Running for almost a decade, Grant Gustin’s tenure as The Flash came to a close with Season 9 a year ago. The series finale saw Eddie’s resurrection and transformation into Cobalt Blue, who later reconciled with Barry to save the timeline. However, they don’t exactly part ways as friends. The show ends with Nora’s birth and Barry passing on the mantle to new speedsters.

However, showrunner Eric Wallace had envisioned a different path for the series finale, extending to Season 10 and taking its episode count to 200 before the network decided to conclude the series after nine seasons. Wallace’s plan for the finale included a proposed Blackest Night crossover, promising an ambitious storyline that could rival even Zack Snyder’s twisted take on DC superheroes.

The CW has spawned a number of DC shows in the past few decades, and The Flash stands among the best of them. Running for nine seasons, the TV show chronicled the journey of the Scarlet Speedster, while also having crossovers and making cameos in other DC shows. However, there were times when The Flash was incredibly close to finishing its run, before it was stretched to 9 seasons.
A still from The Flash
The Flash was originally supposed to end after Season 8, but thanks to fan support and CW execs, the series was given another chance to conclude its story properly.

One of the smartest things that the producers of the Grant Gustin-led The Flash on The CW did was bring on Og Flash John Wesley Shipp, who played the Scarlet Speedster in the 1990-91 series on CBS. Shipp, a two-time Daytime Emmy-winner for his roles on As the World Turns and Santa Barbara, was tapped to not only play Barry’s dad Henry Allen but later, Jay Garrick (the Flash of Earth-3) and also his Barry Allen (from Earth-90). TV Insider sat down with Shipp to get his thoughts on what it meant to him both professionally and personally to play such integral roles on the revived series, which came to an end last month after nine seasons. What was his favorite Barry/Henry scenes? Read on to get the scoop! What did you think of The Flash series finale? John Wesley Shipp: I really appreciated the...

After nine years, The Flash has finally come to an end. The series finale of the Arrowverse show aired on The CW last night, and as with most finales, there were plenty of blasts from the past. However, there was one former member of Team Flash who was absent from The Flash series finale — Carlos Valdes.
Carlos Valdes played Cisco Ramon in the first seven seasons of The Flash before he exited the series. The actor told Entertainment Weekly that although he wanted to return for the finale, it just didn’t work out. “I did consider it,” Valdes said. “Honestly, there was no way to make it happen with regards to my schedule and just all the different creative ventures and life circumstances that I was trying to juggle at that time.” Valdes continued, “I couldn’t really make it work, which was really heartbreaking to me because I thought,...

Had The Flash kept “Run, Barry, Run!”-ing for one more season, fans of the (extended) Arrowverse might have laid witness to one last, multi-show crossover event.
Showrunner Eric Wallace shared with EW (ahead of the strike) that at one point, “I originally had a two-year plan involving Seasons 9 and 10.” And somewhere in there would have been a crossover event stemming from a live-action adaptation of “The Blackest Night,” a comic book storyline involving Nekron, Lord of the Unliving, and the death-fueled Black Lantern Corps.

The Flash will end its nine-season run on The CW on Wednesday night, and writing the superhero series finale was a big task for showrunner Eric Wallace. Before writing the final episode, he sat down and watched several series finales from other shows and took some inspiration from three of them – Lost, Angel, and The Office.
Starring Grant Gustin (above), Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Danielle Nicolet, Kayla Compton, Brandon McKnight, and Jon Cor, the series follows the fastest man alive and his team of superheroes as they key the planet safe from metahumans who use their powers to hurt others.

Barry enlisted the help of an old friend to save the day on Wednesday’s episode of The Flash.
The episode starts out on a positive note when Team Flash throws a surprise birthday party for Barry, but things go terribly awry when Ramsey Rosso crashes the festivities. After Ramsey renders the rest of Team Flash incapacitated, Barry thinks he’s alone in the fight.

Are you ready for the last-ever Arrowverse team-up?
The CW has dropped a trailer for The Flash Season 9 Episode 9, which brings several fan favorites back to Central City one last time.
The highly-anticipated episode brings Stephen Amell back into the mix as Oliver Queen, aka Green Arrow.
It's a big deal because Oliver died at the end of Arrow.
So, how is all of this possible, you ask?
The multiverse remains a big problem for the characters on The Flash Season 9, so we're probably seeing another Earth's iteration of Oliver.
Then again, this universe tends to throw big curveballs at viewers, so we should probably wait until the episode airs on April 26 to speculate.
The special episode also includes David Ramsey, Keiynan Lonsdale (Wally West/Kid Flash), and Sendhil Ramamurthy (Ramsey Rosso/Bloodwork).

