Chicago – Chicago is acknowledged as one of the great comedy cities in the world mostly for The Second City influence. However like other cities, there is an ebb and flow regarding stand-up comedy, and during the late 1980s/early 1990s there was a stand-up boom in the Windy City, chronicled in the film “Out of the Loop.” Producer Scott Perlman provides the context behind the documentary, now available for free on Plex and Tubi, and for download on various platforms.

The truth, in this case, set several comics free and emphasized the lost legend of the late Bernie Mac. Featuring well know and lesser known...

Sleepy Hollow, Season 1, Episode 10: “The Golem”
Written by Alex Kurtzman, Mark Goffman, and Jose Molina
Directed by J. Miller Tobin
Airs Monday at 9pm Et on Fox
Even though there aren’t that many, Sleepy Hollow cares about developing its character’s emotional lives. “The Golem” does an especially good job of this because the episode’s monster is directly connected to Ichabod’s (Tom Mison) emotional state considering his long lost son. The writers also use guest star John Noble, who plays Henry Parrish the Sin Eater, to great effect and uses his character to comment on the role of fate and prophecy in the series. Also, with his ability to sense sins, he has a good handle on the characters’ feelings. But Noble doesn’t overshadow the lead actors or plot as loose ends are tied up, and the writers delve into Ichabod’s pain and Abbie...

Sleepy Hollow Episode 110
“The Golem”
Teleplay By: Mark Goffman & Jose Molina
Story By: Alex Kurtzman
Directed By: J. Miller Tobin
Original Airdate: 9 December 2013
In This Episode...
Ichabod is in a bad mood over discovering he has a son. Not content with that knowledge, he calls Henry Parrish to help him “reach across realms” and speak with Katrina. Henry must get Ichabod “close to death” so he strangles Ichabod into unconsciousness.
In purgatory, Katrina is shocked to see Ichabod. She finally admits that she didn’t know about the baby before she entombed Ichabod, and didn’t tell him when she came to him in dreams because she had “precious little time” to tell him the apocalypse stuff. (She always has “precious little time.” Katrina, you’re dead - where do you need to be?) Anyway, after she entombed Ichabod, she went to Europe to find out how to undo her own spell.

This season of Revenge has been as rocky as the dark seas by the Hamptons, but the second season finale, “Truth, Part 1” and “Truth, Part 2”, is an incredibly powerful, often emotional episode that proves to be a game changer in many ways.
Until the explosion that rocks Grayson Global at the end of the first hour it’s slow, mostly set up for a nonstop and engaging second half. Alphas Review, Season 2, Episode 10, “Life after Death”
Written by Eric Tuchman
Directed by J. Miller Tobin
Airs Mondays at 8pm (Et) on SyFy
Last week’s high-flying episode of Alphas was the highlight of the season and showed the remarkable potential for this series. It ended with the tragic death of Rosen’s daughter Dani, who also was romantically involved with Cameron. Stanton Parish set off the bomb that killed her, yet both guys blame themselves for her death. Watching Rosen struggle to choose a casket is a torturous moment and played just right by David Strathairn. He utters few words in this episode and reveals so much with his face. He slowly walks through Dani’s apartment and tries to comprehend that his daughter is gone. On the other hand, Cameron seethes with anger towards Rosen, Parish, and himself. When they come together in the end, it’s their...

The Vampire Diaries Review, Season 3, Episode 18: “The Murder of One”
Written by Caroline Dries
Directed by J. Miller Tobin
Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on the CW
This week, on The Vampire Diaries: Rebekah has fun with Damon, Ric gets his Hyde on, and Finn and Bonnie have really bad days
With only four episodes left until the season finale, The Vampire Diaries has kicked into gear. Klaus has been a major villain for over a year now and the Salvatores have been trying to kill him for most of that time. The writers have managed any number of plausible delaying tactics for them, but eventually, Stefan and Damon have to either succeed in killing, or at least (semi-)permanently restraining, him or stop trying to do so. Otherwise, their increasingly repetitive vows of vengeance against him will turn from emotionally resonant to pathetic.

We have 19 new photos from The Vampire Diaries March closer, “Murder for One.”
The photos have a few Spoilers in them regarding character returns so if you haven’t already caught the spoiler, turn away.
It looks like the war between the Originals and the Mystic Falls’ vampires will be heating up by the end of March. This photo below shows Elena arming herself with a massive crossbow; its reminiscent of the scene when Tyler and Jeremy were practicing with the crossbow. It was also the beginning of the end for Jeremy’s character. After using the crossbow on a hybrid that was attacking Elena, a fearless Jeremy chopped off the hybrid’s head. Later on, Elena had Jeremy mind wiped and sent away.
We also have some interesting photos of Damon and Rebekah. Their strictly sexual relationship has turned into an S&M case as pictured below. In truth,...

Revenge Review, Season 1, Episode 10: “Loyalty”
Written by Wendy Calhoun & Nikki Toscano
Directed by J. Miller Tobin
Clea Major: Okay, I’m now willing to forgive the comparative lack of violence we’ve seen lately from Revenge, because while no one’s life got per se ruined in this last episode, there were laptops thrown into swimming pools, secrets got exposed, and Emily Van Camp at least got to rough up her mentor in a classic Karate training sequence. Not to mention that the next episode promises to bring the Tyler plotline to a head in a fantastically dramatic–and Klonozopam-induced, apparently!–fashion.
Louis Godfrey: In our last entry I joked about the possibility of a karate training sequence, and then this episode turns around and gives us one! It is like this show has a pipeline right into the collective id. I love it!

Gather around friends. I would like to tell you a story (technically, this is Rebecca's story, as told to Elena). A story about the original vampires. Where they came from, how they can be killed, and who Michael is. Michael is the patriarch of the clan, a humorless authoritarian who had no patience for Klaus. He and wife Esther left Europe over a thousand years ago (as humans) for fear of a plague. A witch, Ayana, told Esther about "The New...

Halloween falls on a Monday this year, which means the holiday episodes of most TV shows are airing the week before, including those on The CW, but that doesn't mean genre fans don't have more to look forward to, as evidenced by the just released synopses of "The Vampire Diaries" Episode 3.08, "Ordinary People", and "The Secret Circle" Episode 1.08, "Beneath", both airing on November 3rd. "Supernatural" Episode 7.07, "The Mentalists", which bows November 4th, isn't sounding too shabby either.

The CW is keeping a very tight lid on stills so as not to spoil the Season 2 finale of The Vampire Diaries. However, they have provided these five stills as well as a synopsis. Nothing, is overwhelmingly new. [Possible Spoilers] It seems that the “Klaus” episode this week will be mostly filler and back story. However, it will serve as a springboard to reignite the rivalry between Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) over Elena (Nina Dobrev).
It appears that Alaric will regain his body since Joseph Morgan will guest-star as Klaus. There’s nothing much mentioned about Bonnie in this episode. However, the CW has also released some stills that we’ll be posting soon for episode 2.21, “The Sun Also Rises,” which focus more on Bonnie (Katerina Graham) and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen).
Tyler will be returning to town. However, it’s unclear whether Salvatore’s band of Klaus haters...
