"Halloween Kills" might be one of the weaker installments in the long-running "Halloween" franchise, but one of its stars is anything but. The new book "Halloween: The Official Making of Halloween, Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends" includes a whole bunch of great behind-the-scenes stories about the new trilogy's production, including one about "Halloween Kills" actor Kyle Richards. Richards, a former child actress who is perhaps now best known as a castmate on "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," played Michael Myers survivor Lindsey in the recent David Gordon Green movie (a role she originated in the 1978 classic), and apparently went above and beyond when it came to the film's stunt scenes.
In one scene, according to Abbie Bernstein's book, Richards was tasked with smacking the seemingly invincible killer known as The Shape with a sack of foam meant to be a stand-in for a bag of bricks. The foam...

John Carpenter, perhaps true to his name, is a workmanlike director. He doesn't possess any outwardly striking, signature aesthetic habits or camera tricks that one may call "Carpenterian." However, he still possesses a subtle mastery of the craft that is uniquely his. He simply knows where to place a camera to most effectively get a shot, shoots it, and moves on. He is practical with no pretenses toward being an artist. This is the man who, at a horror convention, was once asked how he felt about other filmmakers remaking his movies and running the risk of tainting his original artistic vision. Carpenter said that he actually loves it when others remake his movies because he gets money without having to work. His philosophy to remakes is one of "pay me."

David Gordon Green's 2018 film "Halloween," which picks up the story of Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and slasher icon Michael Myers decades after the events of John Carpenter's original 1978 "Halloween," comes to an end when three generations of Laurie's family -- Laurie; her daughter, Karen (Judy Greer); and her granddaughter, Allyson (Andi Matichak) -- trap Michael in the basement of Laurie's home and ultimately burn it to the ground, thinking they killed him in the process. (Spoiler alert: They did not actually kill him.)
But that ending wasn't what the filmmakers initially cooked up. In the new book "Halloween: The Official Making of Halloween, Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends," author Abbie Bernstein spoke with several of the key creatives behind the making of the movie and got some details about what the initial ending would have included. David Gordon Green's 2022 slasher film "Halloween Ends" is an unusual entry in the series in many ways. In it, the vicious masked serial killer Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney) has been living in a sewer and stays out of the film's central action for the bulk of its running time. "Ends," instead, focuses largely on a character named Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell), a man who, two years ago, accidentally killed the young boy he was babysitting. Green envisioned Corey's hometown town of Haddonfield, Illinois as a bitter and wounded place, full of spiteful, hurt people who cannot heal from the murderous damage that Michael caused way back in 1978, as well as his return in 2018. Every citizen is bitter, angry, and paranoid. Corey is bullied and picked on, unable to outlive his mistake.
When Corey wanders into Michael's sewer (he was fleeing bullies), he finds Michael and a strange transference occurs.

Perhaps the most intensely discussed horror reboot of the 21st century is David Gordon Green's "Halloween." With a 79% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and a 72% audience score, it seems like most of the intended crowd for the slasher legacyquel walked away satisfied, so Universal Pictures quickly put two more sequels on its calendar. Unfortunately, "Halloween Kills" was a drastic step down, earning only a 39% critics score. Sure, the audience score only dropped a bit to 66%, but when you're dedicated to the franchise, you're bound to be fairly pleased with whatever you get. "Halloween Ends" didn't fare much better, with just a 40% from critics, and a steeper drop to 57% from fans, officially taking it into rotten territory on both counts.
It's that last movie that has sparked some debate among longtime "Halloween" fans, with some appreciating the bold new direction that Green takes the franchise by making new character Corey Cunningham...

In John Carpenter's 1978 film "Halloween," the masked killer Michael Myers was played by multiple actors. For the bulk of his scenes, Michael — called "The Shape" — was played by Nick Castle, a film school friend of Carpenter's and a director in his own right. Castle also directed "The Last Starfighter" and "The Boy Who Could Fly." As a small boy, Michael Myers was played, in one scene, by an actor named Will Sandin in his first and last role on screen. In Pov shots, the hands of young Michael were provided by co-writer and producer Debra Hill, while the unmasked Michael — who appears only briefly at the very end of the movie — was played by Tony Moran.
Castle had the lion's share of screen time, however, and is generally thought of as the "official" Michael Myers by "Halloween" fans the world over. Castle would reprise the role for David Gordon Green...

