Black Adam (2022)
6/10
Decent Superhero movie just not a Black Adam Story
23 October 2022
Black Adam was one of my highly anticipated movies of the year for me and it delivered on some aspects while others did not.

One thing I will say about this movie was that it was entertaining, The Action was really awesome and sort of reminded me of Man of Steel's action set pieces that felt big, spectacular, and visually striking. The action scenes were really the best part of this movie and every time Black Adam was in an action scene it felt exciting and not just the Black Adam action scenes but characters like Doctor Fate, Hawkman, Cyclone and Atom Smasher all had good action scenes.

Big credit to Jaume Collet-Serra, the man knows how to direct stellar action scenes and not just the action the visuals and CGI in this movie were just beautiful and some even jaw-dropping. The visuals involving Doctor Fate especially were great along with Cyclone too. This movie was clearly one of the most visually impressive Superhero movies I've ever watched including the action.

The characters overall were decent, I was really looking forward to Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate and he was the best character for me. Pierce Brosnan gave a really good performance and every time Doctor Fate was on screen it Felt special, and his chemistry with Hawkman (Hawkman was a decent character as well and his action scenes vs Black Adam were some of the best parts of the movie,Aldis Hodge gives a good performance too) was nice also scenes between Cyclone and Atom Smasher were charming.

Now for Black Adam himself, The Rock has the perfect look for Black Adam I think he was the perfect casting and in this movie he does give a good performance, he's intense, funny at times and sympathetic but my Number one issue with this movie is that it's NOT A BLACK ADAM STORY. As someone who reads comics, it's kinda disappointing to see this version of Black Adam, They go more with the heroic route not exactly the FULL Anti Hero route either when in the comics he starts off as a pure villain then works his way to being more of an Anti-Hero whereas in this he starts off as an Anti-Hero and ends up in this weird mix between Hero/Anti-Hero they fully don't commit to either which is jarring for the story and kind of won't make sense if he were to go up against Shazam or Superman in the future with the story they told.

Also, some moments felt like I was watching a Marvel movie(not the good kind), like some of the humor felt corny and awkward and honestly, Superhero movies/Hollywood movies kinda need to stir away from MCU awkward/forced humor and come up with something unique. I mean it dealt with humor well for the most part and better than recent Marvel movies to be honest just some scenes felt corny and awkward, especially for a DC movie. Also the villain was generic and shoehorned in the last act of the movie too but the action scenes between the main villain and JSA/Black Adam were good.

Another point is characters like Amon and Adrianna Tomaz who were connecting to Black Adam were decent but turned into annoying characters at times especially the Kid who had a fanboy relationship with Black Adam was annoying similar to Ironman 3 with some scenes between The Kid and Black Adam being the worst scenes in the movie. The tone of Black Adam was balanced mostly well between serious moments and comedic scenes despite the awkward humor and corniness in some scenes as I mentioned and the pacing was really well done too between the story and action.

So overall despite my complaints about the average to the sometimes mediocre story, awkward humor and some corny scenes I was mostly entertained with this movie the action was honestly great to epic at times. The visuals and CGI were great and stunning at times. Characters like Doctor Fate, Hawkman, Karim(who was the comic relief) who was funny and the Rock as Black Adam who does a good job portraying Black Adam and pulls off the look of comic Black Adam, and his action scenes were amazing despite not really being a comic accurate Black Adam story and ends up being this weird mix between Hero/Ant-Hero.

I HAD FUN though which is the most important part and for the first time in a long time I have hope for the future of the DCEU and finally, the post-credit scene alone is a 10/10!!

Uncharted (2022)

We've finally entered the Era of decent Video Game Adaptions
25 February 2022
I'm going to be honest, I didn't know what to expect from this, from the trailers it looked like your typical action-adventure but you never know from video games adaptions given their not-so-good track record but I'm glad to say I enjoyed this for the most part.

The performance from Tom Holland as Nathan Drake was good, really it was never gonna be a spot on reflection from the games but as the feel is concerned Tom Holland put in a good performance that makes you feel he is playing Nathan Drake in this case a younger Nathan Drake from the games, and that's all I wanted cause I was concerned he was gonna simply act as himself or a typecast of Peter Parker (not saying he does this is all his movies as he has proven to be a very good actor, especially from his acting roles from No Way Home, Cherry or Devil All The Time) but that wasn't the case as he goes do a decent job of portraying Nathan's charm, humor, confidence and off-brand witt from the games.

However, although I did enjoy seeing Mark Wahlberg as Sully onscreen I felt like his portrayal of Sully was a mixed bag goes he goes in and out of the role. For example, when he is first introduced in the movie he does do a decent job in playing Sully(a young version of him I keep forgetting lol) and genuinely puts in effort but in some parts of the movie it seems like he just acts as himself(the loud talking, quick witted and often erratic roles Mark Wahlberg is known for) and that might rub some fans the wrong way, I wouldn't say he was miscast but it was jarring to see but his saving grace was the chemistry with him and Tom Holland as Sully and Nathan was charming and very good and captured their banter and mirrored their relationship in the games quite a bit. Antonio Banderas although it is a joy to see him on screen he plays your generic bad guy who has Daddy issues and kills without a thought and that was disappointing so see, also Tati Gabrielle who played another villain showed some signs of being a badass was just another generic bad guy weak motivations. Also, Sophia Ali as Chloe was decent and she worked well with Tom and Mark.

The Story is nothing special as it's your typical adventure/treasure hunt but the games were really never known for their storytelling but its unique characters, set pieces and epic action-adventure and although the movie isn't perfect in hitting all those notes it does do a good job of capturing the set pieces and adventure aspect of the games to a decent amount and you can see Sony did their homework and put some care into this project and it's quite entertaining to watch on screen. Although predictable at times, especially some of the twists and turns that the movie tries but you could see from a mile away it had heart to the story as you follow Nate's journey and his motivation to find treasure and his lost brother. Even though it does hit some of the same notes from adventure movies you've seen before I was entertained still cause of the characters mostly Nathan and Sully, the humor was actually pretty well balanced and not forced and funny for the most part. The visual effects and CGI were spot on I mean Sony rarely disappoints on the visual effects on its high-budget movies. The pacing, for the most part, was decent was well balanced but at times it felt kinda slow but it wasn't a major problem and the action was decent and there were some memorable stunts too especially from Tom Holland's action set-pieces as Nathan Drake, especially in the third act was enjoyable and high energy and some pretty decent nods and references to the games too.

So as I stated Uncharted at the end of the day is not the Perfect video game adaption that will blow everyone's mind but considering the low amount of good video game movies I'm glad this is a decent movie that I rather enjoyed from the performances from Tom Holland and his chemistry with Mark Wahlberg as Nathan and Sully, the humor and mostly entertaining action and set pieces. Although generic at times this is a success for Sony and a step in the right direction for the future of Video Game Movie adaptions.

Dune (2021)
7/10
I respect this movie but definitely not for me
22 October 2021
Before watching this movie i expected it to be slow paced, patient and visually stunning movie coming from Denis Villeneuve and mostly i was right and it it a good movie but did it live up to the hype for me...no

The first half of this movie was a slow burn, took its time with the story-telling,lingering shots character introductions and mainly focused on world building complimented with amazing visual shots from Denis Villeneuve and although i enjoyed some aspects of the world building, great visual effects and scenery and the mystery of the story and Paul Atreides' involvement in it, the first half of Dune was mostly uninteresting to me especially with mostly average characters(more on that later).

The second half however picks up with the pace and delivers the sci-fi epic that i wanted with good action, amazing set pieces and i know i've said it before and i'm gonna say it again THIS MOVIE WAS VISUALLY AMAZING and directed well but most importantly the story and pacing started to gel together well too along with the mystery aspect of the movie kept me kinda hooked but still had problems with paper thin character arcs and the when the movie is getting really interesting it ends abruptly.

Now on the characters, besides Timothée Chalamet's character Paul Atreides who is the protagonist of the movie, i didn't feel an emotional connection with most of the characters most of them didn't have interesting arcs if any at all and it's not because of the acting, i mean look at the cast of this movie it's impressive and there wasn't any poor acting performance in sight all the actors gave their all in their roles but that can only carry yoy so far if i did'nt care for the characters. The most interesting characters were Duke Leto Atreides, Lady Jessica Atreides and Duncan Idaho(Jason Mamoa was the only one who looked like he was having fun in the movie and was badass too) and was the second best character of the movie. Zendaya wasn't really in this movie as i thought she would be even though it's implied heavily she is integral to the story but that payoff doesn't really happen. The villains were your typical bad guy villain with average motivations although Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen was creepy.

