Catching Air (2023)

Talentless fun
20 January 2024
To me the point of air guitar was to make it appear as though you actually look like you knew how to play guitar. None of the contestants actually looked the part. Thay would go from appearing to be holding the guitar to not. Not one. I thought they all looked ridiculous. It was a fun little documentary but I wouldn't recommend it.

A 10 score is all hype
12 January 2024
I'm sorry to say this is not a 10 in the real world. It's not a must see and quite frankly it's pretty boring. I dont need a lot of action if there is a good story with intensity and characters I care about. But I just didn't get enough of anything here. There are a lot of k drams out there with plenty of monsters and zombies, but this wasent even in the top 5 of recent offerings. Don't get me wrong, it wasent bad l, evidence by more score. But.these 10 scores are not objective at all. And the actual rating of a 7.4 at the time of my posting this is more accurate to reality. Stop the hype and keep it real please!

Hate and lies can be ok
10 January 2024
I really enjoyed the beginning and middle up until they started to push the, all white men are demons and start all wars BS. But it's OK to hate some people. And the introduction of firearms was done by accident.

Guns were introduced to Japan by Portuguese adventurers who were shipwrecked near the shore of Tanegashima, a small island south of Kyushu, in 1543. Matchlock pistols and guns modeled on the imported weapons began to be made in Japan and were an important feature of battles during the 1570s and 1580s.

Technically the matchlock is a kind of musket, fired by mechanically touching a lighted fuse to a charge of shot and gunpowder. The matchlock's effective range was about two hundred meters, and a well-trained soldier would be able to fire four shots per minute at most. But in Japan, where bows and arrows and stone catapults had been the only projectile weapons, firearms revolutionized battle strategy. Long-range fighting came to replace close combat, and infantry superseded cavalry in importance. Oda Nobunaga's 1575 victory over Takeda Katsuyori in the Battle of Nagashino is said to have depended on firearms fired in volleys by infantrymen against a charging cavalry force.

The revenge story was great as well as the animation. I'd love to see another season. But nobody is responsible for their own actions as long as there is the blue eyed devil around to blame.

Robbie who?
12 November 2023
First of all I'm not the target of boy band music. In the thick of it all I was into grunge, metal, hard rock, classic rock, stoner rock, psychedelic, and even the second british invasion. So for me this guy is completely irrelevant. And I don't think they or he gained a big audience in the states. I couldn't name you one song he or his boy band sang. After saying that, IMO bro get over it. You had a career, you have money and a beautiful family. This is all fodder for more attention. We aren't talking Bowie, Elton John, or even Marc Bolan. So unless you're british I can't think of one reason to give a ****!

Fun mixture of classics
22 October 2023
Personally i enjoyed this movie even though it was a mishmash of several.movies combines. But what film doesn't take from.otgers for inspiration? Just like music, but even more so with story telling there is always tones of inspiration. Just this one is a.little.nore blatant. All these bad reviews are from people who really don't what any story, they want gore. And there is enough gore here. A list of films I saw inspiration from are, children of the corn, stand by me, pumpkin head, jeepers kreepers, and the hunger games. Lighten up people and enjoy. Not even movie can be your favorite. Good Halloween fun!

Binge worthy
9 April 2023
I read a review where someone said no relatable characters and I could not disagree more. I related to to the two main characters and several.of the secondary ones as well. Well structured characters and story. And I love that they were not opposed to integrating spirituality in the form of christianity. I'm an agnostic skeptic but it was nice to see them.go against the Hollywood hate for all things and people christian. Not to give to much away but the theme of the stresses of life in all forms is universal especially in the US. As a white guy married.to an Asian the story of the pressure from thw Asian culture to succeed and provide for the parents and as a one time small business owner was very relatable as well. Great show. It deserves the high scores.

I don't get the hate
22 February 2023
After watching this film I gotta believe most people want to watch the same old formulas, action, and unoriginal stories over and over. The people that love the fast and furious nonsense probably won't like this film. It's not Shamalans greatest work but it's far better than most films released today. I respect him for trying to give us something to think about and has a moral message. He could rehash the same crap that sells to the mindless zombies out there but with every film he tries to make us think and give us something out if the ordinary. And I will always watch and look forward to his next project. Who makes films like this other than M. Night? Nobody, I watch a lot of films instead of series probably five a week. I research and will go back to watch early films and I can appreciate the context of when it was made and it's importance of when it was made and it's social message for it's time. This film has deeper meaning about the state of our compassion for others and acceptance and it doesn't beat us over the head with it. I'm tired of being lectured about race and gender and this was far more subtle and kept that eerie feeling you get with his films waiting for the ball to drop. We all knew what was gonna happen in the end, that was probably the weakest part of the film. And if he could have come up with something strange or even darker the pay off may have been better. But I understand why he did it. So if you like to watch the same old tired story lines and action films over and over you may not enjoy this. As for me M. Night scores again.

