Inaugurating the Mumbai Art Fair at the Nehru Centre on Friday, acclaimed poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar opened up on why he does not like to speak words of inspiration when he is invited to preside over events.
Interacting with the media, on being asked to share inspirational words for the benefit of young artists, the poet, dressed in his trademark flowing kurta and churidar, said, “Sharing inspiring words, or giving inspiration, these are very condescending and patronising things to do. I really don’t like doing it, I have great respect for young people.”
Talking about why he believes young people are special, he said, “I think they are finding their own ways. They will think what I can’t think, they will see what I can’t see. Painters are your eyes in a way, they show you what you missed.”

While we get to watch new films all the time, the lockdown could be a golden chance to catch up with a few classics across genres. Digital platforms are overflowing with them, and you would literally be spoilt for choice selecting some really enjoyable stuff that has come out of Bollywood over the decades. Twenty-one days, it would seem, is too short a time to catch up with what really defines vintage Bollywood and is available in the Ott libraries.
Ians picks a few old films that you might want to revisit, that will let you relax and bust the stress of lockdown. Of course, this is not a definitive list.
* Chupke Chupke (1975)
Directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, the comedy film is about a man pretending to be a driver and fooling his wife's brother-in-law as an attempt to prove that the brother-in-law is not as smart as he claims to be.

Director Ram Gopal Varma describes his forthcoming movie as a "men's film" and says it was natural for Amitabh Bachchan to spearhead the show in the promos of the movie."Isn't that obvious? With the kind of personality and the stardom that he enjoys, it is but natural that Amitabh Bachchan would be spearheading the entire film," Varma said.If one goes by the film's synopsis, there are other characters like Sudeep, Riteish Deshmukh, Mohnish Behl, Paresh Rawal and Rajat Kapoor who have been described to be quite important. What sort of space and time has Varma managed to create for these characters?"Every other character is important; otherwise it wouldn't have found place in the film. There won't be any character that would feel short-changed or left out in the film," said Varma.Where do Neetu Chandra, Gul Panag, Suchitra Krishnamurthy or Simone Singh fit in?...
