First off, I am a big fan of the Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield. Thinking that I would get something in between with Quarantine, I was wrong. The movie is shot from one pov camera. While at times bwp and cf camera-work was dark, lowlit, and shaky to bring realism to its documentary feel, Q just feels like a generic rip off. I can handle low lights and shaky camera work, but at least give the viewers a chance for suspense to be created.
The story lacks suspense and scares. The story is bland and unrealistic. The acting while Jay Hernandez and Jennifer Carpenter are usually respectable, really fall flat. This movie will have you laughing much like an Evil Dead movie without the intended humor. The characters aren't very likable and you find youself rooting for their demise. The end, even the big payoff lacks and it is never explained why.
It really is a been there done that film which has no real surprises and borderline poor acting, with major plot holes. You will be checking your watch waiting to get out of the theater. Please put it on your netflix cue but don't spend money on this.
