Meghan McCain is so done with TV.
After four years on “The View,” the political lightning rod needed a breather.
“This is so superficial,” McCain says when asked why she does not miss being on television every day. “My hair and skin were so thrashed because I wore hair extensions, and bleached my hair and had to wear full camera face makeup every day. Just the idea of having to get my hair wrecked and my face wrecked again is reason enough for me not to miss television.”
With a laugh, she exudes a sense of calm: “My hair looks so good now. My skin looks so good.”
“And,” McCain adds, “I don’t always know that everything needs my opinion.”
What McCain does miss, however, is talking about the news. And so, she’s launching her own podcast and production company.
Variety can reveal that McCain has launched Citizen Cain Productions,...

Ridley Scott made cinema history when he recast Christopher Plummer in the role of J. Paul Getty in the wake of accusations of sexual assault of a minor against Kevin Spacey. He fulfilled promise to have All the Money in the World ready for its December 22 release, and in fact had it ready to screen for press on the 15th. J. Paul Getty (Plummer) was the wealthiest man in the world, though not a great family man. After his son lost custody of his grandchildren in the divorce from Gail Harris (Michelle Williams), Getty largely turned his back on...read more...

In the wake of the allegations of sexual misconduct against Kevin Spacey, Ridley Scott had to quickly reshoot and re-edit Spacey's role as J. Paul Getty in All The Money in the World -- with Christopher Plummer taking over the part.
Scott, Plummer, and some of the cast, including Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Williams, sat down with Et's Kevin Frazier at the film's junket on Sunday to reveal how they pulled off the whirlwind switch, and why Scott was immediately on board with the idea.
The Alien: Convenant director said he recognized a shift in the Hollywood landscape as soon as the Harvey Weinstein allegations came out, and decided when accusations against Spacey were revealed, he had to move fast.
"I knew as soon as they hit Kevin it was going to blow wide open and I contacted my partners and said, 'We should recast this right now. We shoot right now, we'll be out the...

We are seeing something that has never happened before. Director Ridley Scott and studio executives have decided to remove Kevin Spacey from the movie All The Money In The World, which has already completed shooting. Deadline Hollywood broke the story that actor Christopher Plummer will replace Spacey in the role of J. Paul Getty. It seems like a tall order considering that Scott is determined to keep the film's December 22nd release date. Re-shoots of the key scenes are expected to commence immediately.
The cast and crew of the film, and Sony Pictures, all agreed to re-shoot all of Spacey’s scenes, with Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Williams. The decision comes after they decided to pull the film from the AFI Festival when sexual assault allegations against Spacey might affect the film that Scott dropped everything to direct. They were also concerned that because so many people worked hard and...

An Oscar movie could hit theaters at any time during the year -- as far as the rules are concerned, it only needs to be released between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31 to be eligible -- but everyone knows that all of the true contenders arrive in the last quarter of the year.
I suppose some Academy-worthy movies have already been released: Dunkirk, right? The Big Sick and Get Out less likely, but perhaps! I guess some people believe Wonder Woman could really get a Best Picture nomination.... So, instead of considering this our first round of Oscar predictions, think of it as a Ones to Watch list to prepare you as studios start showing off their films that could earn noms at next year's Academy Awards. (Which are still five months away, Fyi, on March 4, 2018.)

When in Rome … Michelle Williams likes to play tourist.
The actress, 36, was spotted Monday evening with producer friend Kevin Walsh at Pierluigi restaurant. Williams wore an off-the-shoulder red dress by Reformation (which retails for $198) and Walsh wore a casual white dress shirt and khaki trousers.
The mother of one is currently shooting the latest Ridley Scott-directed film, All the Money in the World, opposite actors Kevin Spacey and Mark Wahlberg. Walsh is an executive producer of the film and is the president of Scott’s film and television production company, Scott Free Films.

Charlie Plummer, the actor best known for his performances across King Jack and bootlegging drama Boardwalk Empire, has signed on to play real-life kidnap victim J. Paul Getty III for All the Money in the World.
Variety has the scoop, confirming that Plummer has climbed on board to star opposite Michelle Williams, Mark Wahlberg, and House of Cards alum Kevin Spacey. Alien: Covenant helmer Ridley Scott is behind the lens for this one, which recounts the remarkable 1970s kidnapping case that involved Paul Getty (Plummer), the unruly teenage grandson of ultra-rich oil tycoon J. Paul Getty (Spacey). Plucked from his hometown in the middle of the night, Getty junior was thrust into a life-or-death situation after his kidnappers demanded a $17 million ransom from Getty senior, but the real twist in the tale comes when Kevin Spacey’s curmudgeon outright refuses to shell out the necessary funds, pushing their already fragile...

A film by Scott and a TV Show by Boyle chronicle a 1970s kidnapping.
Fresh off The Martian and Alien: Covenant, Ridley Scott is returning to earth for his next project, and to the all-too-human subjects of greed, power, and family. Scott will be directing All the Money in the World, a Black List script by David Scarpa that recounts the real life kidnapping of John Paul Getty III. Getty was the grandson of J. Paul Getty Sr., one of the world’s wealthiest men at the time, but had become estranged from his grandfather after his mother, Gail Harris, had divorced John Paul Getty II. When, one night in 1973, Getty III (known as Paul) didn’t return home, a ransom note soon appeared demanding $17 million for his return. Getty Sr., suspecting that the young man may have staged his own kidnapping, initially refused to pay — until a lock Paul’s hair and his severed right ear...

