Atlas (2024)
Had potential but destroyed by JL's over acting
**Movie Review: Atlas**
Alright, let's talk about "Atlas." The graphics are absolutely banging, and the action scenes? Properly nailed it. You're on the edge of your seat, loving every punch and explosion. The storyline, though, is a bit meh. Nothing to write home about, really.
Now, here's the kicker: Jennifer's acting. Blimey, it's a disaster. She's overacting like there's no tomorrow, and it just ruins the whole vibe. It's so over the top, you can't take any of the serious bits seriously. It's a real shame because everything else was looking pretty decent.
So, in a nutshell, "Atlas" is a bit of a mixed bag. Great visuals and action, but the story's just alright, and Jennifer's performance? Total rubbish. If you're splashing out on a big project, make sure the acting doesn't muck it all up.
Qorin (2022)
Promising first half and then it takes a nose dive
This was my first Indonesian horror movie and must say that the start was amazing. It starts building up expectations but the second half of the movie feels like a drag.
Most of the scenes are in dark making it difficult to understand what's going on, the story goes from being great, to mediocre and finally a joke. There is so much confusion that it's difficult to focus on the plot (if that exists at that point) and understand what's going on.
The last minutes were watched on fast forward because I just wanted it to be over.
For what started as something that will haunt me for a while, ended up as a movie I would forget about as soon as it finished.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021)
Even Samuel couldn't save this one
This movie should be part of the film making curriculum as a master class on how poor script and direction can spoil a film. Even Samuel couldn't save this one. If I were Samuel, I would fire my manager for getting me involved in this Train wreck.
Chris Rick should stick with comedy. It was my first time watching him in a serious role and he couldn't do it. This completely spoiled the intense scenes and you would half expect a punch line.
I would not get into the script and direction as both were awful and not worth spending time on.
If you are a Saw fan, just remember those few bad ones in the series and avoid this one if you can.
Finally I am downgrading my review from 2 to one star because of what they did to the killers voice. "I wanna play a game" is a cult classic because of the way that line was delivered. They have completely effed that up so shame on the team for ruining that for us saw fans.
Mirzapur (2018)
I am hooked
I love this genre of gritty action and Murzapur does not disappoint.
Powerful and gripping storyline , excellent direction and acting, love the title track and cinematography is exceptional.
Absolutely in love with this series.
Sherni (2021)
Everything but the sher
What a drag. Super boring and total waste of time.
The Tomorrow War (2021)
Enjoyed it.
Kept us on the edge of the seats. Good action sequences and CGI was not bad.
The Girl on the Train (2021)
The producer and director should be sued
The producer and director should be sued for spoiling a great book and a half bad (English version) movie into a complete disaster.
Parineeta is generally a good actor but even she couldn't save this crash in slow motion in fact she has done pretty bad herself.
Sherdil (2019)
I really wanted to like this movie
I missed Sherdil in cinemas and was desperately waiting for it to be released on a streaming service. Finally got a chance to watch it on prime and what a disappointing experience it was.
Poor acting, poor direction and a typicall story line. Whoever thought that playing Spirit Background score on cheap casio keyboard is a good idea for Background music must me tied to the rear end of a jet engine with AB engaged.
Fomedy was predictable and the actors couldn't hide their discomfort in whats expected to be a relax sitcom situation.
The only saving grace were the CG shots and cinematography which is top class and seems to be wasted on a very poor movie.
The Witcher (2019)
Really disappointed
I have not read the book nor played the games so the story and the characters are completely new to me. I (like many) started watching for two reasons
1. The great ratings and viewing numbers
2. To fill the void created when GOT finished ( a lot of reviews did point that out)
Few minutes in to the first episode and both reasons went out of the window.
I will start with the positives. Cinematics, CGI, fight sequences and music are good. Unfortunately that's where the positives end.
A weak and incoherent storyline forms the foundation of everything that's bad with this series, add to that random jumps in the story line, dreadful dialogues, poor characters and even worse character development. The biggest downside is the acting (if you can call it that), most actors lack experience while pretending otherwise. There is a lot of overacting. There are a few actors who try to do a better job but are not able to shine because of the poor and equally over the top direction .
Overall you get a feeling that the team had the right intentions but somehow missed the mark by overdoing things. The series lacks the punch.
I dont want to do this comparison but if you are watching this series due to GOT withdrawal symptoms then please don't. It will leave you with a bad taste in mouth.
The King (2019)
From very slow to "wait is it over"
Th first half of the movie was very slow (justifiable), the second half felt rushed. It appears to be a low budget film and that showed in terms of battles, sets and choice of actors.
Acting was mostly decent and battle(s) gritty but I was left with a feeling like somebody removed the plate before I finished the meal.
Rattlesnake (2019)
Feels like it was playing in slow motion
The concept was good but it definitely was not enough to cover 1:30 minutes. So the film makers decided to make it so slow it felt like 2:30 minutes. Pan shots take ages and going from point A to B is painfully slow. The music does not help as well.
Overall skip it if you can or watch it when you are struggling to go to sleep, it might help.
Collateral Beauty (2016)
Fell in love with this movie
A beautiful story complimented by amazing acting and brilliant direction.
This shot straight to my top 10 movies of all time
Maatr (2017)
Don't waste your time.
Half the bad guys just died on their own. A pointless movie. Would have have been better to wait and let all of them die a natural death
Dark (2017)
Not sure about time travel but definitely a time waster
I take back what I said in my last review. Kept watching and it gets better infact it gets brilliant
Thackeray (2019)
A very glorified version of a very controversial personality
I did not find the storyline very accurate. It is a perspective and I cannot argue with that but it does appear that this was more of an attempt to glorify a controversial figure. A lot of facts were glossed over and it almost seemed like every act that did not live up to the current moral standards or laws have been justified (unsuccessfully in most cases).
Nawazuddin was brilliant (as usual) however the rest of the acting, story line and direction was mediocre at best. His wife's role played by Amrita was exceptionally poor. Her acting reminded me of children playing an old person in school plays. Overall there was nothing that would impress you enough to watch the second part.
