Sarah digs into the post-Angel careers of David Boreanaz, Alexis Denisof, Amy Acker, Charisma Carpenter and more...
It’s been about a decade since the last episode of Angel, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off series about the vampire with a soul, aired. The final episode of season five, Not Fade Away, first appeared on Us television screens on 19 May 2004. That seems simultaneously like a very long time ago, and not very long ago at all, because time is vast and human brains are small and fallible, but it’s safe to say that in TV years, it’s a pretty long goddamned time.
The men and women behind the characters we used to spend one night a week with have gone on to other things – some bigger and better, others kind of rubbish – and unless you’re a particularly obsessive superfan, you...

With a sky-high divorce rate the norm — 50 percent of first-time marrieds divorce — the words “until death do us part” seem to have almost no meaning. These days, “forever” tends to feel more like “until something shiny catches my eye.”
Which makes “Last Night” a refreshing film to see on the big screen. This look at adult relationships includes zero car chases, explosions, superheroes or vomit jokes (though there is a lot of drinking). In other words, it’s a film for grown-ups.
Joanna (Keira Knightley) and Michael Reed (Sam Worthington) live and work in New York and have been married for three years, though their relationship is about seven years old. (Why a Brit and an Aussie are living in Gotham is never explained.

Fresh "Last Night" clip is now available online. In the one-minute video, Keira Knightley's Joanna has a dinner with Griffin Dunne's Truman in a local restaurant, where she is pressed with questions about her personal life and her husband.
The drama movie centers on Knightley's Joanna and Sam Worthington's Michael Reed. After attending one of Michael's business parties, Joanna notices a curious moment between him and his co-worker Laura, who is portrayed by Eva Mendes. The happily married couple then is tempted to stray as Michael goes on a business trip with Laura while Joanna encounters her past love, played by Guillaume Canet, at home.
Massy Tadjedin serves behind the lens and writes the scripts for the film. Meanwhile, Stephanie Romanov, Scott Adsit, and Daniel Eric Gold are among other actors supporting the movie. "Last Night" will have limited release in the U.S. on May 6.

Today's Challenge: Can you link Katie Holmes, who plays Jacqueline Kennedy in the highly anticipated movie event The Kennedys (premiering Sunday, April 3 on ReelzChannel), to Stephanie Romanov, who played the First Lady in Thirteen Days?
Our first Facebook movie game, ClusterFlick, plays off that old "six degrees of separation" theory — you know, the one that has a certain Kevin at the center of the Hollywood universe. It's easy to play, but not so easy to win. The goal is to use the major cast of movies to get from Point A to Point B in the smallest number of moves.

A few months ago our own Karen Divorty was fortunate enough to see this new indie romance drama starring Keira Knightley and Sam Worthington called by Last Night as, “Soulful and sophisticated, Keira Knightley in the Best Performance of her Career.” The story follows a married couple, apart for a night while the husband takes a business trip with a colleague to whom he’s attracted. While he’s resisting temptation, his wife encounters her past love. Now Awards Daily has the first trailer for the film post Tiff. The trailer is not of great quality, so I hope that the studio behind this releases something a bit better quality that we can post. Check out our review here from the film, as it showed at Tiff. The film has a Us distributor, Miramax, but no Us release date as far as we know, but has been released in Italy...

Sam Worthington made another stop at 2010 Toronto International Film Festival on September 18. After promoting "The Debt" on September 14, the Aussie star came to represent "Last Night" at the film's premiere which was held during the weekend at Roy Thompson Hall.
The lead actor, who came in a black and white outfit, was accompanied by girlfriend Natalie Mark at the special screening. After taking pictures with fans who had waited for him at the venue, he greeted co-star Eva Mendes who looked stunning in her black sweep train gown.
While Worthington's on-screen wife Keira Knightley was not seen among the attendees at the Saturday event, another actress Stephanie Romanov hit the red carpet that evening. Producers Nick Wechsler and Christophe Riandee also came in support of the premiere.