Ridiculous , ignorant, and preachy in a bad way
15 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I don't get these high ratings. Who would walk into work and find a woman out of her mind and covered in blood then throw her over your shoulder and being her home and hide her from the police? Even if your an ex con it's absurd..nothing good can come of it, not even a piece of azz. Lol. When they eventually do get caught he will be suspected of helping her kill her husband. They are sleeping together. It's just ridiculous. And making the main character a Muslim the writer/director want us all to know that all Muslims aren't bad. Yeah we know this. But just in case they didn't know a Muslim would not work with dogs. Dogs are nagis (impure) just like pigs are. And what he said about confession is just absurd. Not all Christians confess to others, it can help, but they only have to confess to God, like Muslims Allah. I'm an agnostic skeptic but I have studied religions. Muslims ask for forgiveness in there daily prayers. And it just dragged and the absurd decisions never ended. And all the police were immoral and dirty who persecuted him constantly. So unrealistic. Also if the man was a Christian it would be labeled a Christian film but since it's a Muslim it's revalatory and meaningful. I couldn't even finish it. Skip it unless you wanted to be frustrated and your a masochist.

Lost opportunity
23 January 2023
I had high hopes for this. The topic and scenario has so many freak possibilities. Juggalos come from all walks of life and they aren't all the stereotype and they could have capitalized on this so much more. It was so uninspired from direction to acting. No heart and no risk taking. I've seen the main actress before and she is capable of so much more. The neighbor who was from SNL would have been a mm uch better choice for the starring role. She is always funny even in this small geuat role. If you have nothing else to watch and are easily amused then give it a shot, just don't have high expectations.

Embarrassed for them
26 October 2022
This was one of those films that made me embarrassed for the actors. It was so formulaic and represented everything that's bad with the Hollywood machine. I grew no attachment to any of the characters mostly due to them being just a rehash of so many others. My wife is from Indonesia and I have been to Bali a few times. It's my favorite place on the planet that I have ever visited. And this film even managed to fit the beauty of the place and the people. My wife watches this with me and she even states this is worse than a Lifetime movie. I've come to expect so much more from George Clooney that I really felt bad for him. He has to know while filming this it was gonna be horrible. I cannot give one redeeming quality of this movie. Avoid at all cost unless you are easily amused. I hope their pay checks were worth this embarrassment.

Not terrible
16 October 2022
I'm no fan of MGK and after reading the reviews I almost passed. If it were not for Kevin Bacon and Hummel and MGK was going to try and carry this film I wouldn't of had a second thought. Am I glad I gave it a shot? Kind of. I couldn't find anything else to watch so what the hell? MGK held his own and was able to keep just enough tension and sympathy for me to hold on while I was playing games on my phone. Bacon did a respectable job as did Himmel. I would say it's a step up for MGK and a step down for Bacon and Hummel but just enough to be entertaining. It was nice to see the actress from the sopranos as well, can't remember her name but still looking sexy to me. So if you can't find anything else and you enjoy thrillers I would say you won't be terribly disappointed. And all of these people who give it a 1 or under a 5 are doing so because they dislike MGK so much they cannot be honest.

Another Dahmer film?
25 September 2022
When I saw this I thought, do we really need another Dahmer movie? It's been done many time. But turns out we did. Excellent portrayals that will haunt your psychy. I haven't finished it yet but I can honestly say it is very well made and nothing like the previous exploitative slasher films. We all know the story so there is no point in giving anything away. But if your into true crime and the events and psychological disposition of those that commit these atrocities this is one of the better ones. Say what you want about Netflix, they killed it. I just wish Mind Hunter would have continued, but this makes up for it a little.

Excellent but deceptive
29 August 2022
In the opening credits it says 100 years since christians seized Jerusalem. That's not true at all. They took back Jerusalem from the Muslim invaders.

The first Crusade began in 1095... 460 years after the first Christian city was overrun by Muslim armies, 457 years after Jerusalem was conquered by Muslim armies, 453 years after Egypt was taken by Muslim armies, 443 after Muslims first plundered Italy, 427 years after Muslim armies first laid siege to the Christian capital of Constantinople, 380 years after Spain was conquered by Muslim armies, 363 years after France was first attacked by Muslim armies, 249 years after the capital of the Christian world, Rome itself, was attacked by a Muslim army, and only after centuries of church burnings, killings, enslavement and forced conversions of Christians.

By the time the Crusades finally began, Muslim armies had conquered two-thirds of the Christian world.

