February’s home media releases are ending in a big way, with 20 different horror and sci-fi titles making their way onto various formats this week. Leading the pack this Tuesday are Rian Johnson’s Knives Out, which comes home on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD, as well as Richard Stanley’s Color Out of Space, which will be available on both Blu and DVD. Scream Factory is showing Mary Lambert’s Pet Sematary Two some love this week with their Collector’s Edition release, and for those of you into wacky, obscure cult classics, you’ll definitely want to pick up Vinegar Syndrome’s Blu-ray for Spookies.
Arrow Video is keeping busy with their Special Edition releases of Deadly Manor and the One Missed Call trilogy, and Severin Films has given James Glickenhaus’ The Astrologer an HD overhaul this week, too.
Other notable releases for February 25th include The Candy Snatchers,...

One of the perks of backing Vinegar Syndrome’s move into video on demand (the now-launched Exploitation.TV) was a double bill limited edition DVD of Len Anthony’s Murderous Intent and Fright House, offered only to those who, like me, backed the Indiegogo campaign. Now I’d never heard of either movie. But given the fact that – at least of as far the Nerdly team are concerned – Vinegar Syndrome can do no wrong. No matter how obscure or how bizarre the films, there’s always something interesting or intriguing about the titles they choose to release… whether that be sex, violence or (as in the case of these two Len Anthony movies) sheer insanity!
Murderous Intent
Stars: Ron Mychal, William Walters, Darrow Turner, Agnetta Eckmyr, Duey Graham, Jamet De Leon, Lauren Ruane | Written and Directed by Len Anthony

No good deed shall go unpunished in the pageant world, it seems. After apologizing to Vanessa Williams (pictured above) for forcing her to retire over her nude photos in Playboy during Sunday’s ceremony, the Miss America organization has been hit with a demand for a mea culpa from another disgraced beauty queen who was stripped of her title because of on-camera nudity. Jennifer DeLora, a former Miss Ulster County from New York who was relieved of her title for appearing nude in a movie, now wants an “oops, our bad” from the organization, TMZ reported. See video: Vanessa Williams Becomes Nudity Trailblazer.

A former Miss New York contestant forced to give up her crown by the Miss America Organization after appearing topless in a film wants an apology similar to Vanessa Williams'. Jennifer DeLora was crowned Miss Ulster County, New York in 1986 and was about to compete for the Miss New York crown when the org came across her starring role in "Bad Girls Dormitory," in which she was topless for only 7 seconds. DeLora says she...

Frank Henenlotter’s comic take on Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein has finally been released on Blu-ray thanks to Synapse Films.
When Jeffrey Franken (James Lorinz) loses his fiancé Elizabeth Shelly (Patty Mullen) to a horrible mulching accident at a family birthday party he becomes obsessed with bringing her back. An amateur bioelectric technician with dreams of grandeur, Jeffrey gathers the pieces of Patty’s mutilated body and sets his twisted plan into motion.
Jeffrey needs some fresh parts to add to the pieces of Elizabeth, so armed with a “special” drug Jeffrey makes his way over the bridge and into Manhattan where he lines up a party of hookers. All he has to do is pick the best parts of each girl. No problem, right? The party swings into high gear but Jeffrey begins to have doubts about what he’s doing. It’s too late, however as the hookers,...

Frank Henenlotter’s Frankenhooker hits Blu-Ray this week and we are proud to get an advance look at the Blu-Ray. For those of you that were actually around when video stores were around, you might remember this film not because of the title of the name of the film but probably because of the cover art and, for some of you lucky few, the audio activated button on the front that said “Wanna Date?” Previously released on DVD by Unearthed Films, Synapse brings us the high-definition release of Henenlotter’s early 90′s entry of comedic horror.
Frankenhooker stars James Lorinz (Street Trash) as Jeffery Franken, a medical school reject whose fiancee, played by Penthouse Pet Patty Mullen, is horribly killed in a accident by the hands of one of his creations – a remote controlled lawnmower. Feeling responsible for her death, Jeffery decides to use his knowledge of science to good...

Synapse are on the ball once again. Having already lined up a Blu-ray release for Maniac Cop and the recently released The Exterminator they now bring us Frankenhooker. Frank Henenlotter, who also gave us the terrific Basket Case and Brain Damage movies, directed Frankenhooker back in 1990 so this is going to be a treat for fans of HD sleaze when it hits on November 8th.

I will always remember standing in my local video store in front of their horror section and pressing the button on the box of Frankenhooker 100's of times just to hear it screech "Wanna Date?" Good times! If only Synapse Films can find a way to have their upcoming Blu-ray of the flick do that!
