Whoa Plot Twist
21 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Another vampire movie? I guess we haven't had one in a while, but yeah, I set quite a low expectation when I went to watch this movie. Well, it did not disappoint, not at all. I actually really enjoyed it. The characters are criminals, but I didnt find myself disliking them. It's not a typical vampire slasher flick. It actually has a pretty clever plot twist in my opinion. I expected a predictable ending, where either all the characters dying, or the final girl defeating the vampire in the end, but no, that's not the case. One of the main characters actually became the villain, and the original villain became an ally! The prey became the hunter, and the hunter became the prey. I did not expect it, and I love it! It's bloody, very bloody. Just watch it.

Absolutely Stupid
21 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I left the theater feeling stupid, but yeah, I expected that. What I didn't expect was that Kong could get a toothache, and Godzilla now can run! And jump! And what material is Kong's robot arm made of? It didn't get a single dent after the fight with other titans. And don't get me started on Godzilla getting an upgrade and becoming pink after killing another titan who never even antagonized him. I guess the villain is not too bad, but the humans are utterly useless. While it's not as bad as Monarch the TV series (which is a snoozefest), it's still not good. The only decent monsterverse movies in my opinion are the first Godzilla and Kong Skull Island. The others in the franchise are just dumb. They're not unwatchable or anything, but just don't expect too much. I gave it a 6 because I didnt feel like I wanted to leave the theater early.

The Fall Guy (2024)
10/10
Should've Been A Box Office Hit
21 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It's been 3 weeks since The Fall Guy opened, and it is officially a box office flop. It's a shame because this movie is awesome! Just like another Gosling movie, The Nice Guys, this movie should have been a much bigger hit. The storyline is fresh, the acting is great, and it's actually funny. Yes it's a simple movie and people will probably forget about it a week after watching it. It won't become a cult classic like Fight Club or The Shawshank Redemption, but it really is a fun ride from start to finish. After all, it's an action movie, and it won't have any complex plot or anything. Sometimes simple and fun is just what we need. I like it that they showed their appreciation for the profession of stunt people in post credit. Jason Momoa cameo is a pleasanr surprise.

Yes, Another One
24 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
A family man who used to be a government assassin. Where have we seen this before? Yes, as recently as 2021, only this movie is not as good as Nobody. I gave this movie a chance because I like Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Monaghan, but my god, it's a tired old formula that's been used over and over again since Mr. And Mrs. Smith. I guess there's a reason this movie didnt get a theatrical release. I admit there are some funny scenes, the best of which when Michelle Monaghan character impaled Maggie Q's character with a bamboo pole, but overall this movie falls flat. It's not boring or unwatchable though. It's a pretty good movie to watch if you have 2 hours of free time.

Has potential, but falls short
4 March 2024
A TV series about godzilla? It should be interesting. Well, it's not. If I didnt know that the series was about Monarch, the company that is central in the Titans saga, I wouldnt bother continuing to watch. It somehow managed to be boring, which is wild considering it has Godzilla and other titans in it. The movies are not particularly good, but they are far from boring. This show really disappoints me. The main characters are not interesting at all, even Kurt Russell's character. I wouldnt miss the characters at all if they were to die in the series. Character development is important in every show, but in this show, none of the characters is likeable enough, so I found myself not caring about any of them. Just give us the titans already! I dont know if there'll be a second season, but judging from the first season, it doesnt look promising.

Borefest
25 October 2023
I will say this first: it's not so bad. It's very, very boring though. It's a slow burner, and even though sometimes it can be a good thing, it's not the case here. I feel like this series could be wrapped up much quicker, but they decided to make it so much longer than it should be. The only thing that made me watch it was the name John Wick. Well this series is nothing like the franchise. The direction is completely different, and the characters are uninteresting. Winston and Charon are the only important characters here as they are the only ones to appear in the movies. There's not enough action scenes, unlike the movies, which may have too many. Overall the plot is okay, but I dont like the execution. For something that has "from the world of John Wick" in the title, I feel like it's not related to John Wick at all.

