Tony Curtis grew up idolizing the suave and funny Cary Grant, emulated his romantic moves as an actor and then performed a brilliant impersonation of Grant for Billy Wilder. The next step had to be co-starring with the great man himself. Blake Edwards’ amiable, relaxed submarine movie allows Grant to play with ladies’ under-things, while Curtis wrestles with a pig.

'The Pink Panther' with Peter Sellers: Blake Edwards' 1963 comedy hit and its many sequels revolve around one of the most iconic film characters of the 20th century: clueless, thick-accented Inspector Clouseau – in some quarters surely deemed politically incorrect, or 'insensitive,' despite the lack of brown face make-up à la Sellers' clueless Indian guest in Edwards' 'The Party.' 'The Pink Panther' movies [1] There were a total of eight big-screen Pink Panther movies co-written and directed by Blake Edwards, most of them starring Peter Sellers – even after his death in 1980. Edwards was also one of the producers of every (direct) Pink Panther sequel, from A Shot in the Dark to Curse of the Pink Panther. Despite its iconic lead character, the last three movies in the Pink Panther franchise were box office bombs. Two of these, The Trail of the Pink Panther and Curse of the Pink Panther, were co-written by Edwards' son,...

Stuart A. Staples has been making music as part of Tindersticks for 25 years. The band, in a couple different incarnations, has created not only its own records, but six scores for films by Claire Denis, with a seventh to be written for the director later this year for her upcoming “High Life.” The latest proper Tindersticks LP, "The Waiting Room", acts in a way as a bridge between the band’s music and the world of cinema. The record is accompanied by a set of 11 short films, one for each song, from filmmakers including Denis, Christoph Girardet, Pierre Vinour, Rosie Pedlow and Joe King, Gregorio Graziosi, Richard Dumas and Gabriel Sanna. Read More: New Plot Details Emerge For Claire Denis' Sci-Fi 'High Life' With Robert Pattinson As Staples explained by phone as he works with the band to prepare a spring European tour, the short films accompanying...

If you’ve listened to a lot of Tindersticks — or seen almost any Claire Denis movie — you might agree that few contemporary bands so deserve a visual album. Marked by enigmatic lyrics, opulent production, and weighty arrangements, their songs create vivid images of longing, pain, and atmosphere — like a series of unrequited romances playing out inside the most densely populated and well-lit French café. Needless to say, their new album, The Waiting Room, caught my attention for taking just that approach.
Ahead of an official release on January 22, Tindersticks have debuted their album and full, 51-minute video project on NPR. Several international artists (including Denis and frontman Stuart A. Staples) have directing credits, each operating under the rule that their works “should attempt not to describe the music, but to create a visual counter-point, a space for the music to inhabit.” What emerges — contrary to the way I often envision...

It’s that time of year when electronic music industry-leading download platform Beatport announces its Best of Beatport frontrunners. While last week saw a peculiar dichotomy in the Top Selling Tracks category, this week they’ve revealed the leading breakthrough artists and labels of 2015.
As far as breakout artists are concerned, Curbi, Joe Stone, Marshmello, Alison Wonderland and Ephwurd topped the list with the labels Owsla and Spinnin’ both seeing the most representation. In the category of breakout labels, Don Diablo’s Hexagon imprint claimed first place with Magic Trooper, Darklight Recordings, Playbox and Heldeep Recordings following.
As we’ve mentioned before, Beatport downloads do not necessarily reflect the overall popularity of an artist or label. Most music fans discover new music from streaming services like SoundCloud or Spotify, and as far as electronic music is concerned, the market for live events still towers over the whole of the recording...

For cinephiles, English band Tindersticks are perhaps best known for the soundtracks they've composed for the films of Claire Denis, while music fans have been taken by the group's distinctive arrangements and intimate emotion. Next year, Tindersticks will release their tenth album, The Waiting Room, and it finds them taking another ambitious step. The upcoming long player will not only feature guest appearances by Jehnny Beth of Savages and the late, beloved singer Lhasa De Sela, it will also find the band collaborating with filmmakers. Each track on The Waiting Room will be accompanied by a music video helmed by such figures as Christoph Girardet, Pierre Vinour, Claire Denis, Gregorio Graziosi, and Gabriel Sanna. And today, we're excited to unveil "Hey Lucinda," featuring the vocals of Lhasa De Sela, and directed Rosie Pedlow and Joe King. The beautiful video finds the camera lingering down a row of shops and storefronts,...

Making their union official, Candice Accola and Joe King held their wonderful wedding over the weekend in New Orleans.
According to People The Fray guitarist and the “Vampire Diaries” dame rented out the Montegut House and celebrated their love with a French Quarter-themed ceremony and reception.
Ms. Accola enlisted Monique Lhullier for her gown while King relied on Tom Ford for his dapper tuxedo.
Among those on the guest list were stars like Kayla Ewell, Nina Dobrev, Michael Trevino, Kat Graham, Claire Holt and Paul Wesley.
And apparently Ms. Dobrev was the one who made the initial connection between Candice and Joe following a Super Bowl event. Accola previously shared, “I was too chicken to give him my number, so Nina did.”

