Film Unlimited in Hong Kong has revealed the first look teaser trailer for a new Hk action film called Rob N Roll, from filmmaker Albert Mak. This is set to open in Hong Kong cinemas in January 2024, though no other international dates have been announced. Hong Kong pop star Aaron Kwok plays the lead character - a bucktoothed professional wrestler and robber who plans a major heist. The heist goes haywire when he meets two disillusioned middle-aged men. Gordon Lam co-stars as a taxi driver who unintentionally foils the heist, along with his friend played by Richie Jen. The trio ends up on the run from the cops and other criminals out to find them. The film's cast also includes Maggie Cheung Ho-yee, Nancy Wu, Lam Suet, Leung Chung-hang, and Calvert Fu. This is a quick teaser with just a few glimpses of the action to whet our appetites. It doesn't look so bad,...

Punished Directed by: Law Wing Cheong Written by: Chi Keung Fung Starring: Anthony Wong, Richie Jen, Janice Man, Maggie Cheung Ho Yee Punished is another entry in the revenge genre that continues in its ongoing popularity. A kidnapping occurs with the film non-linearly unraveling the mystery of who is involved. Although there are a few depictions of brutal violence, this film concerns itself mainly with the psychological toll on the perpetrator of revenge. An interesting change is that the physical revenge is performed by a hired-hand of the victim's father. Some people expecting an action film will likely find the character scenes rather bland, but I thought they were interesting in the context of the mystery of revealing who was involved in the kidnapping. The violence is not stylized at all. There are rough and tumble fights rather than wire-work martial arts. And the gunfights are straight ahead "keep shooting until you get shot" matches.

“The Fortune Buddies” is the latest big screen outing from Tvb and Shaw Brothers, following up on their successful “72 Tenants of Prosperity” and “I Love Hong Kong”. Produced as usual by Eric Tsang and directed by studio regular Chung Sue Kie, who was also recently responsible for the comedy “Adventure of the King”, the wacky film revolves around Louis Yuen, Wong Cho Lam and Johnson Lee, famed for their Tvb comedy sketch program “Fun with Liza And Gods” as three down on their luck men who end up becoming wrestlers. As well as a supporting cast that includes Fiona Sit (“The Way we Were”), Maggie Cheung (“Punished”), Hong Kong veteran Pauline Wong and Tsang himself, the film unsurprisingly packs in a huge number of cameos, including, but not limited to Michael Tse, King Kong, Richard Ng, Lam Suet, Tin Kai Man and Bosco Wong. Louis Yuen, Wong Cho Lam and Johnson Lee play Fook Yuen,...
