Petta (2019)

Somewhat dull. No Superstar,

First half of the movie was dull. Second half was acceptable. The movie is too long winded. No comedy. Plot was dull. There was a plot twist in the second half, you can see it coming, but it was so lame, and the same actress was playing a different person in a different time period.

Overall it wasn't entertaining enough. Rajni is too old already, movements too slow, dance moves very simple, no make up on the arms, face like 40 year old but hands like 60 year old. I didn't see Superstar Rajni, but a movie that was taking advantage of a veteran actor just for his name.

I'd rate it just slightly better than Kaala. Far from Kabali. No match against Sivaji The Boss.

Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)

Movie for all to see

The story has been "Hollywoodized" and is not just for Queen fans. Even if you have never heard of Queen, this would be an entertaining movie.

Only disappointment is that the timeline of events is off. Apparently to fit it all into the movie.

Chekka Chivantha Vaanam (2018)

Good and entertaining movie. Go see it.

One of the best Tamil movies to be released recently.

Entertaining throughout the whole movie. Decent amount of comedy and not overly done. Story line is good. Not predictable like some other movies.

Way better than the other movie I saw - Saamy 2.

Saamy Square (2018)

Not bad. Not memorable.

It's an OK movie, but not as good as the first. Nothing memorable. Story is somewhat similar to the first - police hunting down gang leader. Good enough as a pastime.

Heroine, no match to Trisha. Comedian, no match to Vivek.

Vikram is a bit out of shape, but it's impossible for a 52 year old man to look like a 28 year old. Passable as someone in late 30s but definitely not 28.

Johnny English Strikes Again (2018)

Not like MrBean. At the line between funny and boring.

Somewhat similar to the previous Johnny English movies. This time it's less funny. And what was supposed to be funny is so predictable. It's an OK movie to watch. Not good, not too bad. Kinda like Hangover 3, in the sense that it's not outstanding.

The Nun (2018)

Dull. Nothing like Conjuring.

This was quite a dull movie, with almost no scary moments. This is nothing like conjuring.

The worst part is how they try to force comedy, science fiction/fantasy, and horror into this movie, and it just doesn't work. Some parts of the movie feels like Michael Jackson's Thriller ripoff. And The Nun does the Smooth Criminal lean at one scene.

It's on the same level as Annabelle 2014. Annabelle 2017 is better than this movie.

It's not a good movie. This is something we have to accept.

Kaala (2018)

Not your usual Rajni movie

By comparison the script of the movie is more like Lingaa. Overall this movie fares lower than Lingaa. Lingaa had comedy to make it better. This movie is just average. The same theme was repeated throughout the movie and the short story line stretched for too long.

Maybe the movie is more of a documentary or to send a message to the local Indian communities, but as a movie to entertain the audience, it falls short. I did not see SUPERSTAR Rajni in the movie, just an ordinary actor.

For comparison, my ratings for some of Rajni's movies as below.

Sivaji - 10 stars Lingaa - 7 stars Kabali - 8 stars

Truth or Dare (I) (2018)

Quite Alright. Like "I Know What You Did Last Summer"

Similar feel to "I Know What You Did Last Summer" but obviously with different plot. It's no scary movie, but a thriller.

Diya (2018)

Watcheable, nothing spectacular

Not your average Tamil movie. Does not have songs, dance and violence. It's not even scary, not sure if it was meant to be. This is more like a drama. Not a bad movie, just nothing spectacular.

The 3rd Eye (2017)

It's alright

Don't listen to the other guy above giving it a 1 star. The acting is fine. CGI is bad at some scenes though. Many jump scares, and it's good. Good plot. Too bad if haunted houses are "old and boring" for you. Overall it's an OK movie, not bad by any means.

Incident in a Ghostland (2018)

Not a ghost movie.

Don't let the title deceive you. This is not a ghost movie like "Conjuring". This is more like "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "Hostel"

For comparison, I give only 5 stars for "A Quiet Place" in regards to 'horror'. Ghostland is way better than "A Quiet Place".