When it comes to horror franchises the Halloween series is a bit like Chewbacca; it doesn’t make a lot of sense narratively unless you really understand what is going on. That’s right, you just heard a Star Wars reference in a video about a Halloween movie. Just roll with it… Technically the Halloween films are four different stories and one one-off tale told over the course of thirteen films, if my math is right away. Only one of these narrative shifts seems to have been done for creative reasons while the rest were undertaken in an effort to continue the series and make more money from the Halloween brand. If this sounds cynical to you,...

Stars like James Jude Courtney are quite rare. It’s not common to be a movie actor, stunt double, and stunt performer at the same time. Taking into consideration his age, amongst other things, James Jude Courtney is simply brilliant. Born on the 31st of January 1957 in Garfield Heights, Ohio, his determination to be an actor took him to California, where he currently lives. Although most of his best work is from ’90s Hollywood movies, his recent work is still quite amazing. Courtney’s story, much like most others in his profession, is less of luck and more of hard work,...

There's always a villain in a horror film. They supply story conflict, forcing our protagonists to face their own death and rise victorious. Sometimes, villains are cloaked in everyday life as your next-door neighbor, a 9-year-old child, or the family pet. Other times, villains assume the shape of supernatural entities, malevolent forces, or otherworldly beings transported from a different dimension. For every masked serial killer, a vampire ventures out for blood and a ghost causes mayhem in someone's attic.
In 2022, several villains stole the show in otherwise lackluster films and still others stood head and shoulders above their competition. But who are the most powerful villains of the bunch? A lot of moments that didn’t make it into the theatrical cut of director David Gordon Green’s Halloween Ends were used to promote the film, with one of the most prominent examples being images that showed an extended version of the attack on the character Joan, Corey’s mom, who was played by Joanne Baron. Now that Halloween Ends is available on both digital and physical media, we decided to share the extended scene clip that shows the full attack on Joan.
At least this scene made it into the special features. The extended cut of the death of Susan the radio receptionist is nowhere to be found.

Jamie Lee Curtis is synonymous with "Halloween." Across seven films, out of a whopping 13 in the franchise, Curtis has breathed life into Laurie Strode—the archetype for the Final Girl. She's intuitive, strong, and capable. In each encounter with The Boogeyman, she resolves to survive and seeks to put evil six feet under the ground. From her debut appearance in the 1978 original film to David Gordon Green's "Halloween Ends," Curtis commanded the screen with rich, depth-shattering performances. She plunged into the darkest recesses of the human condition to carve out a character that defines what it means to be strong and resilient amidst crisis.

Fans had expectations going into Halloween Ends (read our review Here). Given the title and the fact that this was hyped up to be the last time Jamie Lee Curtis will ever play the role of franchise heroine Laurie Strode, it seemed sensible to assume that the movie was going to focus on the final showdown between Laurie and masked slasher Michael Myers – who has killed many people around her over the years. Friends, acquaintances, and even her own daughter. But Halloween Ends has very little to do with the final battle between Laurie and Michael – and director David Gordon Green says it was never going to be focused on that.

The final film of the David Gordon Green Halloween reboot trilogy has fans of the franchise divided and the director of the slasher is explaining the creative decisions he made for Halloween Ends.
Some of the criticism that the horror flick received was that Laurie Strode and Michael Myers, played by Jamie Lee Curtis and James Jude Courtney, respectively, were not featured in what is supposed to be their final showdown after 44 years.
“We had to decide how we wanted to wrap up these characters. How do we want to make it not just a nice, neat bow on a franchise? Honestly, we never once considered making a Laurie and Michael movie,” Green told Movie Maker. “The concept that it should be a final showdown-type brawl never even crossed our minds. I wanted to see where it would go. I wanted one to win, one to die. But we were always more ambitious with that.