Ridley Scott is set to direct a new film project that has nothing to do with aliens. The film is called All the Money in the World, and it centers around true life events surrounding the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III. I don't know if you're familiar with this story or not, but it's pretty intense. Here's a breakdown:
At 3 a.m. on 10 July 1973, Getty, then age 16, was kidnapped in the Piazza Farnese in Rome. A ransom note was received, demanding $17 million in exchange for his safe return. When that ransom message arrived, some family members suspected the kidnapping was merely a ploy by the rebellious youngster as he had frequently joked about staging his own kidnapping to extract money from his frugal grandfather. He was blindfolded and imprisoned in a mountain hideout. A second demand was received, but had been delayed by an Italian postal strike. John Paul Getty,...

Though you’d be forgiven for thinking that Ridley Scott has next-to-no room left on his busy, busy schedule what with Alien: Covenant and its embryonic sequel, the prolific filmmaker is reportedly on the verge of closing a deal to helm All the Money in the World.
Per Deadline, the David Scarpa-scripted drama has been plucked from Hollywood’s Black List by Sony. It chronicles the infamous 1973 Mafia kidnapping of John Paul Getty III, and Gail Harris’ desperate attempts to locate her wayward son. To make matters worse, the boy’s greedy grandfather John Paul Getty Sr., said to be the world’s richest man at the time, outright refused to pay the $17 million ransom.
Angelina Jolie was once in contention to take point as Harris, but ultimately decided to pass due to scheduling concerns. According to Deadline, Ridley Scott and Co. have now turned their sights toward Natalie Portman for the role.

Ridley Scott's next film won't be another Alien sequel after all...
It seems that after making two science fiction films in a row with The Martian and Alien: Covenant (plus Blade Runner if you want count his producing efforts), director Ridley Scott wishes to focus on something more down to earth. Hence, it’s intriguing news that he and Sony Pictures are planning to fast-track All The Money In The World, a black scripted account of the famed Getty kidnapping saga.
Indeed, bumping ahead of Scott’s plans to adapt The Cartel, All The Money is being put together quickly by Tom Rothman. And as Deadline reports, Natalie Portman is currently being courted for the lead role of Gail Harris, the mother of the globally renowned kidnap victim, John Paul Getty III. Ridley Scott may be planning to make Alien prequels for as long as the world will let him, and he’s suggesting that his long-teased Gladiator sequel might actually happen, but apparently he still has time for a more low-key, prestige-friendly project on top of that sillier, more crowd-pleasing stuff. According to Deadline, Scott is “finalizing plans” to direct All The Money In The World, a drama film about the kidnapping of oil dynasty heir John Paul Getty III. The plot will apparently focus on Gail Harris, the boy’s mother, who tried to convince his famously miserly grandfather to pay the ransom. Eventually, after receiving the boy’s ear in the mail, the elder Getty caved and paid the kidnappers a fraction of the $17 million they initially demanded.

With “Alien: Covenant” two months away from release, director Ridley Scott is close to signing on for his next project: “All The Money In The World,” a true-story drama about the kidnapping of famed oil tycoon John Paul Getty’s grandson, J.P. Getty III, according to multiple reports. The project, which is being produced and financed by Imperative Entertainment and distributed by Sony Pictures, is set to start filming in Italy in May, shortly after the release of “Alien: Covenant.” Written by David Scarpa, the film follows the younger Getty’s mother, Gail Harris, as she tries to convince the wealthy patriarch.

I envy those true-blue Ridley Scott fans who anticipate each of his features and find auteurist interest in all — Robin Hood a worthy companion to Matchstick Men, Exodus nothing to dismiss, etc. They get a new title practically every year! Just two months before Alien: Covenant, the director’s looking to helm All the Money in the World, a David Scarpa-scripted, true-crime kidnapping drama that has the backing of Sony Pictures.
Oh, and Natalie Portman‘s probably going to be onboard, assuming ongoing negotiations really click into place, reports Deadline. The role, originally an attraction for Angelina Jolie, is Gail Harris, a woman whose son, John Paul Getty III, was kidnapped in 1973 and held for a $17 million ransom. The drama largely centers on her attempts to get the boy’s grandfather, John Paul Getty Sr, to pay the ransom — perhaps easy enough, since he was possibly then the world’s richest man,...

John Paul Getty III's recent death brings to a close a tragic chapter in the wealthy family's decades-long drama of strife and eccentricity. Anthony Haden-Guest reports on their woe.
The death on February 5 of John Paul Getty III at Wormsley, his estate in the English county of Buckinghamshire, where he had long been watched over by his mother, Gail, and a round-the-clock team of caregivers, writes finis to a story as terrible as it is gripping. It is in its essentials a tale of the family lives of the hugely rich so we might as well begin at a peculiarly high or low point which is with his kidnapping at the age of 16 by a gang of mobsters at 3 a.m. on July 10, 1973 on Rome's Piazza Farnese.

London — Great wealth became J. Paul Getty III's great curse.
At age 16, he was held for ransom for five months by captors who cut off his ear when his oil-rich grandfather balked at paying.
After his 1973 release, he became addicted to drugs and alcohol, diving deeper into a hippie counterculture that seemed the opposite of his family's capitalistic roots. He was only in his 20s when he suffered a devastating stroke that left him severely impaired and in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. He died Saturday at age 54.
Getty "never let his handicap keep him from living life to the fullest and he was an inspiration to all of us, showing us how to stand up to all adversity," his son, the actor Balthazar Getty, said in a statement.
The elder Getty died surrounded by his family at his country estate in Buckinghamshire northwest of London.

He gets to revisit a movie he loves filled with plenty of T and A (and bush too). The movie's still terrible with juvenile humor, cartoon sound effects, a theme sound repeated 10 times that only has 3 words in it, but it harkens back to a time when Cinemax After Dark movies weren't all bored rich housewives who become prostitues and get screwed in the navel by dudes in badly orchestrated simulated sex scenes movies.