The following contains The Flash spoilers
The Flash Season 9 Episode 7
Although we’re well into The Flash’s final season, the show appears to be taking a breather before gearing up for its last run (pun absolutely intended) with a handful of what showrunner Eric Wallace likes to call “interludes,” quieter installments that tend to focus on smaller stories or highlight the show’s supporting characters. “Wildest Dreams” isn’t an hour that necessarily moves the plot of the season forward all that much—though it does touch once again on Iris’ emotional discomfort with the idea of her future being a set path that doesn’t allow her to make her own choices—but it’s a great example of the deft interconnectivity that has always been a hallmark of The CW’s Arrowverse.

The Flash Season 9 Episode 5
As the final season of The Flash barrels toward its endgame, the stakes keep getting higher. “The Mask of the Red Death, Pt. 2” not only sees Barry and Team Flash finally bring the villainous Red Death to justice, but also reveals Iris is pregnant, sees Chester and Allegra finally admit that they’re crazy about one another, and features Khione displaying some sort of strange new healing abilities that save a badly injured Mark Blaine. While these are all the sort of big narrative events that the show normally saves for a season finale, it’s the surprise return of Batwoman heroine Ryan Wilder that likely packs the biggest emotional punch.
With much of The CW Arrowverse wrapping up alongside The Flash’s final season, the fact that the show is managing to include characters from across this superhero universe is incredibly satisfying.

The Flash Season 9 Episode 1
The end of an era is upon us. After nine seasons, over 170 episodes and what feels like an endless assortment of speedsters, rogues, and various other metahumans, The Flash will end at the conclusion of its ninth season. And while the show is, thankfully, at least getting the chance to go out on its own terms, it’s still hard not to grieve its loss—particularly when both the genre and network it helped establish are in such a state of severe flux.
On the plus side, the season 9 premiere “Wednesday Ever After” is one of the series’ best episodes in ages, an hour that fully embraces the bright tone, genuine humor, and huge heart that have always been so key to this show’s identity. Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from the Season 9 premiere of The Flash on The CW.
The Flash is nearly done fighting crime in Central City — but not before one final villain comes to town.
The CW series’ ninth and final season kicked off Wednesday night with the introduction of some new hurdles for Barry Allen and Team Flash to overcome. The episode begins with Barry and Iris (Candice Patton) getting stuck in a time loop, which exacerbates some of their fears about the passing of time and the lack of control they have over what may or may not happen to them. In order to get out of it, the couple must decide to take on life head on, together — rather than avoiding the problem and each other.
But just when things seem to be settling down again, Barry is faced with yet another bump in the road. Viewers will remember that,...

The Flash Season 9 Episode 1
While The Flash Season 9 premiere was a light-hearted romp of the sort that we haven’t seen on this show in some time, the kick-off to the series’ final run of episodes included more than a few tantalizing hints of what’s to come in the weeks ahead, from new villains to a strange new being—who definitely isn’t Frost—that seems to suddenly be inhabiting the body Caitlin Snow’s body as a result of her trip into her homemade cryochamber.
Although “Wednesday Ever After” introduces former The 100 star Richard Harmon as a new, post-Crisis on Infinite Earths version of Owen Mercer (a.k.a.
Captain Boomerang), the episode’s final moments reveal that he’s not working alone and that his literal partner in crime is someone who looks much more familiar—but is likely a whole lot more dangerous.

And just like that, we have our first look at a superhero team-up on the final season of The Flash.
David Ramsey (who plays Diggle) took to social media to share a photo from behind the scenes of The Flash Season 9 Episode 9, airing later this year.
Specifically, the episode finds The Flash teaming up with Spartan, Green Arrow, and Kid Flash to fight a villain as the series prepares for its endgame.
News of Amell's return broke to much fanfare earlier this year.
The episode marks his first time back in the Arrowverse since the series finale of Arrow in 2020, the show that started this superhero universe.