With the release of Halloween Ends (read our review Here) in theatres and on the Peacock streaming service, Halloween fans have been delivered another divisive entry in the franchise. Some love it, some hate it. Some have even put together a petition demanding the movie be reshot entirely. After four years and three films, David Gordon Green's "Halloween" sequel trilogy has finally come to an end. One year after Michael's 2018 rampage throughout Haddonfield, Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell) is a nice, if slightly nerdy, young man who's babysitting a child named Jeremy (Jaxon Goldenberg). While playing a prank, Jeremy accidentally dies, and the town turns against Corey. With Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney) nowhere to be found, he essentially becomes Haddonfield's new boogeyman. The majority of "Halloween Ends" follows Corey three years later as he struggles to move on with his life. In the week leading up to Halloween, Corey begins a relationship with Laurie Strode's granddaughter, Allyson (Andi Matichak), and runs afoul of Michael Myers, who sends him down a dark path of murder and revenge.
"Halloween Ends" fulfills the promise of its title and provides both a definitive death for Michael and a happy conclusion to Laurie's story.

Warning: The below article contains spoilers for "Halloween Ends."
"Halloween Ends" is finally here. Fans are already taking to their keyboards to debate their conflicting takes on what feels like the most divisive film entry in the franchise since "Halloween III: Season of the Witch." The film takes some big swings and plays with genre expectations, sidelining Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney) to focus on his apprentice-copycat killer, Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell). There are themes of evil infecting Corey and the town, and intriguing supernatural elements teased but left purposefully vague. Will this final chapter earn cult classic status over time or remain a source of fan outrage? Only time will tell. Whether you loved this movie or were disappointed and looking for something to hit the reset button, we've got ten killer slashers you should check out next.

It's up for debate whether or not "Halloween Ends" is going to be the actual end of the "Halloween" franchise. The more recent installments have seen wildly mixed reviews, with passionate stances coming from both sides of the aisle — but if there's one thing "Halloween" fans can agree on, it's their desire for more Michael Myers. That said, it appears that Jame Lee Curtis, our longtime heroine Laurie Strode, isn't the only pivotal cast member who claims she is saying goodbye to the story for good.
Myers actor James Jude Courtney confirmed that "Halloween Ends" would be his last time donning the mask during an interview with ScreenRant published on October 18, 2022. He said:
"You know, [director] David [Gordon Green], and Jamie and I have talked about this, we're done. We're done. I think, for me, to put this character down, Jamie and I were talking on the set towards the end,...

The final installment of David Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy is now playing in theaters and streaming on Peacock, and it’s safe to say that the reaction from fans has been somewhat divisive. Andi Matichak is the horror genre’s newest final girl.
The star of Halloween Ends, as well as the two previous films in David Gordon Green’s Halloween legacy trilogy, had the unique honor of joining the family of final girls alongside the genre’s most celebrated final girl, Jamie Lee Curtis. In the climactic scene of Ends, Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney) was actively squeezing the life out of Curtis’ Laurie Strode until Matichak’s Allyson came to her grandmother’s rescue and broke The Shape’s arm. From there, the duo finished the Haddonfield boogeyman off once and for all as they bled him out and put him through a metal shredder.
For Matichak, it’s virtually impossible to describe the feeling of not only saving Laurie Strode’s life but defeating one of cinema’s most iconic villains in the process.

Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell) is the name on every horror fan's lips right now. He's the surprise, breakout character of David Gordon Green's final chapter in his reboot trilogy, "Halloween Ends." Sure, Green's trilogy might be an uneven, thematically inconsistent set of films, but Green certainly deserves some brownie points for taking large risks in his attempts to innovate the "Halloween" franchise.
In "Ends," the huge risk is centering its story away from just Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney), and exploring Haddonfield's festering anger through a new conduit. Laurie sees something in Corey's eyes, something dark and distant, something evil — not unlike her boogeyman before him. Green makes a large effort to portray Corey's descent into evil through visual parallels with Michael Myers. He stands by the bush and stares at Laurie the way Myers did all those years ago,...

