Predictable but funny
20 December 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I am the first to admit that horrible bosses had some funny moments. I found myself laughing almost inadvertently. That being said, I did not really enjoy this film. This falls into the gross out comedy specter for me and I didn't really get into the story. The premise is three guys hate their bosses and decide to kill them and the hijinks begin. The problem with this film is you didn't feel the depth of how bad these bosses are. You barely explore the relationships between the characters before the dumb jokes begin. Everything in this story is typical. Kevin Spacey was a great deal more entertaining in Swimming with Sharks. Every overplayed joke in the book is used in this film. The characters dropping the cocaine and inadvertently getting high from the cocaine dust. The Indian customer service rep with an American name. All of this has been seen and done before. If you are the kind of movie viewer that wants to sit on the sofa, pop open a beer and have a couple of laughs you will probably enjoy this. As an avid film viewer I was bored and even the huge cast list didn't make up for a silly premise and a been there done that script.

Excellent cinema
13 December 2011
I really loved this film. I am not a huge fan of Korean cinema but after this one I may have to rethink this. This is a funny, moving, great film about two people who find each other. It has been such a long time since something really excited me as much as this film did. No need for a remake this is perfect just as it is. The cinematography is creative and stunning and the dialog is clever and endearing. It is really a story about how a person disintegrates and is reborn and inspires another lost soul to wake up and come out into the sunlight. Reminds me a bit of Wristcutters. Grab some black bean noodles, curl up on the sofa and enjoy.

M-o-o-n that spells bad
12 December 2011
I have read the book which sometimes makes watching a film adaption difficult, however, I really liked It, The Stand and Storm of the Century, all TV adaptations . This is so bad it was almost unwatchable. You can blame the director but the screenplay is really the problem. This is admittedly a difficult book to bring to the screen. Many things occur in Mike's head and are difficult to explain without narration. That being said look at the writers credits and it explains a great deal. The story was muddled, the dialogue was trite and painful. Finally the casting choices were wrong across the board. I like Pierce Brosnan but no matter the allure of his name it really did not help the film. mike is the every man not Remington Steele, no offense. I have read the novel and I would suggest a good read instead of this movie or rent Dolores Clairborn or The Shawshank Redemption and sit this one out.

Re: Benning should sue
22 September 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I am a big fan of the original not because I believe that the antiquated story line makes sense for anyone much less women in modern society, I am a fan because of that great scene with Joan Crawford in the bathtub. I love that bathroom. I was dragged to this remake by a friend knowing that it would be disappointing. Horrid, is more like it! First of all, it looks like they lit the whole film with florescent lighting and those shots of Annette Bennings hands, she should sue! I think this was really a remake of the Valley of the Dolls and they just mislabeled the prints. Meg Ryan has lost her spunk and is completely flat on screen, Debra Messing's character is dressed like a bag lady, Eva Mendez compared to Joan Crawford (need I say more), just terrible. Terrible performances, it felt at times that the cast was trying to remember their lines. The dialogue was trite and boring. And to top it all off, instead of making some adjustments to the story to make it work for the modern woman, they left it with Meg Ryan blaming herself for her husbands infidelity and falling wonderfully in love with the cheating schmuck because after all it is not enough to have an extremely successful clothing line, a wonderful daughter and tons of money, you have to have a man! Nightmare! Rent Sex and the City instead which makes you want to jump on a plane and spend the weekend in Manhatten with the girls.