For the protagonist Timothée Chalamet gives a good performance as usual. Paul Atreides' story and journey was your typical hero journey although it's uniquely told as his arc is full of mystery as doesn't really get resolved by the end of the movie but i liked the dynamic between him and his parents especially the beginning with his father which was a cool moment.

So with Dune being a slow burn, patient movie and average characters it relies heavy on the plot and story-telling for it to be a success and for me personally i feel it wasn't enough to make up for the flaws i had with Dune like the heavy slow paced and kinda boring first half, not feeling invested with most of the characters and some of the world around Dune feeling mostly empty for a sci-fi but i did enjoy the second half more, the action was well directed, the acting performances were really good and the movie is a visual joy to experience thanks to Denis Villeneuve's directing complimented with good cinematography and some aspects of the score(kinda annoyed me at times but it was mostly good). I think it's a good movie but it's just not for me at the end of the day.

I respect the unique take it has especially with the movie being released in Hollywood nowadays so i think this movie is necessary but personally might not watch it again.

This movie gave me exactly what i wanted
28 March 2021
The thing that I wanted from Godzilla vs Kong was just some really epic action, some decent human characters and uhh GODZILLA VS KONG TO HAVE FIGHT AN EPIC FIGHT and the movie delivered that. The monster verse has been up and down for me but overall decent. I thought Godzilla (2014) was good, the human characters were pretty decent and I liked the tone but Godzilla didn't show up most of the time and teased him way too often and the end result wasn't satisfying enough. Kong: Skull Island had really good fights, I enjoyed seeing Kong in all his glory but the human characters were just bland and the second half was slow. Then Godzilla: King of the Monsters was just slightly above average, the human characters were beyond bland and generic and this time we see a lot of Godzilla but the monster fights weren't really that jaw-dropping.

Now there's Godzilla vs Kong, the pacing was really well done, it has the best pacing of the Monster Verse movies so far, and felt like an adventure action movie, you didn't spend too much time on human characters and the plot had a narrative and moved from point A to B really well, nothing felt rushed or bogged down too much. Then the human characters were pretty decent and at this point I wasn't looking for amazing character development or anything I just didn't want to be bored when I watched the human story and they delivered on that. The little girl who has a connection to Kong was good, I enjoyed seeing her relationship to Kong and their development that produced some good moments between the two. Alexander Skarsgård and Rebecca Hall were fine in this movie, they each had a story and they weren't bland and they delivered some funny lines too.

Some characters though were pretty generic and bland for example Eiza González's character was generic and forgettable, Demián Bichir was very corny and cartoony and also Brian Tyree Henry who played a ratio host/conspiracy theorist had some funny lines at times but was often annoying and had some forced humor in the movie, him and Julian Dennison tried to be funny but at times came off as annoying. Kyle Chandler who played a more prominent role in the last Godzilla movie was just there is this one and lastly the story with Millie Bobby Brown slowed the movie down at times and her story felt too corny for this movie.

The tone was also done well for the most part, when thing got serious especially with the fights you could feel the intensity and humor for the most part was handled well expect for some few moments that had forced humor but wasn't a major downside for the movie. Now let's talk about the action, when Kong and Godzilla fought it was epic the movie delivered exactly what I wanted from this movie, especially the last act of the movie was just non-stop action and it wasn't too much to the point you got bored. Without spoiling the last fight where Godzilla and Kong fought exceeded my expectations and the visuals and shots were well done and is undoubtedly the best action in the monster verse and they didn't cut away from the big monster fights like Godzilla (2014) did and there were a lot of epic moments. The visuals and CGI were great and well directed including some beautiful scenery and as I said it felt like an adventure movie at time and what's an adventure movie without some beautiful shots. I am glad Adam Wingard the director redeemed himself for that Death Note movie.

Out of the two monsters Kong was the best in terms of narrative, he the better story of the two and connected to the human characters in a way that made sense and really felt something for Kong compared to Godzilla who I have felt little to nothing for in his past movies simplify because he has had the least human to monster connection in his last two movies and here he is a villain so that just made him more of a generic monster however that's all made up for when he fights cause it's amazing. Also without spoiling anything there is a surprise in this movie in the 3rd act that delivers some really nice action and moments too.

Although this movie had some silly parts especially with scenes involving Brian Tyree Henry and Julian Dennison who tried too hard to be funny, some forgettable and generic characters, Godzilla not being able to connect or contribute to the story or character connections and the plot slowing down a bit at times, the main thing was that this movie was fun, exciting and delivered on the action especially the big fight between Godzilla vs Kong (and there is a definitive winner, so more points to this film) that exceeded my expectations, decent human characters and some a few surprises, this was a good movie, easily the best movie and well-rounded of the monster-verse.

Artemis Fowl (2020)
4/10
What a weird movie
23 June 2020
This movie was just strange, when i saw the overwhelmingly negative reviews i thought i would hate this movie when i watched it but i don't. Yes it's a bad movie but almost everything about it was strange.

Let's start of with the good. Well Lara McDonnell gave a decent performance as Holly Short, her character had an underdeveloped plot but i liked her performance in the movie. I know i'm in the minority in this but i mostly liked Josh Gad in this movie, yes the narration was unneeded, the grouchy voice was annoying (it's even addressed in the movie) and some of the scenes involving his CGI use was horrible but i enjoyed the charisma and witt he brought in the movie. He played as a tall dwarf and he looked like the only one having fun in that movie so yeah Josh Gad was a silver lining.

The concept and potential was there and interesting as well, the first act was not that bad as you are introduced to the other worlds of Artemis Fowl like the fairy kingdom was an interesting concept and the CGI was decent early in the movie too but that potential was never realized. Being a Kenneth Branagh movie some shots looked nice and well directed AT TIMES with some decent set pieces here and there.

Now the Bad. Ferdia Shaw who played Artemis Fowl had a hammy performance throughout the movie, at times he seemed too monotone and stoic and the other he seemed to be over-acting, it wasn't a terrible performance as he got a lot better during the third act but that was one of the many problems of the movie. Another problem was how scenes seemed to be stitched together and all over the place. Not to give anything away but the majority of the movie takes place in a House.

The runtime is 1hr 30 minutes and it seems some scenes were removed and the pacing was too fast and dodgy as you're not given time to fully flesh out characters and the runtime is just filled with exposition and world building but you're never given time to care about the characters or the plot. Judy Dench also gave a weird performance with a grouchy voice, The CGI got bad real fast and this is a big budget movie mind you especially with some bad action sequences.

The heist aspect of the movie took a backseat as most of it was explained through narration which took away any thrill or suspense. The villain was awful as he/she has a generic motivation to take over the world and i don't mind that but there is no backstory or any reason to be invested in the villain so it just ends up being generic movie bad guy 101 oh and he/she has a grouchy voice, i have no idea why this movie had an obsession with grouchy voices.

Colin Farrell as Artemis' father had the potential to be an interesting character but as soon as you're introduced to him, he is immediately gone. The adventure aspect is also poorly executed and the way how the main conflict is resolved is just baffling.

Like i said the whole movie was strange, Also some scenes drag on and we are talking about a 1hr 30 minute movie here and the story never goes to interesting places and again you never care for the characters. So overall, didn't hate his movie, but it's not a good movie by any means.

Joker (I) (2019)
9/10
When people say the DC universe is dark, this is what it should mean.
7 October 2019
Now I'm not gonna say that Joker was a psychological masterpiece and that it showcased the true art of cinema or some crap like that. For me Joker was great because it was different, it took its time to make you understand the character of Arthur Fleck and unravel the plot, had interesting things to say about society and wasn't pandering to the audience and it made me smile.

First off to get it out of the way let me address the so called "controversy" of this film in my opinion. To me for the most part I never really saw any controversy, I knew going in that Joker was a villain and I expected the movie to show me the violent acts of the Joker character and yes some of the violence is brutal but was never glorified or overblown like in some R-rated movies(lookin at you Hellboy, no cap)Sure most of the movie was leaning towards making you feel sympathy towards Arthur Fleck even though he did violent and terrible things but the movie made it known that Joker was a villain and had mental health issues that makes him the way he is, along with the tragic events that happen throughout his life but the purpose of the movie was to show you how someone can go from being a normal person and be broken by life and turn into a psychopath, and the volience and themes show that.