It's a well known fact that the original "Halloween," refers to Michael Myers as "The Shape" in the movie's end credits. It's a fitting description for the character who never utters a single word throughout the entire film. Instead, he lurks in the shadows, kitchen knife in hand, waiting for the right moment to strike. He is less a man and more, quite simply, the embodiment — the shape — of evil itself.
Over the years, many actors (the number varies depending on how technical you want to get here) have donned Michael's iconic mechanic's jumpsuit and repurposed William Shatner mask, making the moniker of "The Shape" a fitting name. But even though Michael's portrayers truly have shape-shifted a lot over time, there is one man whose name is synonymous with the infamous slasher villain: Nick Castle.

To begin with something benign: David Gordon Green's "Halloween Ends," now in theaters and streaming on Peacock, employed an unusual font for its opening titles. As has been discussed in the pages of /Film recently, both John Carpenter's 1978 original and Green's 2018 sequel employed an orange Itc Serif Gothic Heavy font. Both Rick Rosenthal's 1981 sequel "Halloween II," and Green's follow-up "Halloween Kills" uses the same orange on a Standard Ct Ext ExtraBold font. Finally, both Tommy Lee Wallace's 1982 film "Halloween III: Season of the Witch" and Green's "Halloween Ends" feature a more simplified font that looks like Helvetica.
Why is this important? Green clearly had an eye on the entire rocky history of the "Halloween" film series, now on its thirteenth entry. While Green's films follow a particular continuity that ignores all the other films in the franchise with the exception of the first, in very subtle ways,...

Halloween Ends director David Gordon Green has defended the controversial decision to limit Michael Myers’s screen time in the latest horror sequel.
Halloween Ends is the third film in a recent trilogy of sequels to John Carpenter’s 1978 classic Halloween.
As with the previous two entries, 2018’s Halloween and 2021’s Halloween Kills, Halloween Ends brings back the franchise’s iconic villain, Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney), pitting him against the resiliant Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis).
However, some fans of the franchise have complained that Myers and Laurie are sidelined for much of Halloween Ends, with the focus instead shifting to Laurie’s granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) and her love interest, Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell).
One widely circulated social media post claims that Myers is on screen for just 10 minutes and 55 seconds, less than 10 per cent of the film’s total 1 hour and 51 minute runtime.

Billed as the final film in David Gordon Green‘s sequel trilogy, Halloween Ends surely won’t be the last movie in the franchise but it’s likely to be the final time Jamie Lee Curtis returns to do battle with Michael Myers. Not surprisingly, it’s a promise that put asses in the seats over the weekend, with Halloween Ends scaring up 58.4 million worldwide thus far.
Domestically, Halloween Ends made 41.2 million in its opening weekend across 3,901 theaters. That puts Halloween Ends in the #1 spot on the domestic charts this week, and the film is likely to rocket past 100 million worldwide in these next two weeks before Halloween.
For the sake of comparison, Halloween had a domestic opening of 76 million back in 2018, while Halloween Kills opened to 49 million here in the United States just last year.

“Halloween Ends” may be the last we see of Laurie Strode and Michael Myers, but the horror series still kills at the box office. Universal’s slasher finale is off to a strong start, projecting a 43.4 million opening from 3,901 theaters.
Even with “Halloween Ends” receiving a simultaneous streaming debut on Peacock, the film has managed to draw an impressive figure. Though “Ends” will debut slightly beneath initial projections, it will earn more than enough to top weekend charts, sparking some life into what has largely been a muted season for moviegoing. In fact, “Ends” will likely be the first film to open higher than 40 million at the domestic box office since Universal’s “Nope” nearly three months ago.
“Ends” is tracking below last year’s franchise entry, “Halloween Kills,” which earned a 49 million domestic opening in its own day-and-date release. 2018’s “Halloween,” the first entry in this new sequel trilogy...

