Your Honor (2020)
I Dislike The Kid, So Much
This series would be better titled "Look At How Far We Can Stretch This Otherwise Interesting Story By Focusing On This Ungrateful And Unreasonably Stupid Kid As Our Main Plot Device Instead Of Exploring Each Characters And Their Own Story."
Or we can exclude the kid and call it a movie with 90 minutes runtime.
Magnolia (1999)
Unnecessarily Boring
This is movie is what happens when you're in a bar and an old guy approached you and started telling you his stories, all incoherent, choppy, vaguely related, with no real purpose whatsoever... and you stayed and listened to it anyway.
All the actors and actresses in it were brilliant, the director is no doubt a good one, but that only shows that brilliance doesn't make up for lack of story and lack of skill in story telling.
It doesn't need to be that long. The plot is stretched so thin you can cut it into squares and make papers to make up for the hundreds of pages the writers used to write the story with. And even then, that would be okay if only it wouldn't go even further to dare not to give any closure to any conflict presented in the first place.
If I wanna look at all the pain and suffering around me, with no real resolution and without any real point, I don't gotta sit for 3 hours through this movie, I can just look outside my streets. There's a reason it's called a movie, not reality. It is supposed to be more interesting, with something to offer, not a homework to think about because let's face it, real life isn't that exciting to watch.
We Have Always Lived in the Castle (2018)
great production value, no story
This movie is like going on a vacation to venice, as mentioned in the movie.
before you actually go there, it seems promising, it's alluring, people talking about it, it has its mystery...
and then you go there and it's beautiful but foreign, it is intense but also you feel no real stake, it's strange but you're willing to open your mind about it, until in the end you realize that you just can not really connect to any of it because you're a tourist and you are treated like one.
then, just like any other vacation, once you're done, you are a bit disoriented, and feeling nothing but tired.
American Animals (2018)
good film, great deliveries
But how come the woman playing as Melanie Halloran isn't credited?
Extinction (2018)
a breath of fresh air
All i can say is that they did what they could with what they got and it is like a breath of fresh air to watch for sure. congratulations to everyone involved, this is one of the few good deliveries i have seen lately, story-wise and in terms of production value.
gotta admit, was initially dismissive of this movie and couldn't get over the seemingly overused plot and the image of Michael Peña that i know but that is all on me now after i seen it.