Okay now let's move on to the performances, I'm sure you've heard it somewhere and I'm gonna say it again Joaquin Phoenix was dope playing the role of Arthur Fleck/Joker. I usually don't care for the oscars but I would like this man to win one. Joaquin made me feel sympathy for Arthur throughout the movie and potrayed Arthur's mental health issues perfectly and when he turned into the Joker...I enjoyed his performance man. Robert Deniro as Murray Franklin (a talk show host) was good, Frances Conroy as Penny Fleck (Arthur's mother) also gave a convincing performance as well. Brett Cullen as Thomas Wayne was also interesting as the movie gave a very different version of Thomas Wayne from other Batman related movies. The character of Thomas Wayne was almost cruel and colder than any other versions from the comic or movies and I appreciated that a lot especially interactions between him and Arthur Fleck.

Zazie Beetz as Sophie was meh I mean she didn't give a bad performance by any means it's just that she was used for a certain plot point and twist that I saw coming from a mile away and I felt that her arc or character even was unneeded and her contribution to Arthur's story would have been fine without her character.

One thing I was worried about was that people in the movie were going to be unrealistically cruel to Arthur, however that wasn't the case the movie handled that part pretty well and again I appreciated that. The story of Arthur becoming Joker took its time and didn't rush his transformation, the movie really made you understand Arthur's life, his dreams, mental state, relationships with certain people and his interactions before everything turns upside down and starts doing Joker ish. Arthur's downfall was heartbreaking to watch and you felt the consequences of being cruel to other people but also some effects of mental health issues.

However although I really liked that the movie took its time with the story and was really patient....I don't really like the slow burn feel to this movie , its just not my cup of tea and it's not that i require an action sequence every 15 minutes it's just that some movies take unnecessary time and energy trying to deepen the story or character motivations and the pace of the movie can become very slow and drag on. Joker was never 100% boring to me but there were times that the movie almost became a drag to watch.

The third act alone is a solid 10/10 you not only get to see the Joker character in full force but the themes that the movie was trying to convey come full circle, it became brutal, almost heartbreaking, tense and wild. Especially with its themes about people being unnecessarily cruel to one another, not considering other people around you (not loving your neighbor so to speak). The key theme about how someone can turn evil after a series of bad things happening to someone, being an outcast in society basically how the world can be a cruel place and how some people will break under that pressure (I could go on all day).

Also what I really really liked that the movie never preaches to you or panders to the audience about these themes but mostly uses the show don't tell method almost the entire movie except very few instances whereby the movie tells you it's themes through characters but not in a bad way. Without saying too much my favorite scene of the movie was the interaction between Joker and De Niro's character Murray whereby the movie really shines.

The movie had a dark tone to it and worked really well, the movie wasn't bleak or dark for the sake of being dark and there were some funny moments, not a lot since it was a very serious but had funny moments mostly dark humor I mean it's a Joker movie so there are gonna be laughs. Speaking of laughs the movie did a really interesting thing with Arthur's/Joker's laugh so well done movie. A few nitpicks are that you don't get to see the Joker character for long until the last act of the movie I get it's an origin story but I wished there could have been a little more Joker scenes but it's not a negative point but a wish really. Not many characters were really as interesting as Arthur Fleck or Murray and maybe Penny Fleck. The movie never really reveals that Joker's violent actions are justified or right but it made you understand why someone would do the things he did even if it's not right.

Joker was great, one of the best movies of 2019, one of the best DC and comic book movies of all time. There was a cool tie-in to Batman, had funny some scenes The Arthur Fleck character was amazing, the story was well written, when Arthur became Joker it was really awesome. The movie had really great themes but the movie is slow at times and had some uninteresting characters but what really matters is Joker put a smile on my face.

An OKAY Spider-Man movie is not good enough anymore
25 July 2019
This was a complicated review for me to make not because this movie was complex or anything but simply that I expected more from a Spider-man movie matter of fact a Marvel more. At this stage an okay Spider-Man isn't good enough.

Better I go on a mini rant I can say that Tom Holland does a good job as Spider-Man, the dude is just good at the role. He was the best part of the movie, he nailed the funny parts, awkward teen moments and emotional moments(i'll get into that more later). Another intriguing performance came from Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio, I have always wanted Jake in a Superhero movie and he gives a good performance although there is some corny dialouge he says but that was because of the script not THE MAN - Jake Gyllenhaal. His character had more interesting things to do but thats sort of spoiler territory also the scenes between him and Tom were good. The other cast members were either okay or forgettable. Jon Fanvrou as Happy was fine though he had one amazing scene with Tom Holland. Marisa Tomie was meh she doesn't give a bad performance or anything but so far she's been one forgettable Aunt May in the MCU. Zendeya,Jacob as Ned, Samuel L Jackson were fine. The other high school kids were completely forgettable.

The romance arc between Spider-man and MJ was cute(I guess) it was nothing special but they did the whole teen romance thing well enough. The action was actually good and better than Homecoming, there were some cool memorable action sequences in Far from Home and without spoiling anything, what they did with Spider-sense was dope. One major shoutout to Mysterio though. Far from Home had one great, trippy scene it was awesome and weirder than anything in Doctor Strange, Marvel really went to town with the whole Magician thing. The visual effects were very good and my favorite scene of the movie involved an emotional and heart warming scene between Spider-Man and Happy and I wish the movie could have had more scenes like this. There was also one tiny thought provoking scene near the end that I didn't expect from the movie. Oh and the credit scenes were fire.

Now there villain in this movie was corny and predictable, there's no other way to put it I say the twist from a mile away. I mean the reasoning behind the villain's story was weak but I have to say the consequences from the villain's actions were jaw-dropping (mid-credit scene has the juice) but other than that the villain was average the only saving graces were the consequences of the villain and a couple of interiguing scenes between him/her and Spider-Man and how Spider-Man was challenged by him/her.

Now for all the stuff that bothered me. First off the humor, I am getting tired of Marvel humor man I mean there were some funny scenes in Far from Home but for the most part the humor attempts from Marvel was exhausting and forced . I mean not every scene has to be funny Marvel it felt there were no serious stages at times. The first half of the movie also took kinda long to get going as well and kinda dragged on. Also at times this movie was way too focused on Iron Man I mean I get that Tony Stark is a mentor to Peter Parker but it sometimes distracted from Spider-Man's story. The movie also couldn't focus on its mainline story there was the whole IronMan x Spider-Man storyline, then Peter struggling with being a regular teenager and a Superhero then the whole comedy vacation stuff x Teen Romance. I get that a movie can have multiple layers and arcs and still be an amazing movie but Far from Home could balance the storylines they presented to us. I mean yes I enjoyed Peter's struggle with wanting a normal life and being Spider-Man and how he deals with the IronMan situation while also being treated with some high school comedy but I never felt that Far From Home fully committed to any of those storylines leaving us with an okay story for a Spider-Man movie and again at this stage an OKAY Spider-Man, Marvel movie isn't good enough

I almost disliked Far From Home but when I looked back this movie was just fine, it had good performances from Tom Holland and Jake Gyllenhaal, some dope action sequences and amazing visual effects, some funny scenes and some interesting story elements and the emotional scene between Peter and Happy makes Far From Home a fun pop-corn flick but the overall subpar story, average villain, cringey and corny scenes, unfunny and forced humor and some forgettable cast members brings the movie down a lot leaving us with an above average Spider-Man movie.

Dark Phoenix (2019)
5/10
Just so Meh
10 June 2019
Oh boy these X-Men movies have fallen very far from what they used to be, I mean Fox didn't completely ruin their legacy but since this is most likely the last X-Men movie with this cast let's just say it ended on a very disappointing note.

The story is average at best it revolves around Jean Grey losing control of herself and her powers and becoming the Phoenix, this powerful being from the Marvel Comics and Fox have tried this before with X-Men 3 and we all know how that turned out.

There is very little to remember about this movie and again this is disappointing to say when these X-Men movies from Fox usually have a rich storyline look at First Class or Days of Future past amazing storytelling even Apocalypse which was just an okay movie had a decent storyline. The story was just not interesting and compelling enough, it was just so mediocre and forgettable.

