She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
Disappointing results to a unique character opportunity
It's a little disappointing going back to earlier marvel projects taking things a bit more seriously with ramifications from each film leading towards a bigger picture. And then there is she hulk that doesn't take anything seriously and completely goes nowhere except off the rails in its finale. I will keep things spoiler free here but again compare what we had to what we currently have in the art of storytelling objectively.
I really think there was a special story that could have been told representing super heroes or villains but for me this wasn't it.
If you as a viewer who enjoyed she hulk I'm happy for you but for me seeing any "attorney at law" it's just not satisfying in the way it is handled.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Who is this for?
This isn't for people who like the Star Trek lore or care about the universe so who was this made for? Because obviously you are character assassinating the Picard we know and that's established from TNG. The characters introduced around Picard are also flat uninteresting and at times hilariously out of place like the last episode of season two I won't go into spoilers. Just save your time maybe watch Star trek new worlds because I hear that one is better so far 2 episodes in.
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 4: The Gathering Storm (2022)
Missed opportunities
This episode struggles again with our bumbling side character boba stating he doesn't want to work for idiots anymore. Boba then proceeds to stick his entire ship nearly into the sarlaac pit... great plan boba then proceeds to tell fennec not to touch his buttons in the ship when she saved both of them by dropping that bomb in the pit. For a show centered around a bounty Hunter and the dark underworld of the Star Wars universe everything is too clean and soft. It's sad to see these shows are not catered for fans of the original trilogy and we as the customers deserve better.
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
subversions that didn't age well
What could've been...
This film wanted to be different obviously. The problem is most of your audience was setup for the characters of the past but had little to no impact on the story overall. If you completely skip this film and watch episodes 7 and 9 and imagine luke and snoke died of heart attacks then you didn't miss much. Episode 9 even try's to rectify the issues of this film and just becomes a jumbled mess because of it. No one can relate to the main hero who is completely perfect with no flaws and doesn't fail. They learn nothing and in the end just do anything and everything. The tones are all over the place especially the ending when the resistance/rebels are down to about 20 people on the falcon. The galaxy refused to come to their aid and everyone on the ship is in a great mood? Why? Who thought that was a perfect tone? There is many issues like this throughout. This film does not age well after episode 9 and does not feel like a cohesive story with this installment in the middle. But hey well done Rian at least you subverted expectations...
Until episode 9 happened.
