From: Belly of the Beast (2023)
Don't believe the haters
From is a show that beautifully stitches together suspense and mystery. Unfortunately it doesn't get to the broad mainstream yet. But since it took it's next step in popularity, there is a lot of hate from a few people popping up on Reddit. Not criticism, but undirected hate almost against everything in the show. After that you suddenly saw ratings on IMDb decline for some episodes, which don't do the show justice.
In my opinion some episodes are weaker in terms of action, because they are putting more focus on the character development. This isn't one of them. From my point of view it has a great balance between keep-you-on-the-edge horror and much-needed dialogue. I, for one, want to care about the characters, and I don't mind a slow burn. It follows tightly the story of the former episode and increases the stress level in the show.
And again, some outstanding acting in it, like from Harold Perrineau and Elizabeth Saunders. Absolute recommendation. Especially, if you liked Lost, The Leftovers and the first season of Wayward Pines.
Dexter: New Blood: Sins of the Father (2022)
The better ending
I hated the ending of the original series and this is the ending which Dexter really deserved. I seriously cannot understand all the other upset reviews.
I'm sorry, there will be some spoilers, so please stop reading if you haven't seen it yet. From my point of view an excellently narrated story comes to the end in this episode. Harrision is a judge and brings hope that there is a cure for the dark passenger. He hasn't killed anyone yet and even though he showed the same tendencies he didn't give in in the end. He was still able to differentiate between the real evil and the code. I think it was a smart move to bring in another character to end the story and leave as the better version, the version that resisted the same urges Dexter couldn't. Do you remember the highly acclaimed ending of Breaking Bad? How is this any different?
As much as I loved Dexter as a character, we all know, what he had been doing for such a long time, was never right, we all know that he already crossed the border of the code a long time ago, there is no justification anymore for following his urges whatsoever. And they rounded it well, the child which he brought into the world and which had to suffer from the consequences of Dexter's killing became his judge in the end. Think about it, the only dark passenger which Harrison had, was his father. Additionally I like to add as well, that I liked the acting, the scenery and the music choices a lot. One star missing because I would have love to see Batista and Dexter meet. Well done!
The Stand (2020)
Mistaken by the other reviews
After watching the first episode I was really surprised to read so many bad reviews. I understand that the story doesn't happen in the same chronological order, but from my point of view it adds to the story and creates the suspense which totally lacks in the original version. In comparison this version has good actors who actually perfo well, it has more speed (did someone actually write the miniseries was more exciting? I mean, did you really watch it or is it your memory from the 90ies? ;) and a way better edit. And before you ask, I'm a King reader. Really looking forward to the next episode.