Europe had been harassed by Muslim aggression since the first few years following Muhammad's death. As early as 652, Muhammad's followers launched raids on the island of Sicily, waging a full-scale occupation 200 years later that lasted almost a century and was punctuated by massacres, such as that at the town of Castrogiovanni, in which 8,000 Christians were put to death. In 1084, ten years before the first crusade, Muslims staged another devastating Sicilian raid, burning churches in Reggio, enslaving monks and raping an abbey of nuns before carrying them into captivity.

In 1095, Byzantine Emperor, Alexius I Comneus began begging the pope in Rome for help in turning back the Muslim armies which were overrunning what is now Turkey, grabbing property as they went and turning churches into mosques. Several hundred thousand Christians had been killed in Anatolia alone in the decades following 1050 by Seljuk invaders interested in 'converting' the survivors to Islam.

Not only were Christians losing their lives in their own lands to the Muslim advance, but pilgrims to the Holy Land from other parts of Europe were being harassed, kidnapped, molested, forcibly converted to Islam and occasionally murdered. Compare this to the Quran's justification for slaughter on the simple basis that Muslims were denied access to the Meccan pilgrimage.

Renowned scholar Bernard Lewis points out that the Crusades, though "often compared with the Muslim jihad, was a delayed and limited response to the jihad and in part also an imitation.... Forgiveness for sins to those who fought in defense of the holy Church of God and the Christian religion and polity, and eternal life for those fighting the infidel: these ideas... clearly reflect the Muslim notion of jihad."

Lewis goes on to state that, "unlike the jihad, it, the Crusade was concerned primarily with the defense or reconquest of threatened or lost Christian territory... The Muslim jihad, in contrast, was perceived as unlimited, as a religious obligation that would continue until all the world had either adopted the Muslim faith or submitted to Muslim rule... The object of jihad is to bring the whole world under Islamic law."

If someone takes your wallet and you take it back, who is the real thief?

The Crusaders only invaded lands that had been Christian. They did not attack Saudi Arabia, other than a half-hearted expedition by a minor figure, or sack Mecca, as the Muslims had done, and continued doing, to Rome and Constantinople. Their primary goal was the recapture of Jerusalem and the security of safe passage for pilgrims. The toppling of the Muslim empire was not on the agenda.

The period of Crusader "occupation" of its own former land was stretched tenuously over about 170 years, which is less than the Muslim occupation of Sicily and southern Italy alone - to say nothing of Spain, Bulgaria and other lands that had never been Islamic before falling victim to Jihad. In fact, the Arab occupation of North Africa and Middle Eastern lands outside of Arabia is almost 1400 years old.

Despite popular depiction, the Crusades were not a titanic battle between Christianity and Islam. Although originally dispatched by papal decree, the "occupiers" quickly became part of the political and economic fabric of the Middle East without much regard for religious differences. Their arrival was largely accepted by the local population as simply another change in authority. Islamic radicals even lamented the fact that many of their co-religionists preferred to live under Frankish (Christian) rule than migrate to Muslim lands.

The Muslim world was also split into warring factions, many of which allied themselves with the Frankish princes against each other at one time or another. This even included Saladin, the Kurdish warrior who is credited with eventually ousting the "Crusaders." Contrary to recent propaganda, however, Saladin had little interest in holy war until a rogue Frankish prince began disrupting his trade routes. Both before and after the taking of Jerusalem, his armies spent far more time and resources battling fellow Muslims.

For its part, the Byzantine, Eastern Christian Empire preferred to have little to do with the Crusader kingdoms and went so far as to sign treaties with their Muslim rivals on occasion.

Another misconception is that the Crusader era was a time of constant war. In fact, very little of this overall period included significant hostilities. In response to Muslim expansion or aggression, there were only about 20 years of actual military campaigning, much of which was spent on organization and travel. (They were from 1098-1099, 1146-1148, 1188-1192, 1201-1204, 1218-1221, 1228-1229, and 1248-1250). By comparison, the Muslim Jihad against the island of Sicily alone lasted 75 grinding years.

Ironically, the Crusades can be justified from the Quran itself, which encourages Holy War in order to "drive them out of the places from whence they drove you out" (2:191). However, in this case the objective wasn't to expel Muslims from the Middle East, but to bring an end to the molestation of pilgrims. Holy war is not justified by New Testament teachings, which is why the Crusades are an anomaly, the brief interruption of centuries of relentless Jihad against Christianity that began long before and continued well after that event.

The greatest crime of the Crusaders was the sacking of Jerusalem, in which at least 3,000 people were said to have been massacred. This number is dwarfed by the number of Jihad victims, from India to Constantinople, Africa and Narbonne, but followers of Islam have never apologized for their crimes and never will.