There was with weird plot thread though involving Charles Xavier that I wasn't buying at all. Without saying too much the plot point was about Charles Xavier was always the bad guy in these X-Men movies and he has a massive ego that puts everyone in danger, to be fair there were moments in the movie that made you consider that a bit but when you think of the Past X-Men movies and all he has done for the X-Men it just makes zero sense, I'm all for character evolutions but this "twist" they were going for didn't work and almost contradicted the story involving Charles in other movies.

Also the performances, I really can't say much about the performances which again is disappointing because the cast in this movie is really good there were great performances from James McAvoy(Charles Xavier) and Micheal Fassbender(Magneto) in all X-Men movies they were involved in ,but here they just gave okay performances like there isn't one scene were I can recall an outstanding performance from anyone from the cast members. The X-Men were fine,Mystique was just there and Quicksilver was wasted, the best part about the recent X-Men movies was wasted, well done movie.

The villains were bad and I don't mean Jean Grey I mean the actual villains that were in this movie were extremely forgettable there was a particular motivation for the villains but it was never expanded on and the villains fell very flat, Jessica Chastain who played one of the villains gave a very bleak performance with was supposed to make the villains menacing and cold but came off as dry and the movie didn't seem explore all the necessary features of these villains for them to be interesting or compelling.

Okay the stuff I liked was the action in the closing 2nd and and last act was actually good, I usually don't recall the First Class series for its action scenes but Dark Phoenix had really good actions scenes and probably some of the best action scenes in all of the X-Men movies so Simon Kinberg who wrote and directed this movie, well done on that part, almost every one of the X-Men that were involved in the fight scenes looked cool I have never seen Cyclops in a good action scenes in these X-Men movies but Dark Phoenix did it also Storm looked cool and Magneto come on its Magneto he always does something impressive in these movies. Also the music was decent as well, Hans Zimmer who composed the music did a fine job with the theme music in some scenes especially some of the action sequences. I know I said there wasn't an overall great performance from Dark Phoenix but there wasn't any terrible one either and Charles Xavier was the most compelling character of all of the characters with the story involved. The tone was well balanced there were some little funny bits but the movie maintained this serious tone to it not overly dark but serious (though lacked much emotional storytelling)

The cgi effects were also on point and the mutants powers there well showcased.Lets talk about Jean Grey or Phoenix who the story is based on, this time they tried again and they just can't seem to get this Phoenix story right. First off the story is not too different from X-Men 3 Except dark Phoenix is centered around Jean this time and there are no subplots like in X-Men 3 to slow down the plot. Sophie Turner did the best she could with the story that was there this Jean unlike in X-Men 3 didn't have a split personality where by there was a good Jean and an Evil Jean, Dark Phoenix's Jean was more confused and overwhelmed with all the powers she had and didn't know how to control her powers so and this lead to her freaking out most of the time and losing control of herself and her powers, was this the best way to reintroduce the Dark Phoenix story, no not at all. However the Jean Grey character had a very cool showcase of her powers near the end of the movie which was fun to see.

The First act was decent it introduced the characters nicely and the plot really quickly but after that the movie was just slow and dry especially in the 2nd act were the villains started to show up but didn't really improve much then the third act with was the best part of the movie with exciting action and some story elements connecting nicely I guess and the epic moments that were supposed to happen as well as dramatic moments fell flat as well.

Look did i think this movie was bad , no it's not bad at all it's not Fan4stic or Batman and Robin but at this stage this type of movie isn't good enough Fox hasn't made a really good X-Men movie until Days of Future Past(excluding Logan), Apocalypse was okay and Dark Phoenix is just so mediocre and rather lazy. If this is the last X-Men movie with this cast then I'm really glad Fist Class and Days of Future Past were made but Dark Phoenix was not the end I had hoped for.

There Will Never Be Another Movie Like This
11 May 2019
Usually the phrase came full circle is used way to often without meaning but in the sense of Avengers: Endgame Marvel did just that, wrapping up 10 years of storytelling and movies all really well. This movie is really once in a lifetime and there will never be another movie like this one.

What I really enjoyed about this movie is that it really took its time with the plot and when the action came it really delivered on all fronts. Sometimes it took too long to get going especially with a 3 hour run time but it was never boring and you just kept getting intrigued with the story elements. When the movie starts it's right off Infinity War and did really well to establish the consequences of the last movie and to let the characters experience the fallout of Infinity War and that was really interesting.

As I said the movie really took its time with it plot sometimes it just felt a little too dragged on as it left the directors wanted to over-establish some plot points instead of just keeping it simple but I wouldn't say it's a major issue it's just that in a 3 hour runtime you don't need to over complicate the plot. However though the story was really fantastic, if I haven't said it before the Russo Brothers are geniuses they managed to wrap up 10 years worth of storytelling in one movie brilliantly from the First IronMan movie till now. They really cared for each character and managed to create resolutions for almost every single one again well done Russo's.

Speaking of characters, obliviously there were a lot characters like Infinity War but Endgame was really about the conclusion of the original six Avengers from IronMan, Black Widow, Captain America, Hulk, Hawkeye and Thor. Each one had an arc and came to satisfying conclusions by the end of the movie. The really surprising performance came from Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye or Ronin who we didn't see on Infinity War and had a really nice story that involved him and his family and the events of Infinity War and how it impacted him. Robert Downey Jr gave the best performance as usual ,Nebula,Ant-Man and Black Widow we're also good in this movie and had one of the more interesting plots of the movie. Captain Marvel was fine. Chemistry between gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr was good as always. In all honesty no one gave a bad performance in this movie they all did really well so that's another plus.

Now Thanos played by Josh Brolin who had a very big role in Infinity War and was a fantastic villain and was one of the best if not the best thing about Infinity War played a small role in Endgame, I mean he was still Thanos he was badass, menacing and obviously had some memorable lines. He wasn't in the movie all that much except for in the beginning and largely shows up at the end of the movie for the final showdown and that was kinda disappointing, but with the story the Russos went for you could understand why he wasn't in it that much but still it was kind of disappointing. Thanos was still a great villain in Endgame all that being said and you could fell The after effects he imposed after Infinity War. Without saying too much Thor and Hulk were the twist characters in this movie I mean they did some surprising stuff with them at first I was like Marvel what did you do but in the case of Hulk it turned out all right but Thor...lets just say I didn't like what they did to him or his arc(if that's what you wanna call it) was disappointing it's like they used hot laughs.

The humor was good for the most part of course this is a Marvel movie so forced humor played a factor(sorry if you keep seeing this in all my Marvel review but it is what it is) especially in the case of Thor I mean Endgame didn't ruin the character of Thor but it's like they were trying to ruin him if that makes sense. There wasn't really a lot of action in the first and second half of the movie maybe one action scene in the second act to keep things fast paced, in fact there were like 2 or 3 action scenes in the whole movie(I'll talk about the final battle just hold on). I mean that was really surprising that a superhero movie managed to keep me intrigued for that much with so little action so again hats off to the Russo's for a compelling and interesting story. Now let's talk about the final battle, yes it was Epic I usually don't describe anything as Epic but the final battle of Endgame was truly a spectacle and I'm glad I got to see it. It was filled with tense moments, awesome comic book action, drama and truly some wonderful surprises, it had it all that I think the final battle was the best action set piece in all of Superhero movie history just truly phenomenal action.

The tone of this movie was lighter than I expected after the events of Infinity War I mean it's not a bad thing, when the movie got dark and serious you felt it. Endgame was part adventure so I guess you'd expect some lighter tones in some aspect but the tone was really well balanced for the most part. The third act was really the best part of the whole movie and I mean the whole last act, there were some nail biting moments, epic action and wonderful storytelling and heart breaking scenes. Without saying too much Endgame delt with Time and some people are already saying that caused major plot holes in the movie and unanswered question were left but for me I didn't mind cause I enjoyed what the did and it came up with some heart warming moments with characters like Thor,Tony Stark and Captain America so I really don't care if there were plot holes or not caused what I saw on screen was wonderful.

So Avengers: Endgame was a really great movie, had awesome characters, an intriguing story, it was fun, had funny humor, fantastic action, really heartbreaking moments and a satisfying conclusion.Sure there were a few things a didn't like for instance some baffling character decisions or some dragged on scenes but for the most part all I have to say in a nutshell, Thank You Marvel.

