Flawed but still good
14 January 2024
I don't understand all the hate for this movie. No it is not a masterpiece, but I found it to be perfectly watchable. I went into this without any expectations and was pleasantly surprised. It's not without it's flaws, it was probably made on a small budget by people who love movies (which I like - those are sometimes the best movies to watch) but it still had some really good gut-punch scenes in it, two that come to mind, without giving anything away, towards the end. That's where this film really gains it's momentum. It was suspenseful, the main characters were good.

I don't know what else I can say.

Nihilistic nonsense
17 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This film was frustrating on every level. I have more questions than answers. Like, why did those guys think playing with their dad's guns was a good idea? Or what the heck was that kid doing creeping around in the backyard? I get he was trying to return a phone, but did he NOT hear the gunfire coming from back there? Illogical choice even for a kid. The way they they acted after they realized they killed the boy was infuriating. Only one of the four seemed to show any remorse. They lied to the boy's mother when she asked if they've seen her son. Bad decision after bad decision. This film portrays teenage boys as heartless & stupid, which is simply not the case.

Ugh. Just ugh.

Heartbreaking.

Warning: Spoilers
Vivian was such a beautiful, elegant woman. He had such a lovely family and he chose to ruin it it. I can't believe Johnny Cash left her for that June Carter woman, who really was not all that pretty. It was very selfish & short-sighted of him to do that and I hope he regretted it later on. I always thought he was overrated as a musician anyway, but this just makes me not like him at all. Leaves wife & kids for coworker- such a sad cliche. And I felt Vivian's anger about June calling her daughters "her kids" . Who the hell did that woman think she was? Ugh! This doc was wonderful but it made me angry.

People should've listened

Back in the late 1970's, Johnny Rotten from the Sex Pistols tried to tell in an interview that Jimmy Savile was shady and "had secrets". He was ignored & banned from BBC radio, while Savile went on to sexually abuse kids for 30+ more years. It's maddening!

The hilarious fish sticks scene alone makes this obscure film worth watching. You might recognize young Anthony Rapp (Tony from Dazed & Confused). Drew is always good.

Unexpected little gem.

This quirky, obscure slasher flick (?) is a must see for Karen Black and/or Kevin Corrigan fans. I discovered this on Tubi, so I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting much. I was very pleasantly surprised.

Awful Normal (2004)

Wtf?
12 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Their own father showered with his small daughters & let them fondle him? That's not normal. Who does that? They brushed it off as "the way it was in those times", which is utter nonsense. I grew up in the 1970's too, and my dad didn't do that. Why are they not angry with their dad, when he was clearly a pedophile, too? What he did was probably way more damaging to them than what Alan did! More questions than answers. This film was confusing & obnoxious.

This movie isn't meant to be taken seriously. Sit back & enjoy it for what it is: entertainment. It's Nick Cage, for Christ's sake. How can you not like it?

It was good to see Craig Scheffer still alive though. I thought that guy died like 20 years ago.

I admit, I wasn't sure what to expect with this, not being a huge fan of remakes & spin-offs. I've always been a big believer in "leave the classics alone". But here I am, on season 2, episode 1. I'm surprised by how much I like this. It doesnt hurt that Billy Zabka and Ralph Macchio are still adorable. Lol.

Nothing special or original, but it was entertaining. The redneck mom was kind of funny. The ending was a tad ridiculous.

I really liked this movie

I had no idea what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. There's a cool twist that you start to figure out about halfway through. Its far fetched, but so what. It held my attention and I was glad that I watched it after it was over. I can't say that about every film.

I liked this film

My favorite character was Jon's sister. She spoke only one time during the whole movie, and what she said was spot-on. She was by far the most mature, aware person in the film.

The kid had the chance to get away from his stupid, irresponsible, putting-a-man-first mother. He should have stayed on that bus. I would have. Especially after the stupid b!tch tried to get me killed.

What a gut punch. It made my heart hurt, which was most likely the intention of the film.

I got up 1/3 of the way through this and did the dishes. House of 1000 Corpses held my attention. Devil's Rejects held my attention. This one didn't.

That creep record that Liv Tyler was listening to while she was waiting for Scott Speedman to get back with the cigarettes was the scariest thing in the whole film. Why would you listen to that when you're already jumpy & on edge? Out in the middle of nowhere?

Don't understand all the hate.
9 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I kind of liked it. I liked the storyline, and the acting was pretty good. I loved the Pere's Pension building. I've tried finding out the filming location, but with no results. There is one continuity error, though. The part where the laugh comes outside to investigate the breaking glass sound & Lisa sneaks into the building. She ran up many, many stairs, so how did the the laugh have enough time to beat her upstairs & get into disguise as a crazy, ugly person who can't talk? Anyway, I mostly liked it.

I love all of Rob Zombie's films, with the exception of this one. It never explained who that crazy old man and old women were or why they had innocent people kidnapped & killed. More questions than answers.