Misleading but we'll made
21 August 2022
There is nothing inherently wrong with charter schools. This documentary attempts to demonize them with a broad brush. And the hypocrisy is astounding. So it's ok to indoctrinate children through public schools but when the people want to stray from their world views and teach something other than what they deem appropriate then it's evil. Freedom to choose is one of basic rights as Americans. Parents should have the choice and then ugh this choice the bad will be weeded out. Our public education system has agendas, and now it's grooming children with the LGBTQrslmnop agenda. Teaching pronouns and wanting to start as early as possible. Let children be children and let parents choose what educational program they want for their children. There is no question that public school education is not the best and only choice. Are there going to be bad private schools? Of course, are their bad public schools and teachers of course. But we should have the choice for our children. Big goverent wants to parent our children. And if you don't like that they will demonize you.

A lot of issues with this film, but mostly it's pacing and inaccuracies. The one thing that bothered me the most was the Irish mink calling out for Jesus and using the Islamic name Isa, or Esa for Jesus. For 1400 years even Arab christian have not used those names for Jesus so what would a European monk be using that name for? Just absurd! It's somewhat enjoyable and Hayden's performance was acceptable but I had a very difficult time finishing it.

Warning: Spoilers
I love the daily wire and have enjoyed the female lead in other things particularly the mandelorian for which she was booted for speaking the truth but this was a disappointment. I don't know why she would choose to pull a gun on five men in her home that hadent done anything to warrant it. That was the beginning of downfall for me. And then it dragged on with her continually risking the lives of her children. I guess she was doing all this for principal but she had a young son and an infant to defend and it was irresponsible. What a let down.

Enjoyable but frustrating
18 June 2022
These women complain about injustice and prejudice in the world but they cannot see how their own ideology that they cling to is completely unjust and bigoted. After studying Islam for a couple decades to hear the ignorance and hypocrisy spewed from them is so frustrating. And the propoganda that ISIS is not Islamic couldn't be further from the truth. Islam does permit slavery and trading slaves. It also Permits taking married female captives and having there way with them. They say no scholar would agree that this is Islamic. That's the problem, they don't do any independent research and just listen to the lies they are told. Read sura 4:24 and the tafsirs of al Jalalayn, IBN Kathie, IBN abbass and the Sahih Hadith when it was revealed. They are perpetual victims until they begin to educate themselves. How anyone would submit to something without investigating it first is beyond me. And If they change there mind the menalty for apostasy is death. Stay away from Islam.

First five minutes it looked like it could have been something. If these reviews that are high are authentic then they must be children. Some of the dialogue was well written but it was overshadowed by the childish and corny scenarios. If your 13 you kglight enjoy it. 22 March 2022
This has to be one of the most absurd cons I've ever heard. I watched it with my jaw in the ground. How could someone be wo willfully ignorant? She had a successful New York restaurant and she threw it all away for a man who continueky promised her utopia? She had the dream. Something isn't right. I don't buy this nonsense. Nobody can be this dumb.

Intriguing even with so many holes
15 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not gonna make this long. It's starts off a little slow but enough to keep you interested and vested in the characters. There are many flaws and holes in the story but I will only mention one that I just couldn't let go of. The brutal stabbing if the victim 22 times with blood splatter everywhere at the crime scene and nobody brings up the fact that the suspect had none of this splatter in his clothing. That enough would have set him free. It's frustrating to watch but the tension is enough with all the subplots to keep you watching. I'm not quite finished so I can't evaluate the ending. But it's still holding my interest after 7 or 8 episodes. If you can get over the errors and watch for what it is, give it a shot. But I wouldn't blame you if you couldn't.

Tense and raw
22 December 2021
Ok I'm gonna admit I've watched one episode but I have read some of these reviews where people have given after only one episode and they are saying it's slow and no story. And I'm wondering if they watched the same show as I did. I had to check to see the title. What are they thinking, what do they want? Yes it's brutal and raw. And? What do you think their lives were like? Do you think these men and women sat in a computer all day an didn't live these lives? If you don't want to watch a realistic dramatization with real depictions of how life was then than why would you even turn this on? So far it is everything I could ask for depicting this time and trade. If it gets worse I will change my rating but as of know if you give this anything less than a seven then I would not want to let you pick a show for me.

These people criticizing this and saying it is sexualizing kids are out of their minds and paranoid. You must have had a strange middle school and puberty. I grew up in the 80s and this shows the awkwardness and raging hormones that I experienced. And if you are saying it is sexualizing kids then I don't think you've watched it at all. You probably read something and regurgitated the propoganda. It's funny and an accurate depiction, of course exaggerated. Lighten up!
