Elevator Game (2023)

I thought the acting was good!
26 February 2024
I'm confused why so many people are saying the acting was bad! I really enjoy this type of characterful acting! I think they got the right balance, not too realistic it's boring, and not too much that it was unrealistic either! And the story on the whole isn't that bad at all! It's different to any big Hollywood movie that's for sure! I don't find the big budget horrors scary any more, they all have the same sort of concept, as a big horror buff who watches one a day, this was different and had a more entertaining type of acting so stood out to me. So I've got to say... the reviews are very surprising here.

Enjoyable and Beautifully Over-Acted
1 January 2024
If you want to see a film starring great actors, a sentimental plot, funny dialogue and character acting, then this is the one. A film to settle down to with a mug of good, strong English tea and a digestive biscuit. You couldn't get a more British atmosphere - well, actually an upper middle class, ex-private school landscape where the civility and awkwardness of most of the characters said much about the 70's and 80's world of 'Carry On' romps, suggestive humour; and decency, honour and valour. I say this not as a adverse criticism, but as a compliment. This world did exist in reality, and it was played out in the film by an array of talent who brought a strong characterisation to their roles, clearly being allowed by the Director to do so. Today, allowing actors to bring strong characterisation to their roles is largely frowned upon by those in casting, meaning that realism can be a code word for 'dull'. But Four Weddings passed the test, We got to love the characters quickly, and follow their every rise and fall in the romantic stakes. A good, fun way to spend an evening!

Stick Man (2015 TV Movie)

My Favourite Christmas Film
27 December 2023
This film is truly beautiful in every way. It is stunning animation, adventurous, fun, meaningful, comforting, atmospheric, beautiful storyline, stunning music too and rather emotional as well.

I can watch it every year and never get bored of it.

Fantastic actors/voice actors too, Sally Hawkins has such a wonderful, soft and comforting voice and I love her in everything I see or hear her in!

I feel a fondness to stick man and he's family, and I so wish for him to get back home to them and root (pun wasn't intended) for him the whole way through the story.

10/10 highly recommend. And even as an adult I can say it's probably one of the best little Christmassy animations I've ever watched.

An Emotional Journey
17 March 2022
An outstanding tale full of emotion, finding roots, and honouring the English cultural heritage of fair play, sportsmanship and sporting expansionism. A story of honour, dignity and valour, with one eye kept on the glorious past, and one on an insecure future for Corinthian Casuals.

Sport can be the bond that brings people together, as demonstrated by the overwhelming Latin enthusiasm meshing with the quieter reserved nature of the Brits; all within the brotherhood of Football . Thank goodness the 'Corinthian spirit lives on!

Magical Escapism, but Not Entirely Original
24 December 2018
A lovely film, with colour, spectacle and sugar-coated candy floss. Real escapism with some lovely family-first messaging. Emily Blunt was just...blunt and fairly characterless. But all the other actors did a grand job. Light, fluffy and a brave attempt at matching an all-time epic.
