In the "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" episode "Under the Cloak of War", a Klingon ambassador named Dak'Rah (Robert Wisdom) comes to visit the U.S.S. Enterprise on a diplomatic mission. "Strange New Worlds" takes place immediately after the Klingon War, and several of the ship's crew remember the conflict vividly, expressing prejudice and consternation to see a Klingon on board. Captain Pike (Anson Mount) reminds his officers to keep an open mind, but Dr. M'Benga (Babs Olusanmokun) cannot.
Through flashbacks, audiences learn the horrible wartime conditions that both Dr. M'Benga and Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush) served under, and they were bleak. There weren't enough medical supplies to go around, and Dr. M'Benga had taken to storing injured soldiers inside a transporter pattern buffer, hoping to rematerialize them when more could be done. He also secretly develops a rare and dangerous steroid called Protocol 12 which temporarily increases strength and...

A couple beloved “Star Trek” shows are living ever longer and prospering on Paramount+. The streamer has renewed “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” for Season 4 — even though Season 3 hasn’t even aired yet. That’s how well received the first two seasons of the “Original Series” prequel starring Anson Mount as Capt. Christopher Pike have been. The series has taken big swings in episodic storytelling, such as Season 2’s musical episode, “Subspace Rhapsody.”
“On behalf of the cast and crew of ‘Strange New Worlds’ we are thrilled and grateful to continue our voyages together,” said showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers, plus franchise overlord Alex Kurtzman, in a joint statement. “We can’t wait for you to join us and the crew of the Enterprise on another season of exploration and adventure.”

Paramount+ has made two big decisions about its Star Trek universe.
Strange New Worlds has been renewed for a fourth season, while Lower Decks will end with its previously announced upcoming fifth season, expected to air sometime this year.
Lower Decks creator Mike McMahan and executive producer Alex Kurtzman posted a statement on the Star Trek website about the decision to conclude the animated series: “While five seasons of any series these days seems like a miracle, it’s no exaggeration to say that every second we’ve spent making this show has been a dream come true. “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” currently in production on its third season, has been renewed by Paramount+ for Season 4. Meanwhile, “Star Trek: Lower Decks,” the first animated “Star Trek” comedy, will conclude its run on the streamer with its fifth season, which will debut in the fall.
“Strange New Worlds” — set in the years when Capt. Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) commanded the USS Enterprise, and featuring younger versions of several legacy characters, including Spock (Ethan Peck), Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding) and Kirk (Paul Wesley) — has been a fan favorite since it premiered on Paramount+ in 2022. Season 2 of the series, which included a musical episode and a crossover episode with “Lower Decks,” made Nielsen’s chart of the 10 most-watched streaming original series over multiple weeks.

As Star Trek is almost 60 years old, the latest series from this iconic Sci-Fi series may be the most groundbreaking since the original series.
The refreshing and entertaining storyline will please both newer fans of Star Trek and even the fans of the original Star Trek series that aired back in 1966.
The first season of Star Trek Strange New Worlds first premiered on the fifth of May 2022. It is actually a sequel to the slightly controversial Discovery series that didn't follow some of the known or established lore in the Star Trek universe.
How Does Strange New Worlds Fit Into The Star Trek Universe
The original Star Trek series takes place in 2265, while the Strange New Worlds series starts in 2259. This means the iconic Captain Kirk is not the captain of the USS Enterprise (Ncc-1701), which means the current captain will be Captain Christopher Pike.

The downside to the now-inoperative Marvel Television was that its offerings were exhaustively inconsistent in quality. Would you get a mature, nuanced examination of topics like systemic corruption, religious faith, and personal trauma like in "Daredevil"? Or would you get a clumsy mashup of "Succession"-style dynasty drama and white savior tropes like in "Iron Fist"? One could never be too sure. But while the lows were especially low, the highs also tended to be higher than the Marvel Cinematic Universe's films.
Funnily enough, that trend has only continued since Marvel Television was restructured and folded into Marvel Studios. The McU's Disney+ shows have been all over the board so far, with the added wrinkle that most of them are woven deeper into the tapestry of the franchise's greater mythology and, as such, are harder for the McU's movies to ignore -- as we saw when "The Marvels" had to...

"Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" might be considered the most lighthearted show in the vast canon of "Trek." It's a series that returned to an episodic structure, allowing its stories to conclude at the end of an hour, rather than stretching them across an entire season -- and sometimes well past their breaking point. The old-world structure has allowed the showrunners to experiment with genre in ways not previously tried on "Star Trek." One episode may be a body-swap comedy, while the next is a terse horror tale. There are a few steely, soul-crushing wartime dramas sprinkled throughout, but their headiness is leavened by lightweight time-travel stories, party-animated crossovers, and an episode in which Spock becomes a human and eats too much bacon. The most notorious "Strange New Worlds" episode is likely "Subspace Rhapsody," a full-on musical.

