Neil Gaiman's "The Sandman" explores the tale of the titular primordial figure known as Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams. The original comics series ran for 75 issues since its debut in 1989 and has gained popular acclaim ever since. But how did Gaiman come up with the idea of creating such a vibrant comics series in the first place?
/Film's Danielle Ryan asked Gaiman about the origins of "The Sandman" during a press event for the upcoming Netflix adaptation of the comics series, and here's what he said:

Understandably for a show called The Sandman, much of Netflix‘s series adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s comic is concerned with the journey of Lord of Dreams, himself. And yet, both Gaiman’s comic and Netflix’s show still have six other members of “The Endless” to portray.
Among the most interesting of The Sandman’s “siblings” is Desire, played by Mason Alexander Park. Desire is the third youngest of The Endless and the twin of Despair (naturally). Androgynous, beautiful, and cruel, Desire is perhaps the toughest Endless to fully comprehend. Why does the heart want what the heart wants? It’s up to Gaiman, Netflix, and ultimately Park to figure that out.
Den of Geek spoke with the actor about Desire’s role in this uniquely dysfunctional celestial family.

“Tug of Love Baby Eaten By Cows.” That is the headline of the September 14, 1988 issue of The Sun newspaper in The Sandman story “Preludes and Nocturnes.” The headline is a portent, one of many, hinting that Morpheus, the King of Dreams, has escaped his imprisonment.
The headline was also a kind of portent for the comic’s writer, Neil Gaiman, many years later.
“I didn’t, on a gut level, believe that it was all happening until I was being shown around the prop room,” Gaiman says. “I was walking around the props and being shown stuff, and there in front of me was the copy of a Sun newspaper dated September 2022, and ‘Tug of Love Baby Eaten by Cows’ was the headline. I thought, ‘It’s actually happening, and it’s real, and it’s being made by people who care and who love the original.

American Horror Stories is back to haunt your dreams. The first teaser, titled Die-o-Rama, for season two of the American Horror Story spin-off, coming to FX on Hulu July 21, will probably make you sleep with the lights on tonight. While The Chordettes' "Mr. Sandman" plays, a creepy dollhouse comes into focus and a giant human doll injects another resembling Alice in Wonderland's Red Queen with a huge needle. The needle doesn't do its job (or does it?) and the doll awakens to choke the other. We're off to a terrifying start. In a separate room of the house, a doll dressed in a wedding gown tears off the arm of another doll and pushes her down some sort of well....

I will admit I was much more of a WWE fan than WCW, but even with that being the case I remember some classic matches from Nitro that caught my interest. With The Best Of WCW Monday Night Nitro – Volume 3 being released I was wondering if we’d get some, but the cracks are starting to show, and a lack of focus is at play.
My problem with this release may come from the fact that over the last month or so I’ve reviewed WWE: The Kliq Rules, and WWE: Monday Night Wars Vol. 1 which had a focus on the Nwo. This wasn’t a bad thing, it showed them at their best and when they were entertaining. Joining them in paralytic fear is Libby Hill from NPR and Midwest Spitfire. Is Jack Crawford bedrock? How prevalent is mental illness in this series? Is it taken seriously? All the questions–and more–will be answered. If you aren’t too terrified, you might be around long enough to catch “Kate’s Classical Corner,” “The Devil in the Details” and “Spoiled Meat,” but we can already sense...

Well, if considering the lampooning nature of the 1990s in the pro wrestling industry, the idea that Ecw’s place in all of this as an outside instigator is incredibly important. As the “third” major American company, the idea that Ecw promoted hardcore and pure wrestling over classic portrayals of the business and cartoonish buffoonery (and excelled in doing so) pushed forth WCW’s attempts at indoctrinating cruiserweight wrestling into the industry, as well as then then WWF’s “Attitude Era.”
Insofar as Ecw poking fun at the competition, as well as the competition poking fun at them, the silliness is obvious and rather commonplace. However, the more intriguing issues to consider center around moments when Ecw’s wrestlers, wrestling or characters were directly lifted from the bingo hall on the corner of Swanson and Ritner in South Philadelphia and put on Raw, Nitro, Smackdown, Thunder or global Pay-Per-View.

Welcome home, Beanie Sigel. The rapper (born Dwight Grant) was released from a Federal Detention Center in Philadelphia today after spending nearly a year and a half behind bars for drug possession. When contacted by E! News, an officer at the Pennsylvania institution confirmed that the name Dwight Grant "is not in the system for current inmates." A photo of Sigel after his release was posted on the Instagram account for HipHopSince1987 with a caption that read, "Fresh out the federal ... Beanie Sigel home." Sigel, who was already serving time behind bars after Pennsylvania State Police found unspecified pills and codeine syrup on him and a .38-caliber handgun in the car during a...

