1. Accidental Love (2015)

PG-13 | 100 min | Comedy, Romance

20 Metascore

A small town waitress gets a nail accidentally lodged in her head causing unpredictable behavior that leads her to Washington, D.C., where sparks fly when she meets a clueless young senator who takes up her cause - but what happens when love interferes with what you stand for?

Director: David O. Russell | Stars: Jessica Biel, Ray Brown, Jenny Gulley, Beverly D'Angelo

Votes: 9,129

Despite what I heard about Nailed! (also known as Accidental Love), I had an interest in the film because it's director is David O. Russell. He's that guy that did, you know, all those films nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards the past few years (The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle)! It also has Jake Gyllenhaal as the lead actor! Reason enough to give it a try, right? After watching it, I can see why it had been stuck in development hell since 2008. This film, originally a satire about the concept of free healthcare, became instantly irrelavant when Barrack Obama became President and the whole ObamaCare thing started. So, years down the line, it was finally to be released as a romantic comedy. As a romantic comedy, it is horrendous and far from anything remotely romantic, and does not contain a single laugh. It's more creepy and unsettling than anything. Even as a satire, the film lacks that intellegent touch that any political satire needs to really work. It's just a bad movie, bad in every way, and it would have not mattered what time it was released in; it doesn't work. The poor acting, silly dialogue, and mundane pacing bring the quality down a lot of notches. It all comes down to something that never should have been made. It serves no purpose, not as entertainment, not as political satire, not as anything. This film should not exist, and perhaps the studios should have kept it that way. I suppose a lesson can be learned that even an established director like David O. Russell can make one of the worst movies ever made. His name is changed for the directing credit, but don't let that fool you; this is his abomination. Truly the worst film of 2015.

2. Hot Tub Time Machine 2 (2015)

R | 93 min | Comedy, Mystery, Sci-Fi

29 Metascore

When Lou's shot in the groin, Nick and Jacob drag him in the Hot Tub Time Machine to go back in time and save Lou. The three end up 10 years in the future, where they need to go to find the shooter.

Director: Steve Pink | Stars: Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, Clark Duke, Adam Scott

Votes: 41,666 | Gross: $12.28M

As a fan of the original Hot Tub Time Machine, I gave it a shot. I regretted that decision immediately after the first few minutes. It's not funny, not even in a stupid way. The film lacks laughs, brains and an overall purpose. It's just a cash-in, and you can tell the actors even know that while they're on screen. There's not really any direction to it, and the script is more of a joke than the jokes it tries to make. It's all about the gross moments, rather than the laughs. A farcry from the memorable original, this sequel is further proof that the majority of Hollywood values cash over quality. Thank God there are still people out there who love making great films and money at the same time (J.J. Abrams)!

3. Fantastic Four (2015)

PG-13 | 100 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

27 Metascore

Four young outsiders teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe which alters their physical form in shocking ways. The four must learn to harness their new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

Director: Josh Trank | Stars: Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Bell

Votes: 176,636 | Gross: $56.12M

Fantastic Four is an incomplete film. Literally. There's this jump in it half way through that feels so unnatural and off-putting that the rest of the film crumbles from there. It's as if the two halves were two different movies, neither being all that great to begin with. The film is overall lifeless as well, with a lack of character development, pollished dialogue and convincing performances. You can see the troubled production quite easily in this one. Hopefully this terrible effort will signal Marvel's First Family of superheroes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe where they truly belong.

4. The Gunman (2015)

R | 115 min | Action, Crime, Mystery

39 Metascore

A sniper on a mercenary assassination team kills the minister of mines of the Congo. Terrier's successful kill shot forces him into hiding. Returning to the Congo years later, he becomes the target of a hit squad himself.

Director: Pierre Morel | Stars: Sean Penn, Idris Elba, Jasmine Trinca, Javier Bardem

Votes: 43,396 | Gross: $10.64M

Sean Penn coasts through this poorly written and horrendously directed action film that thinks too highly of itself.

5. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water (2015)

PG | 92 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy

62 Metascore

When a diabolical pirate above the sea steals the secret Krabby Patty formula, SpongeBob and his friends team up in order to get it back.

Directors: Paul Tibbitt, Mike Mitchell | Stars: Tom Kenny, Antonio Banderas, Bill Fagerbakke, Clancy Brown

Votes: 61,168 | Gross: $162.99M

I have no idea who this movie was made for. It couldn't have been made for kids; it's too strange. It couldn't have been made for adults; it's too stupid. It couldn't have been made for stoners; it's an acid-trip enough as it is. Hmmm...

6. San Andreas (2015)

PG-13 | 114 min | Action, Adventure, Thriller

43 Metascore

In the aftermath of a massive earthquake in California, a rescue-chopper pilot makes a dangerous journey with his ex-wife across the state in order to rescue his daughter.

Director: Brad Peyton | Stars: Dwayne Johnson, Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario, Colton Haynes

Votes: 256,781 | Gross: $155.19M

I can appreciate that the filmmakers knew what they were making: a silly action movie, but did they happen to know it was really, really boring?

7. Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 (2015)

PG | 94 min | Action, Comedy, Crime

13 Metascore

After six years of keeping our malls safe, Paul Blart has earned a well-deserved vacation. He heads to Las Vegas with his teenage daughter before she heads off to college. But safety never takes a holiday and when duty calls, Blart answers.

Director: Andy Fickman | Stars: Kevin James, Raini Rodriguez, Eduardo Verástegui, Daniella Alonso

Votes: 41,141 | Gross: $71.04M

I was amused by the first Paul Blart, but wasn't even remotely amused by this half-hearted effort. Like Hot Tub Time Machine 2, it's a sequel that tries to make bank off the successful original, but doesn't put the work in to make something good, or even funny for that matter.

8. The Ridiculous 6 (2015)

TV-14 | 119 min | Action, Adventure, Comedy

18 Metascore

An outlaw who was raised by Native Americans discovers that he has five half-brothers. Together the men go on a mission to find their wayward, deadbeat dad.

Director: Frank Coraci | Stars: Adam Sandler, Terry Crews, Jorge Garcia, Taylor Lautner

Votes: 53,649

Another film that really embraces what it is, and still really sucks! Perhaps better than a lot of what Adam Sandler is getting out there these days, you can even tell in his performance, that he's given up, like we really should be giving up on him.

9. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 (2015)

PG-13 | 137 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

65 Metascore

Katniss and a team of rebels from District 13 prepare for the final battle that will decide the fate of Panem.

Director: Francis Lawrence | Stars: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson

Votes: 373,467 | Gross: $281.72M

Disjointed, unfocussed, and painfully underwhelming, this conclusion to the solid Hunger Games saga is an exercise in mishandling the source material. To be fair, Mockingjay was never that great of a book, but the film could have been far better. Too much is going on, and because of that, it's hard to care about any of it when it matters most. It's pretty sad when you don't end up feeling a thing for these characters that we've come to know and love. I seriously don't know how they did it, but to me, it felt meaningless and shallow. In the end, the focus never feels like it's where it should be, and that hurts what could have been an epic and emotional conclusion to this huge franchise. What began with a bang, ends in a small whimper.

10. Taken 3 (2014)

PG-13 | 108 min | Action, Adventure, Crime

26 Metascore

Accused of a ruthless murder he never committed or witnessed, Bryan Mills goes on the run and brings out his particular set of skills to find the true killer and clear his name.

Director: Olivier Megaton | Stars: Liam Neeson, Forest Whitaker, Maggie Grace, Famke Janssen

Votes: 204,144 | Gross: $89.26M

With a bad story, terrible direction, and unbelievably awful editing, this is hopefully the last nail in the coffin for this franchise. As a big fan of the first film, it's sad to see the quality get worse and worse with each sequel, and that the filmmakers simply refuse to up their game. I'll choose to ignore the sequels even existed; that first movie is just great!