It's Bad, Really Bad
25 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
There's only one word to describe this movie: "Bad." The original Exorcist was one of the best horror movies ever made. It has everything, while the new movie lacks everything. For one, it lacks too many aspects that made the original such a great movie. In the original movie, there were many memorable scenes like the vomiting, the levitating, the neck twisting, etc. I know the filmmaker probably didnt want to be accused of recycling the same material, but they could have been more creative. There's no memorable or scary scene at all. And the worst thing is, despite the title, there's no exorcist here. The people attempting to perform it are basically useless, and the devil won in the end. I honestly can't think of a single positive thing about this film. And to think they have to make a trilogy of this movie?

Not as good as the first one, still a fun ride
30 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I never knew they made a sequel to Becky. The first movie was a hell of a fun ride, and the second one is almost a carbon copy of the first one, but the first movie is slightly better. For one, becky's motivation for revenge in this movie is not as strong as in the first movie. Also, I love seann william scott, but daryll, his character, is not a very strong villain. I mean, the movie shows he's a very capable and dangerous ex navy seal, but he didnt use (or didnt get to use) his skills against becky. The only time he used it was when he killed one of his cronies. In the first movie, Kevin james was more intense and despicable as a villain. Another point is that becky didnt have an issue with darryl and should already be done after killing the guy who murdered elena. All those said, I still enjoyed watching this movie very much. It's a respite from all the superhero and overly serious modern movies. Sometimes all we need is a stupid but highly entertaining movie that doesnt pretend to be something bigger.

Family!
17 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I don't care what the critics say, this movie has got a lot of hearts. I love it, especially the first half. The theme of family is strong here. Jenny Kord said it best: Jaime's house is full of love. Everyone in this movie gave good performances, but the one who really caught my eye is the guy playing jaime's father, alberto. It's no coincidence the good things in the movie happen when he was around. George lopez also did a great job as rudy. I had such low expectations coming into the theater, but I sure left with a big smile in my face. I was never familiar with blue beetle character, and this movie did a great job introducing him. I hope he stays on in james gunn's DCEU. It's not a perfect movie, and I wouldnt even call it a good superhero movie. The villain is kinda weak, but at least this movie doesnt pretend to be bigger than it is. The second half of this movie is a bit stereotypical of superhero movie, which is getting old, but it shouldnt be how this movie is judged. It's a lot of fun.

2 Episodes In, Decent
22 July 2023
I just finished the second episode of this series, and I gave it a 7 mainly for the nostalgia and of course, timothy olyphant. I'm a huge fan of the original series, so I was of course interested when it gets a sequel. Olyphant is charismatic as ever, that hasnt changed, but it feels like it's missing characters like boyd and ava. It's actually too early to judge this new show, but I think it has potential. I like characters like sweety and judge alvin guy, but the rest remains to be seen, especially willa. Maybe the actress who plays her will get better as the show progresses, but for now I'm not convinced. I'm gonna keep watching because I like raylan givens too much.

The Flash (I) (2023)
8/10
One of the Better DCEU Movies, with Major Flaws
15 June 2023
The Flash is not the best DC movie by any stretch. It's not better than Wonder Woman, Shazam, or The Suicide Squad (the 2021 version of course), but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't entertained. That said, it has some flaws that prevent it from being a truly good movie, with the biggest disappointment being t doesnt have any original Flash villain. The Flash has excellent villains, and none of them gets even a mention, making the Flash look like the least appreciated member of the Justice League. Hell, even Shazam, a supposedly less important DC character, was given his own villain. The CGI is not the best we've seen in a DCEU movie, or any movie for that matters. And yes, the Flashpoint Paradox animated movie is still a much better movie. I also felt this movie came too late since there are too many movies about the multiverse these days, especially since this is the most important arc in the Flash storyline. Still, I find there's a lot to like. It has fun cameos from past DC movies, even including one that was cancelled. The storyline is decent enough although fans of the Flash will find it familiar and thus predictable. The cast members did a decent enough job with Michael Keaton's Batman being the best. I gave it an 8 because I felt entertained when I left the theater, which is what a movie should be.

So stupid it's entertaining
22 March 2023
I think every single person on this planet fully expected this movie to be horrible when it was first announced, so it should come as no surprise that it actually is. I watched it after seeing the extremely low imdb score, so I knew what to expect. This movie isnt even trying to be good. For starters, they didnt bother making pooh and piglet look like actual animals. They just look like fat men in costumes, and I actually like that. It makes them look even crazier. Yes the acting throughout is terrible, but the human characters are not supposed to be the main attraction of the show. Pooh and piglet are. I was a little disappointed that owl and rabbit didnt appear even though their characters were introduced in the beginning, while tiger isnt even in the movie at all. The movie actually managed to entertain me in ways modern hollywood movies dont, and that's why I gave it a quite generous score of 5/10. I heard a sequel has been announced. I WILL watch it.