Things are about to get extreme, I hope you’re ready! It’s that special time of year. You can smell the barbed wire, hear the piles of thumbtacks dropping and taste the blood that’s about to flow. It’s time for Extreme Rules! Okay, so we’ll have none of that. No Sandman, no Sabu, no nothing! Well I guess a rapidly balding Rob Van Dam will be appearing on the former Ecw pay-per-view which now features Hornswoggle vs. El Torito. That’s extremely horrifying on multiple levels. But hey, it’s on the WWE Network so it’s a fraction of the cost that it used to be. Might as well watch, unless you’re into television that doesn’t insult your intelligence like Game of Thrones or Mad Men. But what’s the fun in that?
This week we said goodbye to our old friend Mason Ryan,...

If there's anything I have as much of a passion for as horror movies it's professional wrestling, which has been a lifelong obsession of mine since well before the days my parents allowed me to make friends with guys like Jason and Freddy. Not surprisingly, it's been the horror-inspired characters that I've always found myself gravitating towards - guys who looked and acted like they belonged inside the confines of horror films, more than they did the squared circle.
With WWE's Wrestlemania 30 on the horizon, taking place this Sunday night, now's the perfect time to shine the spotlight on some of the scariest grapplers in the history of the business, which is precisely what I'm here to do today. So here are 10 professional wrestlers who have channeled the spirit of horror cinema over the years, and have brought together my two biggest passions in life!

Of course, we all know things are only destined to get worse and worse for Norman and his mom, and the second episode this season (airing Mon. at 9:00 p.m. on A&E) promises plenty of drama, some of it on the stage. Norma tries to distract Norman from his obsession with Miss Watson by auditioning for a play. Yes, a little theater always does wonders for a budding sociopath! Just listen to Norma and Norman's rendition of "Mr. Sandman" in the teaser below. It's the perfect music for eye gouging and small animal killing! That's not all that happens, of course. A new player in town has Dylan and Remo on edge... Are you watching "Bates Motel"? ...

It was 20 years ago that Extreme Championship Wrestling was born, when Eastern Championship Wrestling changed direction under the evil genius of Paul Heyman, breaking away from the National Wrestling Alliance.
The recent launch of the WWE Network means that every Ecw pay-per-view in history is available at the click of a button. Amid the overwhelming options available, it can be hard to choose which matches to re-live first.
Of course, there were plenty of quintessentially “extreme” moments in Ecw — the crucifixion of Sandman, rings collapsing, chair-hurling, and the infamous Mass Transit Incident, to name a few.
But in the Land of Extreme there were many extremely good wrestling matches, notable for their technical proficiency rather than gratuitous violence.
This list celebrates both “extremes,” so to speak — the matches that made our stomach turn with violence, and the ones that made us marvel at truly great wrestling.

The second season of Bates Motel is set to premiere in March, and today we have a couple of new TV spots for you to check out. The first is called "Mr. Sandman," and it has a very creepy vibe to it. The second is just an extended look at what we can expect to see in the new season, and it looks great.
Bates Motel gives viewers an intimate portrayal of how Norman Bates’ psyche unravels through his teenage years. Fans will have access to the dark, twisted backstory and learn first hand just how deeply intricate his relationship with his mother, Norma, truly is and how she helped forge the most famous serial killer of them all.
The series returns to A&E on March 3rd, 2014. I really enjoyed the first season, and I'm excited for its return.

After the busy holiday season and the hectic Awards Season, it may be time for a nice, relaxing stay at the "Bates Motel." A&E's "Psycho" prequel is returning for a 10-episode second season, and three new, brief teasers remind viewers that Norma Bates (Vera Farmiga) and her son Norman (Freddie Highmore) have their own disturbing idea of how to run a small business. The first video (above) offers an adorable performance of "Mr. Sandman" by Mother and child, a peek inside Norman's warped little mind, and a glimpse of some of the operatic violence and sexual ickiness to look forward to...

Noir drama Mob City dresses the part but does it deliver? Here's Michael's review...
This article contains spoilers.
Over half a century since its heyday film noir endures as a source of both earnest tribute and knowing parody. Perhaps the most convincing reason for this is its striking visual signature; the shadows, the menacing urban environment and the suit-hat-gun combination of its male principals. The strength of these images means that It’s very easy to produce an ‘idea’ of noir, a general impression of it that encompasses all of these elements while missing the central ingredient of moral uncertainty and outright cynical worldview that made it work as a narrative artform.
Unfortunately, Mob City, which has been given a rushed release in the pre-Christmas doldrums, offers quite a lot of the former but very little of the latter. It’s a beautiful looking...