Over four decades since John Carpenter's seminal horror masterpiece, the "Halloween" series has finally been laid to rest with "Halloween Ends." In the world of slasher movies, labeling something as the "final chapter" is a nice gesture, but these franchises rarely ever stay dead. Although David Gordon Green's conclusion makes it explicitly clear that his Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney), the seemingly immortal villain, has taken a new shape in the form of literal mincemeat after the town exacts its pound of flesh once and for all.
It asks if "Halloween H20" had actually stuck by its ending, rather than disregarding its finality for "Halloween: Resurrection."
In the closing moments of "Halloween Ends," it's implied that Haddonfield, and by extension Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), can finally rest now that Michael has been put to pasture. But for the folks...

Jamie Lee Curtis promised that "Halloween Ends" would live up to the promise of its title: that the movie would end the Halloween franchise, the story of the villainous Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney) and his constant victim, Laurie Strode (Curtis). The new movie was released in theaters and on Peacock on Oct. 14, so now we know if it lived up to that promise. Whether you're a longtime fan who wants to revisit the ending or you're a bit of a horror scaredy cat who just wants to know if Michael Myers is really gone for good, we're breaking it down ahead.
In "Halloween Ends," Michael Myers spends most of the movie in a rat-infested, abandoned sewer. He seems to be in a weakened state, but he can still pull victims in to kill them. When he attacks Corey (Rohan Campbell), however, he doesn't kill him. Instead, through some sort of supernatural power,...

The third film in David Gordon Green‘s Halloween trilogy, Halloween Ends, is treating itself to 5.4M at the box office during Thursday preview screenings. The final confrontation between Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney) opened in 3,200 markets, with showtimes starting at 5 p.m. The Thursday preview screening total for Halloween Ends is 11 more than Halloween Kills, which took home 4.85M in Thursday totals last year.
Analysts expect Halloween Ends to score 55M for its treat bucket during the film’s opening weekend across 3,901 venues. The film reportedly cost 30 million to produce, not accounting for promotional materials and campaigns. The final chapter in Green’s Halloween trilogy also went day-and-date with Peacock on the streamer’s paid subscriber tier. Theoretically, Halloween Ends will garner more subscribers for the service, which needs increased numbers.

After helming the two highest-grossing films in the Halloween franchise, filmmaker David Gordon Green stuck to his guns for his trilogy capper, Halloween Ends. Set four years after the tragic events of Halloween Kills, Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis) introduces a troubled young man named Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell) to her granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak), and despite the best of intentions, Corey and Allyson’s dynamic relationship gradually drives a wedge between the two surviving Strode women. And as expected, Haddonfield boogeyman Michael Myers re-enters the equation at the worst possible time for Laurie and Allyson.

Evil streams tonight. That's right, you won't have to wait much longer to see the epic conclusion of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode's multi-generational feud. That's because "Halloween Ends" is now streaming earlier than expected on Peacock. How exciting!
It being on Peacock the same day as its theatrical release isn't exactly an unexpected surprise. It was announced back in August that "Ends" will follow a similar day-and-date release as last year's "Halloween Kills." However, it being released a few hours earlier is pretty awesome.
David Gordon Green's horror trilogy has received some pretty mixed reception over its duration. The initial response to 2018's "Halloween" was warm, with /Film's Chris Evangelista calling it "a brutal, scary and sometimes funny sequel that gives the long-running franchise the respect and adoration it deserves." However, when "Halloween Kills" came around last year, he criticized it for being "an oddly incomplete sequel" that "feels incredibly rushed,...

This review contains spoilers for “Halloween Ends.”
For a movie hyping itself as the final glimpse of Michael Myers, Halloween Ends has surprisingly little of the man in the William Shatner mask.
Those expecting one last showdown between the Boogeyman and ultimate Final Girl Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) may walk away disappointed, as Halloween Ends takes some narrative risks that might anger fans. But those willing to go with it and forgive an overstuffed plot might walk away slightly more satisfied. Like all of David Gordon Green’s entries in this series, Halloween Ends is a mess, but for the first time in the trilogy, it puts its pretensions on the back burner and lets itself have a bit of fun.
