Few scenes are silly
28 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The movie has brilliant concept and execution quite decent. But the problems lies in the story. What was the blind girl doing in the pub alone. Why there were nobody in the club other than the two rapists? It was so silly to show one of the rapist in uniform to show that he was a cop. There was no reason why the 11 member team waited 4 long years to take the revenge. When Shivaji goes to the resort for the first time, he tells everything about the owner just by observing the surroundings. Shivaji says that he is an ex commercial pilot, but in the flashback he just looks like a casual theatre artist. Was he really a pilot? Or Does this mean Shivaji's over smartness overshadowed basic background verification a police officer has to perform? Or it was another flaw in the story? Ending is not convincing, as they show that home minister gets convinced to the lame report submitted by the investing officer. Cinematography and editing is excellent, Direction is also good. They should have worked on the story a bit more.

Shouldn't expect more from Darshan's movies
25 April 2021
I was expecting this to be a good movie, as it is written and directed by Tarun Sudhir. I was impressed by his first directorial movie Chowka. But I forgot that it is Darshan's movie. To please his mass fan base the movie compromise on screen play and acting. Movie has mass elements like fights, dance, emotional sequence, big star cast and obviously punching dialogues.. movie started off pretty well. But when the movie dwells on to the past of the protagonist movie becomes disappointing. Darshan's acting is not convincing. Everything becomes obvious. Story is full of loop holes. Only good part of this movie is cinematography. But the director has wrongly used shots like dolly zoom in the movie. Also few shots will remind you of KGF and Avane Sriman Narayana...

Spoilt the plot
30 November 2020
It had a very good plot. But the markets have failed to execute it. Acting is disappointing, I was not convinced with anyone's acting.. felt like it was done by bunch of amateur actors and technicians. To make it look intellectual, they unnecessarily messed up with timelines in the screenplay. Good story, Bad screenplay, worst acting.

Dia (2020)
9/10
a tragic love story told told without any songs nor heavy emotional dialogues.
20 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Such a well crafted story and brilliant direction by K. S. Ashoka. Just like Rakshith Shetty mentioned in his tweet, its a new age Mungarumale. Actors who have played the roles of dia (Kushee) and adi (Pruthvi Ambaar) have done a wonderful job. Background score by Ajaneesh Lokanath gives life to this story. I am going to deep dive hereafter. So if you haven't watched the movie, stop reading this review here and watch the movie on Amazon Prime. Spoiler alert !!!

Movie begins with dia, a 3rd year biotech student who falls in love with Rohit, a first year MTech student. It's love at first sight for her. Dia is introvert, and keeps her feelings with herself as she doesn't have any friends. it's not exclusively told in the movie, but it is conveyed through the various shots, in which you will find her alone not talking to anyone nor being in any group. She struggles to strike a conversation with her love interests and eventually fails to talk to him after multiple attempts. She is shown practicing her lines as she prepares herself to talk to Rohit. This indicates her innocence and the nervousness she is going through. She is also jealous of other girls who are fans of Rohit's pencil sketch. She steals the portraits that he had drawn and put it on college notice board. She somehow gets the courage to talk to him, having an excuse of returning the portraits that went missing. But, she doesn't find him in the collage campus on that day. So she ends up enquiring about him with his classmate and she gets to know that he has left the college and moved to Korea to pursue his career. Dia is sad and is in pain now. As she walks on a corridor, her hands are rubbing to the wall. This is a symbolic shot which the director uses multiple times in the movie to show the pain that Dia is going through.

