Los Angeles and London-based management and production company 42 has acquired Ob Management, an integrated director management and production firm for commercials and music videos.
Ob founder Otis Bell will stay on to helm the company alongside COO Frida Nilsson. The company will be rebranded as “Ob/42” and continue to operate as a distinct entity within the 42 group. 42 bosses Marc Allen, Josh Varney and Ben Pugh will sit on the board of Ob/42 going forward.
The acquisition includes Probation — which Bell co-founded in 2011 with Matt Davey — a photo agency representing top photographers working in advertising, music and entertainment, which sits alongside Ob Management. It will also include Ob’s U.S. office, Obsidian/Reprobates, headed up by EP Anna Heinrich, which will be consolidated and rebranded under the Ob/42 name as a global identity.
The deal continues 42’s ongoing expansion, which includes the recent hire of former Netflix and Tiger Aspect Productions...

Stranger Things star Jamie Campbell Bower recalled how he bombed his Harry Potter audition by telling a Nsfw joke.
Bower rose to fame earlier this year when he starred as the villainous Vecna in the fourth season of Netflix’s hit sci-fi series.
During a recent appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Bower recalled a significant misstep he made in an audition for the 2001 film Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
Bower, 33, was a teenager when he met with the film’s producer Chris Columbus. He was going up for the titular role of Harry Potter, which famously went to Daniel Radcliffe.
The actor was asked to prepare a joke for his audition.
“I had just heard this joke about a fairy, like, the reason why the fairy sits on top of the Christmas tree. And it’s a really, like, dirty joke, because it’s about...

Afternoon Insiders, Max Goldbart here. I’m headed to Banff on Sunday for the World Media Fest but before I go, here’s our digest of the week’s biggest news and analysis.
Disney France Woes
Fermez la fenêtre: A fierce argument has broken out as the deep-pocketed U.S. streamers delve deeper and deeper into Europe’s production ecologies and Disney+ was taking no prisoners this week. France has long been the battleground for arguments around local streamer activity and regulation and it was Disney’s decision to bypass the recently revised French windowing system with animated action adventure Strange World, shifting it straight to Disney+, which caused consternation in cinematic circles. In a strongly-worded statement to Deadline, a studio spokesperson described the French windowing system, which was recently revised to allow Netflix to take films after 15 months rather than 36 in return for more spend in the nation, as “cumbersome” and “anti-consumer.

Exclusive: Screen Gems has made its choice: Jamie Campbell Bower will get the male lead in The Mortal Instruments, the Scott Charles Stewart-directed adaptation of the Cassandra Clare novel series. He'll play Jace Wayland, starring alongside Lily Collins, who'll play the lead heroine Clary Fray. She has The Sight, and can see both demons and Shadowhunters. Jace is one of the best of the latter. When Clary's mother is abducted, she is forced to learn about her bloodline and abilities in order to get her mother back. Clare's series is comprised of six novels and is expected to launch a franchise. The role has been considered a potential star-making vehicle for an actor, and there has been much speculation on who'll get it. I'm told the deal is being made now for Bower, who is best known for playing King Arthur in the TV series Camelot, and for playing...
