The Hi-Pointe Theater, at 1005 McCausland Ave in St. Louis, is the best place to see movies. Catherine Deneuve and Juliette Binoche in The Truth opens there Friday July 10th.
Legends of French cinema Catherine Deneuve and Juliette Binoche join masterful filmmaker Hirokazu Koreeda to paint a moving portrait of family dynamics in The Truth. Fabienne (Catherine Deneuve) is an aging French movie star who, despite her momentary lapses in memory, remains a venerable force to be reckoned with. Upon the publication of her memoirs, her daughter Lumir (Juliette Binoche) returns to Paris from New York with her husband (Ethan Hawke) and their young daughter to commemorate its release. A sharp and funny battle of wits ensues between the mother-daughter duo, as Lumir takes issue with Fabienne’s rose-colored version of the past. Reflected cleverly by Fabienne’s latest role in a sci-fi drama, their strained relationship takes a poignant journey toward possible reconciliation.

Though long embraced by parents as family-friendly safe zones, Disney’s live action films were just as often called out for their squeaky clean posturing and regressive world views.
Fair enough – but as Noah Cross growled, “Politicians, ugly buildings and whores all get respectable if they last long enough” – and a good number of those mild-mannered entertainments, while not exactly ready for the arthouse, are at least worthy of a second look.
Disney Movie Club has released some of those Baby Boomer perennials in sterling Blu ray transfers – unfortunately available to club members only. Here’s part one in a rundown of the more tantalizing items.
Treasure Island, Davy Crockett,
Old Yeller, Pollyanna

As a tribute to the late Maureen O’Hara, Laemmle's Royal Theatre in Los Angeles will screen Republic's "Rio Grande," the final chapter in director John Ford’s Cavalry trilogy (after Rko's "Fort Apache" and "She Wore A Yellow Ribbon"), on January 12 at 7 pm. While it looks like a Western, complete with Apache attacks, "Rio Grande" is also a delicately acted intimate family drama, as estranged husband and wife Lt. Col. Kirby Yorke (Wayne) and Kathleen Yorke (O'Hara) reunite on the Texas frontier (Ford shot in Monument Valley), where the mother pursues her son Jeff Yorke (Claude Jarman, Jr.) after he signs up to prove himself as a soldier in the cavalry battalion led by his father. Read More: Maureen O'Hara and the Road to the Academy Governors Awards While Ford wanted to make "The Quiet Man" with Wayne, Republic insisted that he first deliver the presumably more commercial "Rio Grande,...