Shazam! (2019)
7/10
A Fun DC movie With A Lot of Heart
18 April 2019
With movies like Aquaman and Shazam DC are starting to find their footing and I look forward to more from the .

In short the story of Shazam is about this boy with a pure heart gets powers from a wizard, now the movieis not too different from this premise but there is a little twist to it without spoiling much the pure heart thing goes a different direction and I liked that. Billy Batson played by Asher Angel did a good job, the dude is a good actor and him Jack Grazer who played Freddy Freeman, Billy's friend and adopted brother and Zachary Levy carried tnis movie. All of them had charm, wit and had very good emotional scenes when needed. Zachery Levy was good as Shazam you actually believed he was a child in a mans body , he also looked cool, goofy, funny and charismatic in the role so that's a big up.

The side characters like Billy's adopted brothers and sisters were okay until the last act when something really cool happened I didn't suspect with all those characters and DC nalied it perfectly. The action to be honest was subpar and there weren't any memorable action sequences maybe some flashy moments when Shazam used his powers but the action was forgettable not necessarily bad but nothing spectacular. The tone and pacing of the movie was done really good, the overall tone of the movie was light-hearted and fun but emotional and serious when needed to be and you can't ask more than that. The first half took time to flesh out the characters and to have fun,be silly and didn't take itself seriously especially Shazam and Freddy. The move really nailed the concept of "what would a kid do if he had superpowers" and the movie portrayed that point nicely. Although the second half was really slow and the action was underwhelming, the story was great, suprising and slightly unpredictable along with its convincing character development.

Like a said the movie had a lot of heart as you cared for the characters and they motivations, even the villain Doctor Sivana and the story arcs get resolved pretty satisfyingly. Now the villain Doctor Sivana played by Mark Strong had a pretty good story and the beginning of the movie and had a pretty compelling reason to beba villain he just turned out be be meh and generic by the end, Mark Strong was awesome but the character wasn't developed any further.

The movie didn't have anything that was majorly bad but the pacing during the second half of the movie was rather slow and the action overall was underwhelming. Also the CGI was really good throughout the movie until the had to put some CGI on a certain character's muscles with was kinda bad but not completely terrible. The humor was also well timed and funny and not forced unlike some Marvel movies(sorry I just had to say it).

I really enjoyed Shazam it was a very good movie, with a great story, funny comedy and the most interesting thing you can take away is it had heart, not the action or comedy but this DC movie had a lot of heart and I hope more DC movies continue on with this trend.

A decent movie that came out at the wrong time
12 March 2019
This movie has been making all kinds waves hasn't it, both good and bad but really to me all I care about is if I enjoyed it or not and i just have to say I enjoyed MOST of it.Captain Marvel was a good movie.

The critical point I can take away from this movie is that Brie Larsson as Captain Marvel was actually quite good, not amazing but she actually did a fine job as Captain Marvel, from the trailers she came off as dry and a charisma vacuum but thank goodness in the movie she was actually funny, witty and kind of charismatic for most of the movie like the usual Marvel Superheroes. She did however have some dry spells in the movie especially some of the dialogue but that didn't ruin the movie for me.So in short Brie Larson did a good enough job in the role of Captain Marvel.

The best characters by far where Yon-Rogg played by Jude Law and Talos the Skrull leader played by Ben Mendelsohn. Both gave very good performances and had compelling story arcs. While Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury was good in the first and second act of the movie, and had great chemistry with Brie Larsson in the 3rd act of the movie Nick Fury become a chump and was rather useless in the movie although I get he is younger and not the Nick Fury we know from other Marvel movies he is just another different person in Captain Marvel which was kind of disappointing.Other characters such as Captain Marvel's friend Maria, the kree police force were fine or were just there and Phil Coulson and Roman were just glorified cameos.

What I liked about the movie was the the pace especially in the first and second act as the movie balanced action and story well. The movie had a fast pace but never too fast and I appreciateed that it didn't have the regular Origin Story formula, however I would have liked for the movie to explore more on Captain Marvel's origins so that I could Care about her character more as there isnt really much character development from Captain Marvel. Of course this is a Marvel movie so it had some funny moments and some uneeded and out of place humor as expected from a Marvel Movie. The skulls were really good in the movie especially Ben's performance as the Skrull leader Talos he was charismatic, funny and had an interesting arc. The movie takes an interesting twist involving the skrulls which was nice and made the movie more interesting.

The villain in this movie comes as a surprise in the movie so I won't spoil it but it is a good twist and makes sense so thumbs up for the villain with is rare for Marvel Movies. The action was fine, nothing spectacular but most of the action sequences were solid, they were just fine thats all I have to say about the action. The CGI was also very good especially the deaging process to Samuel L Jackson was very impressive and the effects on Captain Marvel's powers were cool especially when she had the helmet on it was bad ass.

Now by biggest issue with the movie and what I didn't enjoy was the 3rd act in this movie, my gosh especially the last 30 minutes were just disappointing. There were some bland action sequences, unfunny scenes and it was just the generic Marvel last third fight scene. Now one of the complaints from people is that the character of Captain Marvel is overpowered, I never count this as a bad thing if there are high stakes against the character and if the story is interesting. In Captain Marvel's case there was no serious threat in the 3rd act and the story became bland. Now the 3rd act wasn't that terrible but was just too generic and uninteresting and also really lazy.

Also speaking of lazy some of the dialogue was so cringey sometimes thankfully it was just a small bit but it was still noticeable and although I didn't want to speak on this the feminism and sjw aspect people are complaining about in Captain Marvel, I myself didn't care on those issues and although some of it is in the movie in sprinkles it wasnt preachy or anything as some people are exaggerating. It was noticeable but didn't make the movie bad.

Although I have to say in some scenes involving Captain Marvel especially scenes involving the past when she was being looked down appon, underestimated or bullied it was rather exaggerated and felt forced at times which made me cringe and didn't make me care about Brie Larsson's character at all.it was in small parts thankfully.

In terms of being Marvel's first female lead Superhero movie this was a fine(OK) attempt I guess.I mean this movie was mostly made to inspire little girls and look up to this character, you can say it did its job.

So Captain Marvel was a good movie, not a perfect movie at all and had a bland 3rd act the movie was still fun, funny and was mostly enjoyable.so am I excited to see Captain Marvel in Avengers: Endgame, no but i'm hopefull Marvel will improve this character and make her worth to watch and please if you haven't seen the movie go watch it for youself and come up with your own opinion.

Aquaman (2018)
7/10
Is this the start to the Rise of DC
2 January 2019
I liked Aquamam it was big, colorful, fun and overall an enjoyable DC superhero movie however it did have some significant flaws.

I can say that Aquamam was DC's most ambitious movie to date and they nailed most. The first act of the movie is pretty solid you get some backstory on Author Curry, some nice foundation for the plot and interesting interactions between Aquamam and the villain Black Manta earlier on which the movie does a good job of making you understand his motivations for hating Aquamam and wanting to kill him and Makes Aquamam reconsider some of his actions regarding Black Manta which was some nice writing.

The second act of the movie was surprisingly the weakest just when the story was about to kick into gear the movie gets goofy I mean characters like Mera and Aquaman become cartoony and silly as the movie's attempts to make you laugh becomes forced and awkward I mean there is literally toilet humor in this movie. It looked like two different people were directing the movie compared to the first half of the movie. Even characters like Black Manta became campy with him saying some weird dialogue. I wouldn't say the second act is terrible but compared to the first act of the movie it's just not as good.Luckily the movie comes into focus in the last third of the movie with some very good action, compelling story and surprisingly great CGI throughout the movie and some of the best I've seen in a long while.

The best characters in the movie were undoubtedly Aquaman and Mera. Jason Mamoa and Amber Heard had nice chemistry with each other even in the goofy scenes, Aquaman's journey to becoming King was well done as the movie made you understand why he reluctant to be King and how Aquaman's character grew throughout the movie especially with the help of Mera who also has a good mini arc in the movie and she had some badass scenes in the movie and again her best moments was with Aquaman as they went well together.

The villain Ocean Master played by Patrick Wilson was bland, I mean they could have done much more with him but as the movie went on he became just another generic bad guy. Earlier in the movie he had some decent reasons for wanting to have War with the surface and had some good interactions between him and Aquaman since their brothers but you never got to see more of that. Patrick Wilson's performance wasn't even bad it was actually decent but the story involving him didn't have anything significant to do besides being evil because he is a bad guy.

