Fox is taking a second stab at launching a U.S. version of the British comedy series Outnumbered. The network has handed out an off-cycle pilot order to the single-camera comedy from writers Barbara Wallace and Thomas R. Wolfe. It's being produced by 20th TV, Chernin Entertainment, and Hat Trick Prods, the British company behind the original series created by Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin. Inspired by the BBC sitcom, Outnumbered revolves around one set of parents who are often overwhelmed by their three children. Wallace and Wolfe executive produce with Peter Chernin, Katherine Pope and Jimmy Mulville.Fox, whose own hit single-camera comedy Malcolm In the Middle had a similar premise, first tried to adapt Outnumbered during the 2007-08 development season when the project was picked up to pilot written by Larry Levin and produced by Mrc and Hat Trick. The pilot starring Ken Marino and Brooke Bloom didn’t go to series.

John Hamburg, who co-wrote all 3 films in the Meet the Parents franchise, has signed a blind script deal with 20th Century Fox TV to develop a comedy series project targeted for the 2011-12 season. On the film side, Hamburg also wrote and directed I Love You, Man (co-penned with Larry Levin) and Along Came Polly. In TV, he previously created, executive produced and directed the short-lived CBS comedy series Welcome to the Captain and helmed 3 episodes for the cult Fox comedy Undeclared.

Headliners Paul Rudd and Jason Segel put their crack comic-timing to good use in .I Love You, Man. - a film that is otherwise weighted down in formulaic shenanigans about a .Man. who has no male friends and finds himself on the prowl for a best man for his upcoming wedding. And, yep, I get that the film is supposed to be a play on the formula of romantic comedies but it.s still a pretty flimsy idea at best with director John Hamburg (.Along Came Polly.) and writer Larry Levin (.Seinfeld. and, um, .Dr. Doolittle.) doing little to offer up surprises. We get all the rom-com requisites: a meet cute, an inexplicable break-up and the inevitable reunion tell-all...

The players: Director: John Hamburg, Writers: Larry Levin, John Hamburg, Cast: Paul Rudd, Jason Segel, Rashida Jones, Sarah Burns, Jaime Pressly
Facts of interest: Rudd also starred in "Role Models," while Segel recently starred in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall."
The plot: Rudd stars as a recently engaged man who has no guy friends and heads out to look for the perfect best man.
Our thoughts: In John Hamburg’s buddy comedy “I Love You, Man,” Paul Rudd plays Peter Klaven, a recently engaged real estate agent with a big problem: he really needs a best man, but much to his chagrin, he has absolutely no guy friends. Only solution: go on a series of ‘man-dates’ to find the perfect best buddy.

I Love You, Man Review Directed by: John Hamburg Written by: Larry Levin, John Hamburg Starring: Paul Rudd, Jason Segel, Rashida Jones, Jon Favreau, Andy Samberg, J.K. Simmons, Jaime Pressly, Lou Ferrigno Bromantic comedies are nothing new. Although they've been repackaged and renamed, the buddy comedy has been around for decades as an outlet to express the feelings that men have for each other but are too macho to say in real life. Judd Apatow didn't invent the idea, but he has found the sweet spot for balancing manly heartfelt moments with laughter, and presenting them in a way that attracts both male and female audiences. With John Hamburg's I Love You, Man, it would appear that the concept is being taken to its ultimate conclusion, by focusing on a man's quest to find a new best friend. The casting of Paul Rudd and Jason Segel also seemed ideal.

I Love You, Man is a buddy-buddy comedy with flawless central casting: two near-perfectly mismatched buddies -- played by Paul Rudd and Jason Segel as nervous, sensitive real estate agent Peter Klaven and Sydney Fife, his slobbo, over-direct, appealingly macho bud. It also has a lot of canny, clever insights into the psychosexual links between close male friends from director-writer John Hamburg and co writer Larry Levin, as well as the actors.

Awkward boy seeks bromance
I Love You, Man is centered on Peter Klaven (Paul Rudd), a real-estate agent who only really hangs out with his girlfriend and the ladies at his work. With a wedding quickly approaching, his girlfriend and her friends are practically begging him to find a best friend/man. Rudd drags through the first half of the movie showing how in touch he is with his feminine side, making a fool of himself at will, sometimes and sometimes not delivering laughs. Everyone from his mom to his hilarious gay brother Robbie (Andy Samberg) try to find Peter a friend, but to no avail. In his quest to find a pal, he gets kissed by a guy,...

There’s a reason the movies brought to the big screen by producer/director Judd Apatow are so successful. Even the weakest of the bunch take the hardest, most disgusting aspects of gross-out comedies and successfully merge them with the enormous heart of a romantic comedy and combine them to emerge with a film that draws both men and women into theater seats without fail. I Love You, Man, the latest comedy starring Apatow repertory players Paul Rudd and Jason Segal aspires to be the latest in the line of these gross-out romances. But there’s only one problem—Judd Apatow had absolutely nothing to do with this movie.
And it shows.
I Love You, Man is your typical boy-meets-boy, boy falls-in-man-love with boy, boy-loses-boy story. Peter Klaven (Paul Rudd), a sweet, if slightly effeminate guy, has just proposed to his adorable girlfriend, Zooey (Rashida Jones), but finds himself faced...

The first thing John Hamburg's "I Love You, Man" teaches us is that the mean time between the Style section of the New York Times heralding a fake trend and the creation of a Hollywood comedy predicated on that fake trend is about four years. It was in April of 2005 that the Times published an article entitled "The Man Date," which made the staggering observation that two men can have dinner and see a movie and not have sex with each other afterwards. Who knew? All those years I was doing it wrong! No wonder it took me so long to get married to a woman!
Patent ridiculousness of the piece aside, it did, unfortunately, introduce the term "man date" into the urban post-modern vocabulary, and where there's a catchphrase, there's usually a high concept waiting to attach itself to it in some film industry pitch meeting. Hence, "I Love You,...
