kamal plays a dancer who is actually a Raw agent. Others in the cast included Andrea Jeremiah, Pooja Kumar, Rahul Bose, Shekhar Kapur and Nassar. The sequel retains the core cast. This is Kamal’s first film release after he announced his decision to enter politics and formed the Makkal Neethi Maiam party. KollywoodA sequel to the hit film ‘Vishwaroopam’, the spy thriller is directed by Kamal Haasan who also plays the lead in the movie.Digital NativeDigital NativeActor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan’s Vishwaroopam 2, which has been on the back burner for a long time, resumed the final schedule last November and was wrapped up soon after. Recently, the Tamil and Telugu versions of Vishwaroopam 2 completed the censor formalities and obtained a U/A certificate. According to reports, the Central Board of Film Certification (Cbfc) has ordered 17 cuts in the film. While a section of the board members reportedly recommended a U/A certificate, others wanted to certify the film U. Vishwaroopam 2, a sequel to the hit film Vishwaroopam, is directed by Kamal Haasan who also plays the main lead. Although shot as a single film, the makers planned to release it in two parts due to its length. It follows the story of an Indian spy, played by Haasan himself, who befriends a notorious terrorist, played by Rahul Bose, and tries to bring down his empire. The first part was lauded for its high octane action and taut screenplay. The flick also stars Pooja Kumar, Andrea Jeremiah, Shekhar Kapur, Waheedha Rahman and others. While the first part had music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, the music for the sequel is composed by Ghibran. Sanu Varghese and Shamdat Sainudeen handled the camera while Mahesh Narayanan was roped in for editing. Vishwaroopam 2 involves a lot of VFX, which is one of the major reasons for the delay in its release. Produced by Raaj Kamal International, Aascar Film Pvt Ltd and Balaji Motion Pictures, the film’s distribution rights have been acquired by Eros International. Kamal, who recently confirmed that he will be hosting the second season of reality show Bigg Boss Tamil, also has Indian 2 with director Shankar in his kitty, which will start rolling soon. The project will only go on the floors after Shankar is completely relieved off 2.0 while Kamal is expected to wrap up Vishwaroopam 2 and Sabash Naidu. (Content provided by Digital Native)...

Although he’s ventured into politics full time, the actor has a couple of films pending release. Vishwaroopam 2, the sequel to his 2013 spy thriller Vishwaroopam is gearing up for release later this month. Kamal Haasan from his official Facebook page has announced that the trailer for the film will be released soon. Vishwaroopam that came out in 2013 was embroiled in controversies. Caught between two factions, Hindu Makkal Katchi (objecting to its name) and Muslim groups in Tamil Nadu (citing that the film would hurt Muslim sentiments), Kamal took on theatre owner groups when he announced his plans of premiering the movie Dth (Direct to home). All hell broke loose when the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Jayalalithaa defended the ban on the film. When asked why she supported the ban, she cited law and order concerns. Eventually, allegations that the film was anti-Islamic were quashed and an amicable solution was reached when Kamal agreed to remove a few scenes from the film. With his recent entry into politics, the film is sure to have his political ideologies and thoughts embedded into it. Kamal has also announced his plans to work on a sequel to his 1996 film, Indian 2, with director Shankar. Vishwaroopam 2 is being produced by Venu Ravichandran in Tamil and by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor in Hindi as Vishwaroop 2. Actors Rahul Bose, Pooja Kumar and Andrea Jeremiah are reprising their role in this film as well. While the film began production in 2013, it was later shelved due to delays and finally revived by Kamal Haasan last year. While the teaser of Rajinikanth’s Kaala is being premiered on March 2, the two actors might lock horns on-screen as well with the release of their films.

Film: "Vishwaroopam"; Director: Kamal Haasan; Actors: Kamal Haasan, Rahul Bose, Pooja Kumar, Andrea Jeremiah, Shekhar Kapur and Jaideep Ahlawat; Rating: ***1/2 - technical wonder with flawed narrative.
Kamal Haasan, known for pushing the envelope with every film, has successfully managed to give us a Tamil film made on par with international standards. With "Vishwaroopam", Kamal treads territories - both technically and narratively - like no other Indian filmmaker ever. As controversial as it may appear, or doctored to be one, the film, even when looked through the magnifying glass, doesn't hurt the sentiments of any community,.

First things first. Kamal Haasan’s enormously controversial film doesn’t hurt Muslim sentiments. In fact it doesn’t hurt the sentiments of any section of the people except those party-poopers who think having a ball at the movies went out of style with Sholay and Chachi 420.
Leave aside its sobering take on global warfare, Vishwaroop is one helluva entertainer. If you’ve forgotten what edge-of-the-seat entertainment mean, then it’s time to rediscover that pleasure. Stylish and substantial the narrative weaves and winds its way into coherent and compulsive threads that bring together the theme of international espionage with the more sensitive issue of the Islamic and the personal identity of a man whose heroic stature grows out of a sense of commitment to the country and to world peace .

Being a Kamal Hassan film, Vishwaroop had interests invested in it way before the filming started. The knack that Kamal Hassan has at bringing something new to the industry through film was evident again so while I am one of those that loves a good commercial film, Vishwaroop clearly was nothing of the sort. With Rajkamal International coming back to produce this Kamal Hassan written and directed feature, the film is as action packed and suspenseful as the trailer led us to believe.
