From 1969 to 2011, K.K. Downing was a member of Judas Priest, and alongside Glenn Tipton made up one of metal’s all-time greatest guitar tandems. The pair helped power such classic albums as British Steel, Screaming for Vengeance, and Painkiller, along with headbanging anthems like “Breaking the Law,” “Living After Midnight,” and “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’.”
After Downing’s exit, Priest carried on with guitarist Richie Faulkner. But when it was announced in 2018 that Tipton was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and would no longer tour (aside from special appearances), it seemingly opened the door for Downing to return. But ultimately, the vacated slot went to Andy Sneap, the co-producer of Priest’s 2018 album, Firepower.
Despite a brief performance with Judas Priest at the band’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last year, Downing says the door is now shut on a reunion.

When Dolly Parton learned she was going to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, her first reaction was to tell her supporters not to vote for her since she saw herself as strictly a country artist. But when she walked onstage near the end of the induction ceremony Saturday night at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, after witnessing an incredible evening of music by artists as diverse as Eminem, Judas Priest, Lionel Richie, and Duran Duran, a beaming Parton had a very different take on the situation.

Judas Priest marked their long-awaited induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with a supersized performance of three of their most beloved songs Saturday.
Despite years of estrangement and sharp barbs in the press, the quintet — in their signature leather, studs, and metal chains — welcomed original guitarist K.K. Downing and former drummer Les Binks for likely the loudest performance of the night. The group is one of only a handful of heavy metal bands to claw their way into the institution.

Rolling Stone’s interview series King for a Day features long-form conversations between senior writer Andy Greene and singers who had the difficult job of fronting major rock bands after the departure of an iconic vocalist. Some of them stayed in their bands for years, while others lasted just a few months. In the end, however, they all found out that replacement singers can themselves be replaced. This edition features former Judas Priest singer Tim “Ripper” Owens.

Judas Priest have been eligible for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for a quarter century, and they appeared on the ballot three times before finally making it in this year as one of the winners of the Musical Excellence Award, but frontman Rob Halford isn’t even remotely bitter that it’s taken this long.
“Third time’s the charm,” he tells Rolling Stone via Zoom, beaming with delight. “We left the launchpad and now we’re headed to the hallowed halls. It’s a great day...

This year, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has once again nominated heavy-metal pioneers Judas Priest for induction. The fact that the group has been eligible for 22 years now and isn’t yet in the Hall after three times on the ballot doesn’t sit well with Kerry King, the former Slayer guitarist, who has been a massive Priest fan since high school.
“Some years, you hear who got in the Rock Hall and you’re like, ‘Well, how did they get in above these other bands?'” he says.

The impact that Rob Halford and his band Judas Priest have had on heavy metal is immeasurable. His black-leather outfits gave the genre its trademark look, his pitch-perfect vocals gave it some drama, and his penchant for riding motorcycle onstage gave it some larger-than-life flair. When Halford came out as gay in 1998, the self-proclaimed Metal God broadened his role-model status to appeal to metalheads looking to break out of the closet.
The singer has now recounted the highs and lows of his life story in his newly released memoir, Confess.

Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford opens his autobiography, Confess, with a promise: “I have been totally candid in this memoir. This is the gospel truth.” And judging from the mix of hilarious, heartbreaking, and sordid stories he shares, as he explains how he rose from humble beginnings in England’s Black Country to take on the world as the self-proclaimed “Metal God,” he clearly stuck to that pledge. The book will be available on Tuesday, September 29th.

After some time away from the spotlight, former Judas Priest guitarist K.K. Downing has formed a new band that will pay homage to his past — alongside other ex-members of the heavy-metal pioneers.
Downing joined the band in 1970 and left in 2011, saying, “I feel that Priest has played its part in music history and feel very proud to have achieved what we have.” Not long after his departure, Richie Faulkner joined the group.

Former Judas Priest guitarist K.K. Downing’s 1967 Flying V has sold in a London auction for approximately $189,000, as Blabbermouth notes. It was on of 11 of Downing’s guitars the International auction house Bonhams sold in their Entertainment Memorabilia auction, which concluded on December 11th. The guitar was used on a number of classic albums, including Sad Wings of Destiny and Point of Entry.
Another of Downing’s guitars fetched equally impressive coin: His 1971 Flying V Medallion was sold for approximately $102,000. The entertainment-themed lot also included a 1970s Heliocentric Helios Console...

Former Judas Priest guitarist K.K. Downing recalls having a revelation at some point in the mid-Seventies. “I looked across at my bandmates and thought, ‘What the hell are they wearing?'” he tells Rolling Stone with a hearty laugh. At the time, the group was decking themselves out in frilly, silken pastel outfits, even though frontman Rob Halford was singing about classic heavy-metal tropes like death, destruction and rising above adversity. The look didn’t jibe with the message.

He had been living in exile in A Fonsagrada, Spain after being convicted of the attempted rape of a 17-year-old boy and subsequently serving a sentence in prison. Judas Priest, heavy metal legends, released the title song of their upcoming album Redeemer of Souls, their first new music in six years on Monday.
Judas Priest released “Redeemer of Souls” on YouTube and the song is also available for download on iTunes.
“Redeemer of Souls” is the first song from the band recorded without K.K. Downing, a founding member and guitarist of the group who left the band in 2011. Instead, new Judas Priest guitarist Richie Faulkner makes his debut with the band.
Rob Halford, Judas Priest’s frontman, has high hopes for their upcoming album, saying, “It’s heavy. It’s something we think our Priest fans will be thrilled with. We know we have a reputation to maintain, and we know we have to deliver something really strong and solid. The album is going to be full of all the great things you love about Judas Priest.”

There's not much I can write about the illustrious career of Sir Christopher Lee that hasn't been covered thousands of times already – I mean seriously, this man embodied one of the best screen versions of Dracula, and he's played super-villains equally matched against Obi-Wan Kenobi, Gandalf and James Bond – but it's still worth mentioning that at age 91 (as of this week), the ultimate genre Renaissance man is not only continuing to take on media projects, but has also forged ahead with his latter-day career as a heavy metal vocalist. Lee has contributed guest vocals to other musical projects (most notably on albums by Manowar and Rhapsody), but three years ago he ascended to the leading role in the rock opera Charlemagne: By the Sword and the Cross, a sweeping, bloody and cinematic concept album about the first Holy Roman Emperor, also known as King Charles the Great. Now, I think...