Not as bad as the reviews say
20 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, this movie is not perfect. It's definitely not one of the strongest MCU movies, but it's certainly not the worst. After being treated with poor phase 4 movies, this movie feels pretty good. It's much better than the likes of Eternals and Thor Love and Thunder. Majors is a good choice to play Kang, but I feel he wasnt given a very good script for this movie. MCU's biggest problem has always been the villains, and to some extent, it's the case here too. Kang is supposed to be an avenger-level villain, but it doesnt show it here. He has the presence and powers, which he shows when he threatens scott and cassie and freezes janet, but when it comes to the final battle, he doesnt use those powers. Instead he uses his energy beam thing, which I think is not as effective. He couldve destroyed the ants easily, but no. He even got his suit damaged by the ants. There are plenty to like about this movie though. Paul rudd is great as ever, and kathryn newton is refreshing. I like how she's not suddenly a strong and experienced fighter even though she has the suit. I do miss michael pena and TI, but I understand they wouldve been underused if included. Overall I think it's a solid, though not great, entry. I gave it a 7 because I found it entertaining enough, and that it marks the beginning of the Phase 5, which has potential.

Plane (2023)

Good entertainment. Dont expect too much.
6 February 2023
I love movies like Plane. It's entertaining without trying too hard. It wont compete for awards, but it's a good action flick. Some people expect the technical details to be spot on, but I feel that will just make it boring. Of course there are gonna be flaws, just like many 90s action flicks, but guess what, that's Hollywood. The flaws are there to drive the plot. Plane is fast paced from the start. Don't expect things like character development, backstories, etc. From the moment they showed the supposedly Changi airport in Singapore, I knew this wouldnt be one of those movies, but that's not a dealbreaker. I was looking for the action, not accuracy. Overall I like it a lot.

Good tribute, somewhat average movie
13 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is a fitting tribute to Chadwick Boseman. It's not overly done, and I feel it's respectful enough, although I'm not entirely satisfied about the cause of the character's death. I agree the character of T'challa shouldnt be replaced, despite Boseman's brother insisting otherwise. There are things I like about the movie, like how Shuri doesnt take the mantle of Black Panther too early, and how she doesnt automatically become queen opon her mother's death. I also like that she is conflicted when she first took the herb. Many to like, but there are some things that I feel make this movie feel average. First, the heart shaped herb. Shuri only succeeded in making the synthetic herb after sampling the properties of the bracelet given by Namor because the fiber is made of "vibranium rich plant." If I'm not mistaken, Wakanda is pretty rich in vibranium itself. Second, the MCU has always had one big problem: the villains. Other than Thanos, Loki and Kilmonger, the villains in MCU are pretty weak. Namor is no exception. Third, Shuri led her people to a massacre because she wanted revenge, and the Wakandans still feel she's fit to be the Black Panther? She doesnt even feel guilty about it afterwards. At least make her face the repercussions of her actions and choices. And fourth, Riri Williams aka Ironheart. In the comics, she stole the iron man tech, which I dont like but at least makes sense. In the movie, she made the whole thing from scrap. How the hell did she have the knowledge, materials, and technology to create it from the ground up? I get she's portrayed as a genius but she has neither Stark tech nor the fund. Maybe I just dont like the character. Overall, I give it a 7 because it's a fitting tribute to Boseman and it's still much better than recent Marvel efforts like Thor Love and Thunder and especially the Disney+ series.

Utterly disappointing
6 July 2022
I loved Thor Ragnarok. Absolutely loved it. I also like Natalie Portman and Christian Bale, so I was really looking forward to this movie, even more so than Doctor Strange. I was disappointed. It's very, very boring. The guardians are somewhat wasted here, Jane's story is not good enough, and Christian Bale's character is boring and uninteresting as a villain. I really think this is one of the weakest MCU offerings. Probably on the same level as Thor The Dark World, which is unthinkable given how much bigger MCU has become since that movie came out, and that it has the same director as the excellent Thor Ragnarok. Eternals failed because it doesnt have interesting characters. This movie has familiar characters, but I think they are not utilised properly. Very disappointed.