Like I said earlier the visuals were incredible and very colorful especially with the scenes under water and the sea creatures i never knew James Wan was capable of directing a movie with such incredible visuals and great CGI so one thing you could say about Aquaman is that it was truly a spectacle at times. Atlantis and other sea kingdoms looked pretty good and contributed to the story well however sometimes these under water kingdoms like Atlantis felt empty at times I mean it looked interesting but you never got to see more of it besides action scenes and water battles which was kind of disappointing. The action was also very good again the visuals helped make the action good at times especially the final battle it wasn't the best thing ever but it was very nice.

The story is pretty solid and Aquaman's journey is interesting as he deals with responsibilities he doesn't want to have but he grows over time into a hero and despite being campy at times the movie has some pretty funny scenes so that's another plus.So I enjoyed Aquaman it's DC best movie since Wonder Woman not as great but still a pretty good movie with a solid story, great CGI and visuals and characters despite a bland villain and silly second act. Hope this continues for DC movies.

Sony surprises me with the best Spider-Man movie since Spider-Man 2
24 December 2018
To be honest I didn't know what to expect from this movie it came from a studio that made amazing Spider Man films like SpiderMan 1 and 2. Then Sony made mediocre and almost bad films with The Amazing Spider-Man series and SpiderMan and Sony's animation films are hit and miss but some how they nailed it with this one.

First off the visuals and animation were amazing at first I thought it would be jarring but that wasn't the case as usually films which try to do movies in comic book style usually fails...cough Hulk(2003)cough.but luckly this is an animation movie so it works brilliantly so well done Sony. The characters in this movie are also well fleshed out and contributed to the story significantly in one way or another.Miles Morales and Peter Parker and Spider-Gwen were the best characters and each were a delight to watch, funny and more. And shout out to (spiderman) the peter parker voice actor who usually acts in comedy did great voice work for Peter Parker and I can confirm is very different to what you see in love action films but really captures the feel of Spiderman.

The movie was really bold as well from the different visuals the story involving parallel dimensions and universes which worked because you could see from glimpse that every universe felt different and unique. Also the film felt really mature even from a PG movie it felt like a hardcore PG film with its themes, drama and consequences especially the Kingpin charcter and a heartbreaking arc involving Peter Parker and I for one enjoyed that. The music was also nice.

Miles Morales who the story is based on is a good lead from the voice acting and up. You could see the struggle he was dealing with trying be Spiderman and the responsibility of it and that's what Spidernan has always been about with great power comes.....you know the line. His character grows and develops over time as he dealt with the trails and tribulations of being Spiderman and by the end it payed off which was nice to see. The main Villain Kingpin had a compelling reason for his evil actions and has kind of intimidating a bit like like the Netflix Kingpin, which was a really mature take on a pg movie so agian another plus for the movie although there some generic bad guy things and dumb decisions that villians make in this movie but since its a kids movie i'll just let it slide.

The other Spiderman people were really good too like Spiderman Noir, Spiderham and Pennie Parker were really entertaining with the screen time they were on though sometimes they felt have much variety sometimes compared too Spider Gwen,Peter Parket or Miles Morales. The action is pretty good as well and its done well with the comic book style animation as words or phrases would pop up on the screen like a comic book so that was fun and the comedy was really well timed and hasn't forced unlike the MCU movies it balanced the drama and humor aspect well in the movie.

However my biggest gripe about the movie is that some character arcs weren't would fully resolved or plot holes per say especially for Miles Morales' Dad and his Uncle I cant go into details without spoiling but there was an issue that happened that semed it was forgotten about and never fully solved. Also just minor nitpicks is that you dont get to see Miles Morales be Spiderman for really long or really show off what he can do but I understand its an origin story so its understandable and sometimes the movie wanted to do some fourth wall breaking like Deadpool but only in minor moments which felt kind of out of place.

So in the end there was very little wrong with this movie, I enjoyed almost every bit of it. It was funny, fun, colorful with really good animation, bold art style, amazing characters, blanced humor, great lessons about responsibility and courage and the drama was really well and was just an overall great movie. So again Well done Sony for making one of the best Spiderman movies ever and one of the best films of 2018.

Venom (2018)
6/10
Not a turd in the wind
10 October 2018
I liked Venom it was a fun, exciting time and if anyone hasn't seen it they should go and watch it for themselves and come up with their own opinion of the movie.

Now what I liked MOST about Venom was not the action, nor the CGI or the Venom character itself but the way how the movie sets up the Eddie Brock character in the beginning of the movie and the world around him before the Venom craziness happens, now it's nothing Oscar worthy like that but it was really well done and I always appreciate when Superhero movies builds up the character development of the main protagonist and this is the movie's strength as it makes you sympathize and understand Eddie Brock's character before the comic book stuff happens and y'all already know Tom Hardy brings his all to the role.

The supporting cast was also fine it was a small cast and it worked for the movie especially Michelle Williams who played Eddie's girlfriend how was fine in the role and thankfully she wasn't some damsel in distress and was significant to the story. The humour was also well done in the movie as the movie does a better job of handling humour better than most Marvel Studio movies as in no way did I feel that the humour was out of place at all and with the funniest character being Tom hardy as Eddie Brock's encounters with the Venom symbiote at the beginning would make some funny interactions with other characters. The action was very fun especially with chase scene that would make the Mission impossible movies proud.

For the Venom character before I say anything else yes Tom hardy's portrayal of Venom was better than Topher Grace's performance in Spider-Man 3. Venom was awesome he looked great, the voice was also great, most of the action scenes involving Venom were exciting, brutal and fun and funny...yes funny. Also, the way how they explained the Symbiotes was fine with the movie explaining its origins, weaknesses and characteristics. Another very important this was that not once did I wish for Spider-Man to be in the movie (would have been awesome if he was in tin though) as the movie does a believable job of telling Venom's story without Spider-Man and the movie was fine without the R-rating nuff said.

What I did like about the movie or the "bad thing" about Venom was mostly the third half I don't know what happened but the last 40 minutes the movie was rushed had clunky action scenes and let me not get into the final battle or sequence of the movie cause it was just a big CGI mess with Venom vs Riot which was very hard to focus on especially with the movie being 3D,also some big plot holes involving characters happen and the villain...oh boy the villain, now Riz Ahmed who was the villain wasn't the problem the movie was, Riz character Drake had an okay reason for being a villain but it was never expanded on and ended up being a generic villain and another forgettable Superhero movie villain and when he became Riot the other symbiote character(Venom's enemy) it didn't help as his interactions with Venom were cheesy as hell and again the action scenes were clunky and messy.

The second half wasn't as nearly as good as the first half of the movie with very little down time as you are being thrust into action scene after action like a Michael Bay Transformers movie. The time management in the second half was messy and rushed to say the least. There was a very weird scene between Venom and Eddie that happened (you'll know when you see it) and the story just wraps up outta nowhere as well.

So, to conclude Venom is a fun movie with fun action scenes, good humour, a well-done performance by Tom Hardy, and cool end credit scene however the last third of the movie was rushed and clunky. As I said if you haven't seen it yet go see it and come up with your own opinion.

Marvel's Back to The Future
26 July 2018
After Avengers: Infinity War I was worried that anything that would come after for Marvel would be underwhelming but I was wrong because AntMan and the wasp used the same formula as the last Ant man movie which was that it was a small story and a family oriented story inside a superhero movie.

The Whole premise is Janet Van Dym Hank Pym's wife is trying to get saved from the Quantam while AntMan is underhouse arrest. The story was simple enough and built Aroundt which is why it was so good.

The first act was a tad slow but not boring is it set up where the characters are and had some fun action especially with the introduction of the Wasp. The second act was a kind of boring with the pace diping and nothing exciting happening. The third act picked up the pace and the chunk of the action was in the last 30 minutes so that was my favorite part. The villain or antagonist of the movie Ghost wasn't bad but not really that interesting she has a reason to be there but didn't add anything significant with the plot expect for fancy powers which made for good effects.Michael Douglas' performance amd Pual Rudd were the best characters in the movie as they were serious when needed to be and funny when needed to be.The Wasp as I said was cool with as a good enough performance from lilly.Michelle Pfeiffer did well in the role she was given and had good chemistry in the scenes she had with Michael Douglas.

Antman and the Wasp was funnier than the first one but of course its Marvel but It had some out of place humor that took away from the serious moments but of course again its Marvel. This had more action as well but mainly in the last 40 minutes or so because as I said the second act was mostly slow and kind of dragged on.