After three years, Dia is in Mumbai, working in some organisation. One fine day, she is enters her building lift along with other fellow residents of the building and as the lift doors are about to close, she sees someone who looks like Rohit is approaching the lift. Then the lift door opens and its Rohit, She is excited and nervous as well and she again starts practicing her lines to talk to him. She is getting tensed as the number of people in the lift is reducing as it passes through different floors. Now only Dia and Rohit are in the lift and the lift reaches Dia's floor and Dia gets out of the lift without talking to Rohit. But, Rohit calls her and asks her if she is from bangalore, as he remembers seeing her in his collage. Then both gets into conversation and coincidently both are neighbours staying in opposite doors. They become friends and Dia is seen planning her routine so that it coincides with that of Rohit I.e. going for jogging and leaving to office same time as that of Rohit. She is happy now as she is spending her time with the person she fell in love 3 years ago but never spoke to him. But, she sees Rohit with another girl on beach and finds him hugging that girl. Dia's heart is broken and she is in pain again and the symbolic shot comes again. This time dia is rubbing her hands against a wall which has got rough surface and one of her finger starts bleeding. Dia goes to her house and she finds a package left near her door. She finds her portraits made of pencil sketch in a booklet with some texts on it. This portrait has been drawn by Rohit and just like Dia, Rohit also fell in love with her when he saw her in college for the first time. And He comes back from Korea, just for Dia. Even he is also introvert and he was also practicing his lines to talk to Dia and never got the courage to talk to her. Just like Dia, even Rohit used to plan his day, so that he gets to meet to her. Now both of them confess their love for each other and they are happy together.

But, unfortunately both of them mets with a road accident while they were discussing about their marriage plan. When Dia gets her consciousness back, she gets to know that Rohit died in the accident. Dia is in extreme pain and again there is this symbolic shot. This time Dia is rubbing her fist against the same rough wall and her knuckle joints are bleeding. Dia's father sends her to bangalore so that she comes out of this trauma. Dia is so sad that she decides to commit suicide by going under the train. She stands on the railway track with her eyes close and praying to god to give her courage to stay on the railway track. But as the train approaches her she gets a call on her phone and she opens her eyes and gets off the track as she doesn't get enough courage. This call his from Adi, who got her bag from a pick pocketer who snatches her bag while she was on her way to commit suicide. Dia refuses to take the bag from him and keeps her phone switched off. They both happen to meet at a hospital first and then in a cinema hall. Finally Adi connives her to take her bag back. They get into conversation and then they become good friends over a span of time.

Now Dia has come out of her trauma and she has learnt to lead her life with ought Rohit. Dia decides to go back to Mumbai and Adi senses void in his life when he gets to know about that. He confesses his love for Dia to his mother. (Adi is very close to his mother and both share a special bonding, they are like friends and they love each other to no limits). And his mother tells him to propose her, but he denies as he doesn't want to loose her friendship. Then they happen to travel together while Dia;s destination is Mumbai and Adi' destination is Karwar which is on the way to Mumbai. But Dia also gets off at Karwar so that she can spend some more time with her friend. After couple of days she gets a call from her father to come to Mumbai immediately and she prepares to leave. They both realise that they like each other and it is more than friendship, when Dia's train is about to leave. Now both are happy.

Adi comes back to bangalore and Dia is in Mumbai now. As she enters her house there is a shocker waiting for her. Rohit, whom she believed that she lost him in the accident is alive. Her father intentionally lied to her that Rohit is no more, because he had very little chances of survival and he might take years to recover. He didn't wanted his daughter to sacrifice her future by waiting for Rohit's recovery. Now that Rohit has recovered, both the family decides to get them married. Dia informs Adi about her situation and Adi says its right for her to be with Rohit than him. But Adi is not able to come out of his feelings for Dia and he is stuck with that in his life. One day he gets to know that both are getting on a particular day and they will shift to Singapore after marriage. He decides to go see her once before she moves to Singapore. But his mom says he shouldn't go, but he goes against his mom's wish. But Adi dint want to meet her or show his face to her. But because of some circumstance he happens to go and wish Adi and Rohit. Dia's emotions gets disturbed when she sees Adi. Rohit gets to know that Dia is not happy with the wedding and hears her story. Then he tells her to go back to Adi.