May Be the Worst in the Series
16 June 2022
I watched this movie expecting it to be bad, but at least better than the fallen kingdom. I was wrong. This is even worse. It relies too much on nostalgia and callbacks to the original Jurassic Park, but it just fails. The storyline is a mess, the villain is wayyy boring, and the dinosaurs are just there because it's a Jurassic movie, nothing else. Kids may love it, but anyone expecting something more will be disappointed.

Not gonna lie, I expected it to flop
25 May 2022
When I first saw the announcement of a Top Gun sequel, I chuckled a little bit. I didnt see how a sequel after more than 30 years could work. And many youtube channels predicted it would flop hard. I went to the theater wanting to see how terrible it was gonna be. I was completely wrong though. It's a perfect blockbuster movie. I liked the first Top Gun but never loved it. I LOVED this one. I was surprised to see Miles Teller's likeness with goose. And goddamn he's been working out. Unlike many sequels, Top Gun Maverick doesnt recycle its predecessor's storyline. Watch it. It's totally worth the price of admission.

It's actually good
14 March 2022
This movie exceeds my expectations. Not that I had high expectations for it though. Channing tatum is very good here, balancing comedy with drama, and the comedy is genuinely funny. The drama is not overdone. It never feels like it's trying too hard, and I like it. Even though the plot is predictable and there's nothing special about it, it's still a satisfying viewing experience. No need for over complicated, sophisticated plots if the simple plot line is well executed. One of the better movies post pandemic.

Not bad at all
20 February 2022
Aside from some boring scenes, and there are quite a few, this is a solid show. I like the characters and the plot is quite interesting. I enjoyed Tom Cruise's version and I actually prefer it to this show, but this show is not bad at all. I like that the writers didnt cast someone who looks like Tom Cruise, so we won't keep comparing the two versions and just enjoy the plot. It's a binge worthy show.

Where have I seen this before?
20 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
If you've seen the other iterations of this franchise, you don't need to see this one. The main characters are extremely unlikeable, but teens today are despicable so I guess the portrayal is accurate. It has the idea of bringing the sole surviving character of the original, yet she brought nothing to the table other than being stupid. The ending is predictable. It's the same ending as one of the previous installments! That's just lazy writing. The gory is good though, which is why I gave it a 4. Overall a forgettable installment.

Bad movie
6 February 2022
Dark Phoenix really was the turning point for Simon Kinberg. He hasnt made a good project since that movie. This movie is especially bad. The acting is bad, the characters showed no emotion (especially chastain and kruger), the storyline is just predictable. Overall this is an ultimate borefest. Skip this movie if you havent watched it.

Not good at all
2 June 2021
The original Saw is an excellent movie. The subsequent sequels are not, but at least they're entertaining enough to be watchable. This one is neither good nor entertaining. Chris Rock is a good comedian, but not a very good dramatic actor, and it shows very clearly here. He shouts excessi8vely, and isn't very convincing overall. Samuel L Jackson is wayy underutilized here although the tone of this movie doesnt exactly suit him. Overall, this movie is just not good... At all.

Much better than the theatrical version
18 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, the reason why this movie is so much better than the theatrical version is because the theatrical version omitted wayyyyyyy too many important elements and subplots that could have saved that movie. However, the plot is basically the same as the theatrical release, and the villains are still not great, even darkseid. Cyborg's subplot was criminally omitted in whedon's version, and it's thankfully restored here, which I thought was the biggest difference between this version and the whedon's one, even more than darkseid's appearance. Cyborg felt like the most unimportant character in the previous version, but here he's a very important character. The 4-hour runtime is a bit excessive though, at least to me. Maybe if I hadn't watched the theatrical release, I would think differently. Overall, this is a much better version of Justice League, but it's still far from an excellent superhero movie. I dont really like the casting of ben afleck, jared leto, ezra miller, joe manganiello, and especially jesse eisenberg. I really hope the future DCEU films will be much better.

Very, very entertaining stupid movie
9 February 2021
A lot of the negative reviews here are from people who apparently want every single movie to compete for oscars. This filmmaker certainly doesn't expect to win any award. It's just one of those fun stupid movies that's very entertaining to watch. Don't expect too much from Kevin James' debut as a villain. He is, after all, a comedian. It is refreshing to see him out of his mould, but this movie is still very much a comedy, albeit a very dark one.