This Friday the 13th, we are proud to bring you a new column called The Thirteen! The Thirteen will be a Top 13 list of a topic that we choose and the column will run every 13th of the month! The Thirteen is a collaborative column where we all decide on entries that fit said topic.
The topic this month: regular songs that have now taken on a haunting feel thanks to a film that used it in a unorthodox way. Now, every time we hear the song, we not only think of the film it was featured in but also get the heebie jeebies from it as well. It was inspired by Tiny Tim’s song Tiptoe Through the Tulips which was used in the film Insidious. With Insidious: Chapter 2 in theaters now, what better way to introduce this topic.

If you grew up with the Nes, you probably had a copy of Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, or at least knew someone who did. And as such, you also probably have fond memories of climbing the ranks, defeating the likes of King Hippo, Piston Honda, and Mr. Sandman. Only to have Iron Mike himself hand you defeat over, and over, and over again.
Figuring out and then dealing with Tyson's devastating right hook was not easy, something that only someone with comparable skills would be able to handle, or one might assume. Which begs the question: how would the real Mike Tyson fare against his digital counterpart? The answer: apparently not very well, considering how he can even beat Glass Joe, the very first guy in the game and a total pushover.
Polygon recently highlighted a brief on the street encounter between Tyson and someone at TMZ,...

As if having your fiancé fall under a sleeping spell and then awaken in love with someone else was not enough of a challenge in the Nick and Juliette romance, the latest temptation will be in the form of a Wesen muse who tries to enslave Nick. The path to true love is never easy, but it is always worth it. Let’s just hope that the writers of Grimm do not tread any heavier on our already taxed romantic hearts. In a recent press conference call, star David Giuntoli provided some candid thoughts about what is upcoming for Nick and Juliette as well as a few more fun teasers about what is upcoming in the second season finale.

"Grimm" was recently renewed for a third season, and big surprises are in store for the finale, which airs on May 21st, with David Giuntoli teasing that one of the cast may not live through it.
We recently chatted with the leading man to discuss "Grimm" and its evolution up to this point. Giuntoli also stated that there is a chance we will see the return of Nick's mother, Kelly Burkhardt, played by Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, in tonight's episode, "Endangered," while Nick and Juliette continue trying to repair their relationship.
Before getting into the hardcore plot points of what is ahead, I chatted with David about some of the things he likes to do for fun, including what video games he plays--hey, I am BioGamer Girl after all!
Amanda Dyar: Hey, David. I want to know- on the show Nick never really gets a lot of downtime. So what...

Back in March "Grimm" Episode 2.15, "Mr. Sandman," was home to what we called one of the best homages to The Fly we've ever seen, and apparently NBC agrees as they've released a new creature profile that focuses on the beast of the piece, the Jinnamuru Xunte, a hideous fly-like creature that feeds off its victims' tears.
Check out the video below, and be sure to tune in April 26th for Episode 2.18, "Ring of Fire," the show's final Friday night installment before it moves to its new home on Tuesdays beginning April 30th.

Grimm Episode 215
“Mr. Sandman”
Written By: Alan Difiore
Directed By: Norberto Barba
Original Airdate: 22 March 2013
In This Episode...
Andre, a charming, handsome South African frequents grief support groups. At them, he befriends grieving young women then takes them home. He then turns into a giant mutant fly creature, sprays red sand in their eyes, blinding them. While they scream in panic and pain, he tackles them and sucks their tears directly from their eyes with his freakishly long tongue. Then, he leaves. The first woman we see him do this to is Molly. After he leaves Molly, she is stumbling around her own home, and pulls a bookcase down to herself, killing her instantly. An autopsy reveals that she was blinded recently, and the red sand in her eyes contains tiny red parasites. The closest disease the medical examiner can come up with is river blindness, which is transmitted through...

"Mr. Sandman" didn’t bring any dreams or cute things to Portland.
This is Grimm, after all. Why bring dreams when you can bring death and blindness?
The case of the week proved to be one of the greater investigations of Grimm Season 2. The idea of a man stealing the sight of people who are in periods of grief and, literally, having them lose their way all so he can find his own is pretty compelling.
It’s a metaphor not only for the case, but also where Grimm is at this point in its story arcs. Almost every element was accounted for: Juliette is experiencing grief over her forgotten memories or fearing what she just can’t seem to remember. Team Nick is doing its best to figure out where it fits in to Renard’s master plan, as it speculated around the dinner table, but sometimes they’re just going into things blindly.
