Last year, "Star Trek: The Motion Picture - The Director's Edition" was released on home media. The new version of the sci-fi classic was described as director Robert Wise's "definitive vision" for the big screen adaptation of the TV series, and it was given a restored and remastered 4K Ultra HD release with Hdr-10 and Dolby Vision for optimal picture and Dolby Atmos for immersive sound. Along with the new cut of the film came an updated version of Jerry Goldsmith's astounding score, and now, in honor of Star Trek Day (that's today!), that soundtrack is finally being released on vinyl.
Mondo and Enjoy the Ride Records are releasing a variety of limited edition vinyl soundtracks for "Star Trek: The Motion Picture - The Director's Edition," which has the film's music restored, remixed, and mastered from the first-generation multi-track masters by Bruce Botnick, the original album's executive producer and Goldsmith's long-time engineer.

John Densmore vividly remembers the words longtime Doors producer Paul A. Rothchild used to describe “Riders on the Storm”: “cocktail music.” “When he heard it, it was in an early rehearsal and it hadn’t evolved into what it became,” the drummer says of the dramatic track, a cowboy ghost story set to haunting rain and thunder. “But it really is one of our most important songs.”
The full story of the track will finally be told in an upcoming, 50th-anniversary box set reissue of L.A. Woman, the...

The Doors have shared an exclusive excerpt from their upcoming biographical comic, Morrison Hotel, which captures the moments leading up to the band’s infamous March 1st, 1969 show at the Dinner Key Auditorium in Miami. The book, which is being published by Z2 Comics, was also given a new release date of March 16th (pre-order here).
The pages find the Doors — well, at least everyone except the conspicuously absent Jim Morrison — marveling at the way-bigger-than-expected crowd that’s packed into the venue. As a newly bearded Morrison hops on a...

At this point, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ governors election looks more like a round-up than a race; more than 180 members have declared their interest in filling 17 contested spots on the 54-member Board of Governors.
Voting in the run-off round starts on Monday and ends May 18. That will narrow the present field to a maximum of four nominees per branch in the final round, which follows.
For now, there are on average about 11 candidates in the running for each slot. In the casting directors and costume design branches, only three members have declared for each slot. But not so in the actors branch, where 17 members — including Brie Larson, Jacki Weaver and Meg Ryan — are vying for the spot being vacated by termed-out Tom Hanks; or the producers, executives, and public relations branches, all of which have a bumper crop of candidates. Marvin Levy, currently a governor in the public relations branch,...

Yes, it's true. The Doors have a new song out. And it features vocals by frontman Jim Morrison, who died in 1971. How is this possible? Well, "She Smells So nice" was discovered by producer Bruce Botnick, who co-produced the band's album "L.A. Woman" just months before Morrison's death.
Botnic was listening to the original studio session tapes while working on a project remastering the album. And he found the previously-unreleased song. "She Smells So Nice" is in the player below, and also on the band's Facebook page. It's pretty cool.
The song is also available on the two-disc reissue of "L.A. Woman," which also includes eight alternate versions of the band's hits. This remastering of the classic album will be available Jan. 24, 2012.

London, Oct 17 – A music moghul and a technician have revealed one of the craziest nights of The Doors tragic star Jim Morrison when he destroyed a recording studio.
The group was recording its self-titled debut in 1966 at Sunset Sound in Hollywood when the rocker dropped acid after a long studio session and returned to put out an imaginary fire, reports fashion.ie.
‘He had an epiphany. He came back to the studio, thinking we were still there, but couldn’t get into the control room. He turned over the ashtrays, then emptied the fire extinguisher because he thought they were on fire,’ said engineer Bruce Botnik.

NEW YORK -- Marking the 41st anniversary of the release of the Doors' classic self-titled album are several band-related projects already in shops and on the horizon. Tops on the list is an untitled documentary that will chronicle the group's career.
"We have plans for a big Doors documentary film in the works," Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek said. "I saw the first cut of it yesterday, and it's looking real good. But that won't be out 'til another six months."
Although Manzarek is keeping a tight lip on specifics about the documentary, he did confirm that it would feature a large amount of rare footage. "Absolutely -- that's the whole point of it. Never before seen! This is the anti-Oliver Stone (referring to Stone's 1991 film, The Doors). This will be the true story of the Doors."
Already out is a Classic Albums DVD from Eagle Rock that focuses on the Doors' aforementioned 1967 debut. "Everybody's there -- Densmore, Manzarek, Krieger, Bill Siddons, Bruce Botnick."...