So what to take away from all of this is that Antman and the wasp is similar to Back to the Future its funny, has a story with a heart and just a plain fun blockbuster.

Deadpool 2 (2018)
8/10
Dubstep never dies
4 June 2018
When Josh Brolin said in an interview that Deadpool 2 was funnier was the first Deadpool I thought it was some promotion BS but was i glad I was wrong Deadpool 2 was funnier and more action packed than the first Movie.

Before I say what I enjoyed about Deadpool I would just like tonsay although DP2 is funnier and more action packed it is not better than the first one and I will talk about that.First off the first act of this movie was weird ot feels like the movie is transitioning from the first movie even thought it uses from jokes from the first movie and surprisingly they work throughout the film.Although something emotional happens in the first act involing Deadpool and Mellisa's character Vanassea it felt like the director or writers did not know how to fully utilize until the later stages of The second act of the movie. Although I have to say again again Ryan Reynolds Performance as Deadpool is Great and is never boring throughout the movie. When the movie starts to go into the second act the story felt more clear and focused amd the action and humor are amped up with Cable being added to the mix making jokes about Dubstep and Deadpool with his dry humor. The kid in the film firefist potrayed by Blah was okay he had a simple story with was the catalist for the entire movie and the performance was fitting. The second half of the movie is were all the excitinv this happen with all the X-Force stuff amd the do something with X-Force thats hilarious some people may find it dissaponting but for me it was wonder amd Betaz character Domino was kind of badass who had the superpowet of luck with proved to be cinematic The last act of the film was also well done a bit weird but well executed with very funny humor, explosive action Now the villains of the story there was a surprise Villain in the movie that I won't spoil but when whenever tnis villain was onscreen he was awesome and the other viallain which involved firefist and doing these bad experiments was kinda weakni mean you understood why they where villians but it was too generic and weak And then there was the story arc involved the Cable and the kid which was a bit take it or leave it lod of thing but never riuned the experience of the movie at all. The story may have felt of in the first act of the movie the story became more focused in the second act and again the movie is very funny on certain scenes i was literary crying from laughing even thought this certain basic instinct moment happened with was a bit much the movie was still great and the action was better and more epic. The returning characters like Colossus were also good in the film so that gets an up.And again Ryan Reynold performance was great the man can do no wrong as Deadpool. So Deadpool 2 was not as amazing as the first movie it was still fresh, enjoyable, funny and i cant wait for more.

It has all led to this
1 May 2018
Avengers: infinity War has been 10 years in the making from easter eggs, references and hints to this very movie throughout all of the MCU and it was all worth it.The Story was well written and thorough, the cast put on good performances, the action scenes were epic, the tone of the movie was one point and it was just an awesome experience.

From the beginning of the it starts of with an intense tone, action packed and yet that contained that Marvel humor and this happens consistently throughtout the film almost near to perfection, thanks to The Russo Brothers directing this continuing their success from Captain America:Winter Soldier and Civil war.The first act was amazing as the movie introduced it's characters swiftly and didn't feel rushed at all with some clever writing and stellar action and gorgeous visual effects.Characters like Ironman.Doctor Strange,Spiderman and Thanos are great from the get go.You really felt there was a genuine danger unlike other Marvel films.

The second act continued with this momentum as you are introduced to more characters like the Guardians,Captain America and more and the movie expands on the villain's plan and motivation as Thanos was a great villain, the best marvel villain if not then at least Top 3 although his goal was to destroy half the universe which is generic, but the movie clearly explains why he wants to do so and his clear motivations,as Thanos is also intimidating and also rather emotional helped by Josh Brolin's terrific performance as Thanos so is the rest of the cast who do a good job potraying their characters, the best performances coming from Zoe Saldana,Robert Downey Jr,Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Olsen.

However since this was a very long movie the pacing was a bit slow and dragged a bit during the second act,but thankfully not too much and i have to say some of the characters from previous movies didn't get as much screen time as others like Captain America or Black Panther which is kind of disappointing their play a minor role in this big superhero film but but that's understandable as there were so many characters in this movie and The Russo Brothers did a fantastic job of balancing each one right even if it mean't some key characters didn't receive a lot of screen time.

Also i have to say some minor thing bugged me a little without spoiling to much this arc involving the Hulk and Doctor Strange which doesn't get full explanations only because it's convenient to the plot and some of the humor from the Guardians of the Galaxy characters was a bit much because of James Gunn not being majorly involved with the movie but again this doesn't ruin the movie, just some minor issues,.

Now to my favorite part of the film, the last act which was completely bonkers, the actions scenes were wonderful and looked like they came out straight from a comic book, the visuals were dazzling and story accumulated satisfyingly and there was a sense of unpredictability from the movie as the movie was dark, intense yet fun at the same time and the story was left completely wide open for Avengers 4 as it ended with a twist.

In the end i think that this is indeed one of the best comic book movies ever made for sure, the best movie of 2018 so far.It had nearly everything heartbreak,a compelling story, some unpredictability, incredible action, fun humor and more and all i have to say if the wait for this movie was totally worth it.

Same Marvel Concept But Different in Execution
23 February 2018
There are a lot to of things to say about out this movie but first and for most i just have to say this movie was good,i had fun with it and it's what i've come to expect from a marvel movie with a few surprises added. Now not that anything has to do with this but as an African myself i found this movie to be very accurate in it's depictions of Africa and the general culture than recent Hollywood films that have African lore or storylines so that was a nice bonus.

First and foremost what i enjoyed from the movie was the characters this is one of the few movies whereby almost every character no matter main-cast or side cast was done right.I enjoyed Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther,Lupita Nyong'o as Nakia,Micheal B Jordan as Killmonger and special shoutout to Danai Gurira and Letitia Wright as they portrayed their roles very well mostly because i didn't expect them to be so good. Now since this is a Marvel movie we all know there is going to be humor and Black Panther truly did have some funny moments that were well executed and rather unexpected with made the movie more of a fun time to watch,BUT AGAIN since this is a Marvel movie there was some campy and unneeded humor which toke away some of the seriousness of the movie sometimes and just uneven, and it can be disappointing that Marvel still don't know how to balance funny moments and serious moments sometimes.

However the action was very good,Black Panther has some of the most enjoyable action sequences since Captain America: Civil War and i especially liked how some action scenes were gritty and grounded while other fight scenes had more of a comic book movie style which was very fun to see and also a bit different. Now for the story,i personally liked the story not just because it was different than any Marvel movie because of it's cast or location but because it related to the real whole in some aspects and we haven't seen that since Captain America: The Winter Soldier dealing with stuff like politics or social commentary so it was greatly appreciated and needed.

The Villain Killmoger is easily in the Top 5 if not Top 3 of best Marvel villains or best villains in recent superhero movies, because who understood his motives for being the way he is and why he is doing the things he did.Micheal B Jordan was good in the role had felt like a genuine threat to Black Panther and Wakanda and his motives again weren't generic or cliche and his story is clear and fully explained in the movie.

As for the bad things in the movie well,i didn't find anything that was a huge problem with the movie however this was not a perfect film.I already stated that some of the humor was forced and it doesn't seem like Marvel is learning from this also some character motivations for me shifted too quickly or easily for my liking, what i mean is during the course of the movie some events may lead a character to change during the course of the movie which seems weirdly easy and almost rushed for the sake of it this goes for Black Panther himself and Daniel Kaluuya's character but luckily it was too bad that it took your focus off the movie and another thing is certain things are not explained in the movie like the spiritual aspect is not explained and certain plot points come out of nowhere and the movie just expects you to be okay with this which is just super lazy.

Also these maybe nitpicks but some of the special effects look weird and some of the African accents are exaggerated (don't know maybe because i'm African and i notice this stuff). Now as i said the movie is pure Marvel 101 but it is different in how it executes things like the villain and how the hero grows from his challenges and learns from his mistakes which is good story-telling and the world of Wakanda was well detailed and again the African culture aspect of the film as super on point and the world building was well done and sets up the future of Black Panther without being forced.

Some may say this is a typical Marvel movie and some of that is true but with over 10 films from Marvel it is nice too see that there can be new concepts and ideas to explore while maintaining the humor, action and well done story-telling that most Marvel movie have and can't wait for the future.