A Variety cover story about the future of "Star Trek" includes plenty of exciting updates about the future of the series, but it's also just a trivia treasure trove for "Trek" fans -- including the ones who work on the shows. "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" stars Anson Mount and Ethan Peck both noted how surreal their jobs are, while Mount also revealed that they get to go to work on a set named after part of a starship.
"Sometimes we call it The Holodeck," Mount told Variety when describing the massive augmented reality walls (similar to those used by Industrial Light & Magic's The Volume) that turn the set into a virtual-physical hybrid space. “Star Trek: Discovery,” the flagship series of Paramount+’s “Star Trek” universe, is heading toward its ending. The series, which premiered in 2017, will premiere its fifth and final season on April 4, closing the book on the adventures of Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and her crew.
A new season also means new challenges for any Starfleet captain, and IndieWire can exclusively share a new clip from the premiere episode that promises a big one for Burnham. On a recovery mission to secure a mysterious ship, Burnham receives information from her crew about signs of life on board. But as her supervisor Kovich coldly reminds her, her mission requires her to neutralize the potential threat “by any means necessary.”

“Between season 1 and season 5 is an entire life.” That’s a real understatement on the part of Sonequa Martin-Green in an interview with Den of Geek magazine, describing the five-season and seven-year journey of her character Michael Burnham, the protagonist of Star Trek: Discovery.
When we first met Burnham way back in 2017, she was the first officer on the USS Shenzhou, a Starfleet ship operating about a decade before the events of The Original Series, and under the command of Captain Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh). By the end of the two-part premiere, Georgiou was dead and Burnham was in prison for mutiny.
Things have certainly changed since then. We begin Discovery‘s fifth and final season with Captain Michael Burnham of the USS Discovery, but adventuring over 900 years after the events of the premiere. Yeah, it’s been a wild journey, one that incurred more than a little criticism early...

Star Trek is back. And we’re all there for it. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds marks the return of the science fiction series we’ve all grown to love over the years. Alex Kurtzman looks exactly how you’d expect someone to look at the end of a five-year-mission for Starfleet: relaxed, confident, and ready to bring the ship home. At least, that’s the impression he gives when he, showrunner Michelle Paradise, and stars Sonequa Martin-Green and David Ajala talk with Den of Geek about the upcoming fifth and final season of Star Trek: Discovery during SXSW 2024. You almost can’t tell this show has faced many trials and tribulations across its seven years on the air.

"Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness" can be best described as Sam Raimi at war with the corporate sensibilities of the MCU. On one hand, the movie is filled with fun, creative bits of Raimi-style high-effort filmmaking; there's a willingness to get spooky and mean in a way that feels fresh and unprecedented for the franchise. On the other hand, it's filled with forced moments that read so strongly as studio notes designed to pander to fans and set up future movies. Case in point: The Illuminati, a new group that includes John Krasinski's Reed Richards and Patrick Stewart's Professor X. Their inclusion is less of an organic storytelling choice and more of an advertisement for future MCU properties.
But part of what makes "MoM" so fun is that the Raimi sensibilities win out in the end. The moment Raimi wins is that scene where Wanda...

"Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" is a fantastic return to classic "Star Trek" that uses its science fiction setting to create incredible allegories about our own world. "Billy Madison" is a very silly Adam Sandler movie from the 1990s about a man-child who has to go from kindergarten through high school in six months in order to inherit his father's business and fortune. They are as different from one another as can be, yet at least one "Strange New Worlds" episode is rather deeply connected to the sophomoric yet lovable absurdity of "Billy Madison." While they don't share anything in-universe and Adam Sandler has sadly never made a "Star Trek" appearance, eagle-eyed viewers might have recognized some similar sights in the background of both the movie and the season 1 "Strange New Worlds" episode, "Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach."

The recent ad campaign for Paramount+ has been a mite surreal. In them, a group of fictional characters, each from various Paramount-owned properties, find themselves lost on Paramount Mountain -- a desolate and snowy place -- wondering how they might escape. The ads are fun, as there are few places where one might see Peppa Pig and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen interacting with Beavis and Butt-Head. Several of the spots were narrated by Patrick Stewart and, throughout the campaign, featured cameos from "Survivor" host Jeff Probst, Captain Pike from "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" as played by Anson Mount, Dora the Explorer, James Corden, Bumblebee the Transformer, Snooki, DJ Khaled, Diane Lockhart from "The Good Fight" as played by Christine Baranski, Lieutenant Jim Dangle from "Reno 911!" as played by Thomas Lennon, and many, many others. In one of the more recent ads, Sylvester Stallone appears as his...