Vampires burn in the sunlight, but Candice Accola just plays one on TV, so she's free to delightfully soak up the sun's rays. And that's exactly what the Vampire Diaries star is doing on the beaches of Maui while vacationing in Hawaii. Season five of the hit series recently wrapped, and the 26-year-old actress decided the best way to unwind was to travel to paradise with her fiancé, The Fray's Joe King, for a relaxing vacay. Strutting and kicking up sand during her time off, the blond beauty accessorized her multicolored two-piece swimsuit with a straw fedora and stylish shades. She later donned that same look to luxuriate in a sparkling infinity pool with a pineapple beverage...

From vampires to bar brawls, Candice Accola does it all.
"The Vampire Diaries" blonde vamp stars in The Fray's new music video for "Love Don't Die." While watching Accola strut into a honky tonk bar to watch the band perform looks natural, it's because it pretty much is natural: she's engaged the The Fray's guitarist, Joe King.
All Accola wants to do is watch her fiancé play with her best friends, but when a bar-goer gets a little too handsy, things take a turn for the violent. But hey, it gives her fiancé the chance to play hero.

Have you ever seen one of those commercials for genealogy web sites and said to yourself, "Man, I really need to get on that"? Well, chances are you never will, but luckily artist Joe Stone has got you covered if you were interested in visually piecing together all the interrelationships between the characters in Star Wars. Yup, dude's got it all taken care of.
Categorizing the relationships by "Offspring," "Romance," "Significant Battle," "Apprentice/Master," "Friendship," or "Other," Stone meticulously details just what goes on between your favorite (and, sure, forgotten) characters, including Amidala, C3-po, and — oh yes — Jar Jar Binks.
Stone writes on his web site, "Limiting the characters purely to the film and canonical TV series'...I went about creating a minimalist icon for each major character before laying them out with lines highlighting their various relationships to one another, whether that be romance, a significant battle or otherwise.

U.K.-based graphic designer Joe Stone created this all-encompassing Star Wars Family Tree that definitely comes off as cluttered and confusing, but there's a method to Stone's madness, with each line representing a different kind of Star Wars relationship, be it a friendship, romance, offspring, etc. You can use the guide in the upper right-hand corner to help as you browse through characters that seem to come from both film franchises, as well as The Clone...

The Fray have responded to criticism of their televised rendition of the Us National Anthem. The group, who performed an acoustic version of 'The Star-Spangled Banner' at the Ncaa championship game last night, have since said that they knew it would receive a mixed reaction. Guitarist Dave Welsh tweeted: "Upon thinking about it, doing the National Anthem is a bit like choosing between Jif and Skippy. You just can't please everyone." On comments that his guitar playing was out of synch with the music, Joe King admitted: "I'm going to ride home on the Ku bus (more)...

What did Anne Hathaway have to say about the legacy of Catwoman? Which Doctor Who star dressed up as Batman this week in Hollywood? What superhero is a former Congressman using to attack his political rivals? Marvel is bringing two stars to San Diego Comic Con this year, who are they? And is Ghost Rider really becoming a girl? Read about that all and more in today's Superhero Bits. Anne Hathaway, aka, Selina Kyle in The Dark Knight Rises, spoke to a Swedish website [1] - briefly - about playing the role. Here's one of her quotes about playing a role that so many others have played before her: It makes you work harder, I take a chance not that something may work. But there is a certain satisfaction in that, towards the end of the day did everything. [2] X-Men Family Tree artist Joe Stone [3] (via io9 [4]) has created a visual...

Over the last few months, graphic designer Joe Stone [1] has released a couple handy infographics showing the many relationships (married, dated, offspring, clone, nemesis...etc) between the characters in the X-Men comic books [2] and the Fantastic Four universe [3]. This weekend he released [4] a third in his continuing comic book family tree infographic series, this one focusing on the relationships in The Avengers. See it now after the jump. If you've ever been confused about the character relationships within Marvel's X-Men comics timeline, you may now have some much needed help.
To help promote his comic book shop, UK-based graphic designer Joe Stone has created an X-Men Family Tree to help navigate who's related to who, who's romantically linked to each other, and sets of prominent arch-nemesis.
Check out the image here at right (click for larger, full view).
I have at least a decade of dedicated X-Men comic book story reading under my belt and even I didn't recognize all the character ties, which is why Stone probably added the text at the bottom that reads, "Confused? Read more comics."
Can't go wrong with advice like that [...]...

This was created by Joe Stone. I think it's pretty awesome, and would make a great poster. Can you name all of the characters? There are a few he left out. As well as a couple of Savage land sprogs for Colossus and Wolverine! But I guess he had to stop somewhere. Can you spot any other significant exclusions of either characters or relationships?