Lust and adultery is an addiction of the Silver Screen, yet in Last Night it somewhat bypasses its fantasy to become relatable and affecting in this evocative and remarkable film. With Keira Knightley in (dare I say) the best performance of her career as the lively and multifaceted Joanne, she loves her husband Michael (Sam Worthington) and mingles with an old flame Alex (Guillaume Canet).
Her performance is an inspiration and a stepping stone for the actress that’s been hiding her talents in mostly period dramas. At a party she sees Michael’s attraction to his beautiful co-worker Laura (Eva Mendes) and suspects that he is having an affair. The seeds of doubt are in her mind now, but while Michael is on a business trip, she runs into Alex and is quickly distracted.
Joanne and Michael are a quintessential and beautiful couple; their love is perfectly exhibited in the opening of the film.

Having recently received its world premiere at the inaugural Hollywood Film Festival, "Cadillac" is a good-looking, sensitively directed drama that ultimately can't transcend its stagy, talky script.
In his sophomore effort, young filmmaker Andrew Frank ("Friends & Enemies") brings an assured, refined touch to the portrait of three old high school buddies who have finally hit a crossroads in their shared state of prolonged adolescence.
Now in their mid-30s, the obnoxious Todd (Taylor Nichols), a successful commercial realtor, and Michael (Daniel Roebuck), a nice-guy employee for a computer-software firm, would appear to lead normal lives.
But they have a constant reminder of a serious screw-up in the person of Jimmy (Lenny Von Dohlen), a piece of damaged goods who holes himself up in Todd's garage obsessively trying to resuscitate his 1970 Cadillac and desperately clinging to long-gone ideals.
It turns out Jimmy spent a year in a psychiatric hospital following a very bad acid trip at the hands of his two buddies. The subsequent years of pent-up, unspoken guilt have taken their toll on the trio and are about to be confronted in one big, soul-cleansing blowout.
Frank's cast -- also including Stephanie Romanov as Todd's harassed fiancee, Kathy; Traci Lind as Jimmy's disastrous blind date, Missy; and Annabelle Gurwitch as Michael's friend, Renee -- delivers earnest, committed performances, though Von Dohlen's wounded-rabbit interpretation borders perilously on parody.
Not that he's fully to blame, given Bruce McIntosh's overwritten, dramatically static script that fails to deliver satisfactorily on its deep, dark secret of a buildup. It's too bad, because Frank manages to put a lot of polish on an obviously modest budget. He's handsomely assisted in that accomplishment by DP Maximo Munzi and composer Alan Williams, not to mention enough nostalgic hits from the '70s and '80s to fill a soundtrack album.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- "Menno's Mind" is a B-grade sci-fi effort that should please undiscriminating fans of the genre and will make a perfectly respectable entry in Showtime's series of sci-fi films. For some reason, it was deemed worthy of inclusion in the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, where it recently had its world premiere.
The film boasts a respectable cast, starting with Bill Campbell ("The Rocketeer") as Menno, a computer technician who helps people experience virtual-reality fantasies (a "V-chip override" is required for the more racy ones). He and his co-worker (Michael Dorn of "Star Trek: The Next Generation") are oblivious to the rebel underground that is battling the corrupt government, including power-mad presidential candidate Felix Mendina (Corbin Bernsen), who plans to infiltrate the country's computer system to alter the population's minds.
When rebel leader Dourif (Bruce Campbell, "Army of Darkness") is killed, his brain is downloaded into Menno, who suddenly finds himself swept into the struggle. Fortunately, his new partner is the beautiful Loria (Stephanie Romanov), who, like the villainess in the last Bond flick, is capable of producing lethal damage with her well-toned thighs.
Director Jon Kroll is unable to establish a sustained tone for Mark Valenti's scattershot screenplay, with the result being that "Menno's Mind" skitters nervously among fantasy, camp and hard-edged action. Although the film has a stylish visual design and does deliver decent effects on what was presumably a very low budget, that doesn't compensate for the often stiff performances and poorly directed action sequences.
Although Campbell makes for a bland hero, Bernsen provides some laughs with his entertaining and scenery-chewing performance.