Dia comes to Karwar to meet Adi. She gets to know the tragedy that happed with Adi. Adi's mom dies because of heart attack. The doctor informs that if someone was with her at the time of attack she would have survived. Adi is devastated and he feels that he lost his mother because he went to Mumbai. Dia goes in search of Adi, she gets to know that he is in hospital to complete some formalities. But she doesn't find him there. She goes all the places to look for him but she doesn't find him. But finally she gets to know where he is. Adi is on railway track, he finds himself guilty for his mom's death. He has lost his mother and his girlfriend as well. Adi, who is positive person decides to commit suicide because of the emotional trauma he is in mainly because of his mom's death. Dia comes to the location and calls Adi. Adi turns towards her and next moment train comes and hits Adi. The camera freezes on shocked face of Dia and thats the end of the film.

The ending is disappointing but makes the story impactful. Few might argue that why Dia leaves the guy she loved from her college day and who was her first love. My opinion is that, her first love initiated with attraction. She sees him and fallen lover with him. But with Adi, the equation is different, they both are strangers, then become friends, and then love blossoms. Also Adi had made her move on from Rohit. Thats why she decides break the marriage with Rohit and comes to Adi. Adi's decision to commit suicide is completely because of the guilt feeling. If you feel that you are the reason for someone's death, that too your mother, whom you love the most. You won't feel like living. That is why he decides to commit suicide. I wish there was few more scene between Adi and his mother to emphasise the bonding between the two.

amateur movie
21 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This movie could have been a good short film, if the duration was less. Looks like casting Prakash Belavadi in movies to give an initial impression of a good content movie is a trend. Prakash Belavadi doesn't play a key role in this movie. in fact, that role was not needed at all. The role gives a one liner motivational dialogue to the Protagonist (indira). Indira's mother could have been used for that purpose. Let me talk about the plot. Movie revolves around a cop (indira) aspiring to solve a criminal case, but has she been looked down upon by her senior. Eventually she gets a suicide case to handle, and because of her aspiration and curiosity she tries to connect dots and later it leads to a different case altogether. It might sound interesting when I concise the middle part of the movie. in fact, the middle portion is kind of interesting and well written. But, the screenplay has bunch of loopholes. in the beginning they use the name of person called 'Munirathna'. Munurathna is a Kannada film producer and was also recently elected as MLA in the recent election. During the election, lots of adhaar card or voter id's of people from his constituency was found in his office (may be in a sting operation guess). This real incident has been used in this movie to create curiosity and also in couple of shots in which Indira's board in which she has pinned various aspects related to the suicide case that she is handling. But the Adhaar card scam has nothing to do with the plot. unnecessarily few scenes regarding this has been added. There is a kidnap case that comes into the story. finally indira cracks the case but she doesn't arrest the culprit, after listening to his moral speech. Her act is not justified. they should have had few more scenes to convince the audience about this act of Indira. Motive of another culprit in this kidnap case sounds so stupid. The only place the movie scores point is the background music, you can call it apt or not bad. cinematography is also good only in terms of how different it looks infer shots. Its been done by a amazing photographer Audiphotography (his Instagram handle). But the camera angles, movement doesn't add any value to the screenplay. Also I observed a blunder in the very first shot of the film. The keys were on the left side of the pant of the security guard but when the camera focuses on the key bunch it moves to the right of his pant. Casting has gone completely wrong in this film. I wasn't satisfied with anyone's acting baring Tarun Sudhir. I have not considered as Sudharani's character and Prakash belavadi's character as they don't add any value to the script. Indira's driver/assistant wears a head constable badge, but he is too young to become a head constable. Also his uniform is lame, the head constable badge looks like it is printed on the sleeves and he rolls his half sleeve as if he is walking the ramp with a cop's costume. in short its an amateur movie.

