To celebrate its release, we’re giving three lucky winners a copy of the new collection of DC Animated shorts, Constantine – The House Of Mystery on Blu-Ray!
The new DC Showcase line of animated shorts elevates the beloved characters Constantine, Kamandi, The Losers, and Blue Beetle. In the anchoring short, John Constantine wakes up in the eerie House of Mystery with no recollection of how he got there. Fortunately, Zatanna and his friends are all there. Unfortunately, they have a bad habit of turning into demons and ripping him to shreds, over and over again!
Matt Ryan reprises his live-action and animated role as the Hellblazer himself in Constantine – The House of Mystery. Camilla Luddington (Grey’s Anatomy) and Ray Chase (Licorice Pizza) reprise their roles as Zatanna and Jason Blood/Etrigan, respectively. The shorts are directed by Matt Reeves (Constantine – The House of Mystery and Kamandi: The Last Boy On Earth!

I wish I had a grandchild to enjoy Scooby-Doo! and Batman: The Brave and the Bold with since I am far from the target audience. I was outgrowing Saturday morning TV when Scooby and the gang debuted and never warmed up to them. Over time, the troublesome teens have encountered countless pop culture celebrities in their storied career but this, their fourth meeting with the Caped Crusader, is a record.
It makes perfect sense that the 1960s homage version of Batman (Diedrich Bader) is used here since it is stylistically appropriate for this sort of crossover. Paul Giacoppo acquits himself well with a breezy script that uses touchstone elements from both series so fans are satisfied. Comics aficionados will appreciate the use of the New Look era Mystery Analysts of Gotham, even though the novelists have been replaced by the more colorful Martian Manhunter (Nicholas Guest), Detective Chimp (Kevin Michael Richardson...

Although this year’s Siggraph theme,”Render the Possibilities,” offers a nice catchphrase for all of the cutting-edge CG eye candy on display next week at the Anaheim Convention Center, there’s also a timely sub-theme revolving around empathy in Vr, which can be witnessed in other presentations as well.
Given the tragic racial violence and anger that has swept the country, Carnegie Mellon University’s Vr experience, “Injustice,” couldn’t be timelier — or more educational. It’s built around racially motivated police brutality. Participants witness an act of racial discrimination, forcing them to make moral and ethical decisions on the spot. They can actively engage with, and alter, the storyline by selecting a variety of dialogue choices.
Similarly, “Invasion!,” explores ideas around character empathy and immersive Vr “presence” with a close alien encounter. Presented in real-time and directed by “Madagascar’s” Eric Darnell, the animated short features narration by Ethan Hawke.
