San Andreas (2015)
Buy a big box of popcorn
The featured reviewer must be very confused. This is not Gone with the Wind or Henry V.
This is NOT a literary exercise its a disaster movie. It is meant to entertain and it does this in spades in my book. Nobody made this film expecting a bag full of Oscars.
Iit is however in my book as good if not better than the average disaster movie
The sight of lots of people falling from the top floors wasn't enough for bloodlust? You know people are dying but fi you really want to spend half thr run time watching dead people????
The special effects are exceptionally well dine and are what the story needs.
All in all a bit of escapist fun.
ENJOY.
Shetland: Episode #5.6 (2019)
A police state?
Whilst I enjoy watching the series, mostly down to the excellent cast of the police force , I am beginning to wonder if PACE never got to the shetland islands. Officers wander down to the cells for an off the record chat with prisoners. People are pldetained in cells without belts and shoe laces being removed. Interviews are conducted without benefit of legal advice or recordings. Pèrez seems to disregard ALL rules of evidence and completely ignores the Fiscal as he decides who to charge or not to charge without reference to the Fiscal or any injured party.
This does not make it any the less watchable but it does seem that the writer is playing fast and loose with the law.
Even in Shetland!
Border Security: Australia's Front Line (2004)
Border Farce
Thi programme itself is quite well made but tends to think its viewers are under the age of ten and so go into ridiculous and annoying repetition.
What does stand out is the over aggressive pursuit of drug mules. It seems that as soon as an officer suspects ANY passenger of being involved in drugs they go all the way to prove their beliefs.
The officers all seem to have been trained in the art of belittling people and intimidation.
This is a brilliant advertisement for NOT going to Australia.
They should check out Americas Gatekeepers to see how it's done.
Endeavour: Terminus (2021)
Endeavour? Must try harder.
Both Morse and Lewis maintained their credibility right to the end.
Endeavour has sadly slipped from enthralling and complex to banal and mundane. The previous episode piled coincidence upon coincidence until even the dumbest copper would have spotted the culprit.
This one TERMINUS just got itself lost somewhere between Ten Little Indians and it's a Mad Mad Mad World.
It was full of every cliche character from the period so much so even on the busses looked dramatic in comparison. The script was lame, the plot laughable and Shan Evans must have been drunk to accept this one.
As ever Alam Rigby Lesser and Bradshaw were excellent in their performances. The rest should all be on the last bus to Woodstock!