Expected more from this movie
31 December 2019
I workout call this as a movie made by someone who is inspired by upendra or someone who has assisted upendra in his earlier movies. Upendra always conveys a philosophy in a convincing manner, but this movie is confusing and unclear. Casting was not good, especially the female lead. Few comedy scenes felt unnecessary and annoying because of over acting by tennis Krishna. Music was not impressive, felt like guru Kiran was stuck in early 2000's. I want upendra to come back with a movie which he used to make earlier. This one wasn't impressive.

Film with social interest
31 December 2019
First half of the film can be viewed as a continuation of the first few scenes from Upendra's A (movie). In the first few scenes from "A", he showed the current status of the society and in this movie he showed how he wants this society to be in future. The main message of the movie could have been conveyed in a better way I felt. The impact of this movie would have been as powerful as it was at the interval if the reason for prosperity was explained in a bit more convincing manner.

Out of the box movie
31 December 2019
This movie showed the audience and other filmmakers that movie can be made like this also. No one could ever write such peculiar character and perform it with excellence. Movie has some elements which reflects how frustrated upendra was with the conditions of the society and he showed it his style. Like upendra (movie), this movie was also ahead of its time.

Ageless movie
31 December 2019
This movie was released 20 years ago and even now when you watch it it doesn't feel outdated. It was way ahead of its time. Upendra is a master class when it comes conveying a philosophy while keeping the audience entertained through out the movie. Non linear timelines, different perceptive, breaking the 4th wall makes the movie cult classic. I have never scene a movie in which the protagonist is introduced in the story. This movie has inspired lot of people to become filmmakers..

The 2 stars are for Tarantino style of scene composition
30 December 2019
This the one of the stupid movie I ever watched. Sad that it is from Quentin Tarantino. Movie was unnecessarily long. Watched the volume 2 to understand the reason for the opening shot. But I felt it was so ridiculous and silly. Better avoid both the volumes of this stupidest movie one of the finest director is associated with.

Worst movie I ever watched
28 September 2019
Script has no being no ending. There is no sense at all.. I am surprised to see that people have rated it out of out. Director is trying gi say something which he himself doesn't know.. utter garbage. If you really want to waste your time and spoil your mood watch this movie. Such a disappointment from Neeraj Pandey. Reason for writing this review is that I am so disturbed and frustrated that I wasted my time waiting for something interesting to happen at the end. I should have checked the rating before watching this.

Average movie not up to the expectation
11 August 2019
Let me talk about the good things first. The story is told from dhuryodana's perspective. Darshan has done justice to the character. He once again proved that he can pull off negative shade role. As the movie shows different events of Mahabharata in 3hrs time, movie never feels long. Coming to the downside.. Graphics is decent but not comparable to bhahubhali, which Itself is not an amazing vfx film. Film has unnecessary songs to impress mass audience. Duet between Meghna and Darshan, haripriya's Item number, and nikhil's Song is ware of time. Also there is a scene in which ambharish and Nikhil have a conversation, which is used to indirectly praise Kumaraswamy and Devegowda. Which took close to 20 min of the film. Casting was not good. Bhima was not convincing at all. He looked funny while he was showing his anger and aggression. They should have casted theatre artist instead of mainstream actors. I felt if they had made this movie into 2 or 3 parts it could have been better.

Senseless screen play
26 July 2019
Visuals of the movie is good, thanks to the cinematography and the colour correction. Poor screen play with half backed scenes. Movie is done to impress mass audience with unnecessary comedy and romance. Heroine's character was unnecessary and she will annoy you everytime she Comes on the screen. Heroine all the time roams around with drafter in her hand, foolish attempt by the director to show get as a student. DCP character is not utilised properly. His story had no ending, he disappears all of a sudden from the climax. Hero struggles to find an eye donor for his friend when he is a close ally of a powerful minister. The director, who has also written the story and screenplay for the movie had lost his thought in order to impress the audience. I wouldn't suggest anyone so watch this movie.