The respectable Saturn Awards were first launched in 1973 by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films, and have been presented annually ever since.
"Star Trek: The Next Generation" has won multiple Saturns in the past, notably winning Best Genre Series twice during its initial run. Additionally, Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner won Saturns for their acting, playing Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Lieutenant Commander Data respectively. Frustratingly, no other member of the show's venerated ensemble won Saturns for their performance.

Before she was seen online dancing with knives, Britney Spears was on a bigger screen. Now, her first film role, Crossroads, is finally coming to Netflix.
The 2002 film will hit the streamer on Feb. 15. The movie hasn’t been on streaming platforms or available from digital retailers since its release.
Crossroads features Spears as “Lucy,” a character who reunites with her childhood best friends Kit (Zoë Saldana) and Mimi (Taryn Manning). A cross-country road trip ensues with Mimi’s friend Ben (Anson Mount).
The film was written by Shonda Rhimes. It returned to theaters last year for two nights in October to coincide with the release of Spears’ memoir, The Woman in Me.
Director Tamra Davis said at that time, “I recently rewatched Crossroads and was so enthralled with the time capsule of nostalgia that this incredible ensemble cast brings to the screen. Britney is absolutely breathtaking to watch, and...

In Sam Raimi's 2022 superhero film "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness," the titular wizard (Benedict Cumberbatch) was able to skip across multiple dimensions merrily, thanks to the portal-creating superpowers of one America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez). Halfway through the film, Doctor Strange finds himself in a distant dimension, standing in the courtroom of the Illuminati, a superhero team that a parallel version of himself once belonged to. The Illuminati explains to the good Doctor that his alternate self has gone mad and needs to be executed, something they find might be true of the O.G. Doctor Strange as well.
In an orgy of fan service, the Illuminati is made up of alternate Marvel characters culled from the history of Marvel media. Black Bolt (Anson Mount) is from the oft-forgotten TV series "Inhumans." There is an alternate Captain Marvel (Lashana Lynch) as she was seen in 2019's "Captain Marvel.

"Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" has brought back some classic characters from the franchise by recasting them with new actors. Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) is finally helming his own show, with Spock (Ethan Peck) and Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding) serving in his crew. Future Captain Jim Kirk (Paul Wesley) has become a recurring face, while the season 2 finale, "Hegemony," introduced a young Montgomery Scott (Martin Quinn). But if actor John Billingsley has his way, Doctor Phlox could return in "Strange New Worlds" without the need for recasting.
Billingsley played Phlox on "Star Trek: Enterprise" — he was the chief medical officer of the Nx-01, the first Starfleet spaceship named "Enterprise." A Denobulan, Phlox looked human-ish (except for the serrated ridges on the side of his head), but his alien anatomy was, well, rather alien indeed.

Production on the third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is currently underway, and one former Star Trek cast member has an idea of how they could be brought back. John Billingsley played Dr. Phlox on Star Trek: Enterprise, and although Strange New Worlds takes place a hundred years after Enterprise, he notes that nothing has been established regarding the lifespans of Denobulans.
“I was on the strike line and some of the Strange New Worlds guys were coming up and saying ‘How long do you think Denobulans live?’” Billingsley told TrekMovie. “I said ‘Long. Long, long, long. Definitely long enough to be on your show if that’s what you’re getting at.’ So who knows? I mean, I would happily come back. And I figure, hell, even if I’m dead, my son Phlox Jr. is still around, and he is the spitting image of his old pop.

After the release of Britney Spears’ tell-all memoir, The Woman in Me, Crossroads, the 2002 road trip film starring Spears, was re-released in theaters last month.
Ann Carli, the film’s producer, and director Tamra Davis, surprised an audience at The Grove AMC in Los Angeles with a Q&a that took place after a screening.
Carli stated that she remembered standing up for Spears when her team attempted to make her work 18-hour shifts each day of production.
“She was super busy,” Carli said. “One of the things that I thought was really important was that she had time to rehearse with the other actors.”
Carli mentioned that “the day before she was shooting, they had a giant Pepsi commercial. It was crazy.”
According to Carli, Spears’ team, at one point during the shoot, “wanted her to be recording at night after she did a full day’s work on the set.

If we're to accept "Star Trek" as a workplace drama -- which it may be first and foremost -- then one of the central themes of the entire franchise would be an examination of healthy managerial styles. Captain Kirk (William Shatner) was a manager who ran on instinct and preferred to have a hand in most decisions. He listened to the instincts of his crew as well, when it pertained to their fields of expertise, but listened to himself first and foremost. Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart), in contrast, was more socially cold -- he rarely socialized with his crew during off-duty hours -- but was far more egalitarian when it came to communicating with his senior staff; Picard frequently asked for suggestions from his crew when they were embroiled in a crisis, and he often took their advice (unless they were Worf).

It’s been over a year since the MCU film made it’s way into theaters and it’s safe to say that Multiverse of Madness is a mixed bag to most fans and critics. However, the most frustrating aspect of the 2022 feature is the cameo that saw the returns of Professor X (Patrick Stewart) and Black Bolt (Anson Mount). Along with a star filled cameo that includes Baron Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) Captain Marvel (Lashana Lynch), Hayley Atwell (Captain Carter), and Mr. Fantastic (John Krasinski). This was a cool moment because it presented an alternative to the future of the MCU and...

“The Marvels” are here.
The super-heroic team, consisting of Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Monica Rambeau/Photon (Teyonah Parris) and Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), join together to rid the galaxy of a villainous threat orchestrated by Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton). Also their light-based powers are hopelessly entangled so that makes it difficult to strike out on your own. Not only are they faced with stopping a powerful foe (one that has a connection to both Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel) but they also have to figure out their group dynamics, especially since every time they use their powers they switch places with one another.
But what lies beyond the movie itself? To answer that we must first issue a major spoiler warning. If you haven’t seen “The Marvels” yet, turn back now, we’re diving deep into “The Marvels” credits scene. This will be here when you get back.

Actors reacted with unbridled joy — and some healthy skepticism — to the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike after the union reached a tentative deal Wednesday with the AMPTP on the 118th day of work stoppage.
The strike officially ends at 12:01 that evening but goes to the union’s national board on Friday.
“Lost” and “The Good Doctor” actor-producer Daniel Dae Kim tweeted, “Woo hooo!!!! Let’s hope the deal is fair and we can get back to work!”
SAG-AFTRA Negotiating Committee member Frances Fisher, who told TheWrap that the only times she wasn’t on the picket lines was when she was meeting with the studios, tweeted a photo of herself holding out her arms in triumph in front of the SAG building on Wilshire Blvd.

Crossroads has been getting a lot of attention lately following the release of Britney Spears’ memoir titled The Woman in Me.
The film’s director Tamra Davis recently did an interview where she talked about the potential of a sequel, which she says there have been conversations about following up with the 2002 movie.
“I’m currently working with Van Toffler, who was the producer on it, and he’s [mentioned it],” Davis told EW in an interview. “I think he’s been talking to Britney about it, with her management. Britney, I don’t think she really wants to act so much, but I know Ann [Carli] spoke to Shonda [Rhimes] about something, and Shonda had an idea, so who knows if that will have life.”
Before Grey’s Anatomy, Rhimes wrote the script for the film that also starred Anson Mount, Zoe Saldana, Taryn Manning, Kim Cattrall and Dan Aykroyd. In the event that a sequel happens,...

Britney Spears is talking about the acting technique she used to film Crossroads which left her confused and not wanting to take on more acting roles.
“The experience wasn’t easy for me. My problem wasn’t with anyone involved in the production but with what acting did to my mind,” Spears said in an excerpt from her memoir The Woman in Me shared by People. “I think I started Method acting — only I didn’t know how to break out of my character. Trekkies of all stripes know that there's only one main quality that an actor needs when portraying one of the franchise's venerated captains: They need to bring their own unique flavor altogether. It'd be an impossibly tough task for anyone to try and fill the shoes of the titans who've come before, from William Shatner's James T. Kirk to Patrick Stewart's Jean-Luc Picard to Avery Brooks' Benjamin Sisko to, most recently, Anson Mount's Christopher Pike. So, in that light, it serves any new franchise actor well to put their own spin and bring their own sensibilities to the role instead.

With the possible exception of LeVar Burton, actor Scott Bakula was the biggest American celebrity to be cast as a main character on a "Star Trek" show up to that point. "Star Trek" typically cast recognizable working actors with solid careers, or newcomers and professionally trained stage performers. The characters and the setting were the key selling points, not the dazzle of celebrity. It's possible that the casting directors of Trek shows wanted the franchise to retain a timeless quality. The risk of casting a hot-right-now celebrity could potentially rob from that timelessness.
More recent "Star Trek" shows have cast more famous people -- Michelle Yeoh is a notable standout -- but for the most part, casting would fall into the realm of "Hey! It's the actress from 'Remo Williams!' or "Why is Cheryl McFadden calling herself Gates now?"
The makers of "Enterprise," however, were not intimidated by Bakula's popularity.