Funniest Marvel Movie Yet
9 June 2017
When I saw the trailer to this movie months before its release I was excited of course but also a bit worried because it looked kind of empty and I worried that it won't feel as heartfelt as the first Guardians movie, but I was gladly wrong.

The characters is what made the movie for me because almost every character was developed in some way or the other even if I felt that they may have been too many heart to heart moments at times.Star-Lord,Gamora,Rocket and Drax continued to be interesting characters like the first GOT movie. The best Characters for me we're Yondu who had more to do than the first movie and Star-Lord father who was a welcome addition to the cast and he had good Chemistry which Star-Lord.

As for the story,it was not as great as compared to the first Guardians movie but it was good.During the first half of the movie I was entertained because there was good action, some very funny moments and just fun moments but as the movie started progressing I was worried because it seemed like there wasn't any purpose to the movie, the villain wasn't introduced and it seemed the movie was just playing along with no end game at one point I even thought the Guardians weren't gonna save the Galaxy because nothing meaningful was happening but when the last half of the movie came along it all made sense, without spoiling anything there was something hidden in the movie and when it was introduced during the last act of the movie the first half of the movie made complete sense even though it took a long time it was worthwhile.

Like I said this is Marvel's funniest movie like 4 out 5 times of the movie had me laughing even though some of the humor began to look like slapstick comedy and some sequences were just plain silly some of it worked and I'll say it again this is Marvel's funniest movie. The action sequences are similar to the first movie, entertaining but on a smaller scale, like The guardians still had to save the galaxy from something but it wasn't a battle from a city with many characters like the first GOT but it was something different with key characters and the villain only and I liked that.

Again about the characters was that each character was placed at the right time as there were key characters who contributed to the story and there were some characters that were meant for humor only which worked nicely. This film didn't have the same impactful emotional scenes as the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie but when it did they really hit.

In the end Guardians of the Galaxy vol.2 is a good sequel, had some great surprises had great humor and fun action and even cameos but its not better than the first but still a good movie.

Logan (2017)
8/10
A fitting end to Hugh Jackman's Wolverine
19 March 2017
Logan was a brutal, somber and entertaining film which was different from another other X-Men movie and followed in the steps of The Dark Knight pretty well.

Lets talk about how the R-rating worked in this film,i would say for the character Wolverine it was awesome, the slashing(action),gore and language was better because of it but in the beginning it felt a bit forced as the first line of the movie is an "F" bomb, but after a few minutes everything felt natural.

The plot is very simple and very small which was good as the movie dives into deep character emotions & developments as Wolverine is old and bitter and i found it interesting how he was reluctant throughout the film and was only helping the girl in this movie to like get rid of her,but he isn't all bad as Logan cares for professor X & the their relationship is different from other films and for this dark and gritty movie it was well needed.

Although the tone of this movie was dark, gritty & somber there is some humor and fun to be had in this movie even if it's keep at a minimum, were humor was needed the movie did it nicely. The action was on point and i loved every bit of it,from chase scenes to the slashing the action was well done & glorious. Now the characters in this movie all had some purpose and meaning to their roles especially X-23(the little girl who is helped by Logan),she was awesome in her action sequences & her acting was good,Charles Xavier was also good in this movie as it shows him as an old, tired and beaten down Professor X who isn't as wise as he was and it was very interesting to see the growth or struggle of the character.

Hugh Jackman was amazing as always as Logan and his character is pitiful, bitter and you almost wonder if he is still a hero as he refuses to help people and doesn't are about anyone expect Charles and doesn't almost care about X-23 and the film portrays & explains why he is like that and it is very satisfying.

Another reason why this movie works and why it's so different in the superhero genre is that this film is sad and so emotional especially in the 1st and 3rd act of the movie, and since its a grounded movie the tone works nicely. What annoys me in this movie is the 2nd act whereby the film becomes a bit boring & since it was a more grounded movie it focus on some real world themes which sometimes worked and sometimes didn't & you start to notice that the movie is too long and some scenes that could have been cut out,but other than that the movie is fine.

Logan was a fascinating movie full of great action, emotion and depth, this was the Wolverine movie that makes a fitting end to Hugh Jackman's 17 year run as Logan.

Good but worst one of the Trilogy
4 June 2016
Before i watched this movie,i wasn't really pumped up for it neither was i expecting a lot from it and after i watched it the result was okay.

What i can say is that X:Men Apocalypse is like the Age of Ultron or Transformers of the X:Men universe and that appealed to me because they tried to do something different with the franchise, its almost more like a blockbuster movie than a drama-like comic book movie that they did with X-Men:First Class and Days of Future Past and i liked that they took a different route.

This movie was long though and that's fine as long as it is captivating, but some scenes where just dragging on and on like the multiple times Apocalypse was recruiting his "Housemen" which began to feel a bit longer than it needed to be.One advantage though is that the characters of the movie were developed nicely and key moments between them didn't feel rushed which was a plus, however for a comic book movie it takes a longer time than usual for the movie to kick on.Best way i can describe it is like this is a film of two halves as the first half is slow paced and plot hand-holding while the second half had a faster pace full of action and explosions.

Most of the new characters in this movie are great like Scott Summers,Jean Grey and Nightcrawler,i really liked the way how these characters were handled because they are given a good backstory and their introduction is quick.I especially liked Tye Sheridan's Cyclops because in the past X:Men movies Cyclops was never given as much time as i hoped and in this one they all are.Psylocke however wasn't used as much as i hoped,Olivia Munn was OK as Psylocke but she didn't do much in the movie, its like she is just there and not really fleshed out(she did have some cool action scenes though),also Alexandra Shipp's Storm is another case as she was introduced well but felt flat as the movie went on.

Quicksilver is back in this movie and he is again awesome as he had another speed scene and i am glad to say it was bigger and better than the speed sequence he had in Days of Future past. One character i wasn't sure about was Magneto,i really doubted if he needed to be in this movie because Apocalypse was the major villain in the movie.Magneto starts out well as he is given a simple arc and you understand why he joins Apocalypse to destroy the world, but at the end of the movie his arc doesn't come to a satisfactory conclusion as he took a backseat and felt like he didn't have a voice of his own and that is what i was afraid of.

Out of the Trilogy,X-Men Apocalypse is the one with the most action, although there isn't much when compared to the length of the movie, because the movie starts out with an action sequence but after that there isn't another one for a long time until the last third of the movie which is fine because like First Class and Days of Future Past it was interesting enough and it was cool to see the more action in an X-Men movie as both First Class and Days of Future Past didn't have a lot of it,although there was a downside as some of the action didn't have much fluidity and came of a bit stiff.

Now the villain.Apocalypse was a mixed bag for me in this movie,he had a satisfactory reason for destroying the world or remaking it,he is given a brief introduction but he was an interesting enough villain as the movie went on (and he monologuing for days). He was manipulative and powerful which i enjoyed, but during the last act of the movie he somehow falls flat as he had this particular arc in this movie, but it just felt sluggish and unnecessary and in the end he doesn't have a strong impact like previous villains had.

In terms of Story it really isn't that great compared to First Class and DOFP,it is bigger but not better as it didn't have much dramatic moments which you are used to seeing in the X:Men movies and some scenes didn't have the gravitas it should have which is really disappointing. There is a lot of good humour in this movie as well which for me is always welcomed,The Wolverine Cameo was awesome and without giving much away Jean Grey in the last act...nailed it....nailed it.

X:Men Apocalypse maybe not as great its prequels, but it is an enjoyable movie with in its own right and it really makes me more excited for more X:Men films to come.

The Russo Brothers strike gold again
5 May 2016
Straight off the bat Captain America Civil War is worth the hype,it's dark, grounded, action packed, emotional and very fun.

First off the Russo brothers, these guys have to be praised because of they way how they handled each and every character in this film no matter how much of a big or small role they had everyone fit perfectly, because not only was this a Captain America sequel but this felt like an Avengers sequel as well, and the film is just handled perfectly.

So this movie starts off there winter soldier and Age of ultron picks off with the Avengers team still being intact and doing their missions then as the movie goes by you start to see that the Avengers aren't so perfect as events from the first Avengers movie,Age of Ultron,Winter Soldier and Civil War it's self, reveal that people have died during these Avenger encounters and it was really never touched upon in past movies as they made it seem the Avengers saved everything and everyone with no added consequences and this is one of the things the movie does well in exploring what has happened in the past to determine everyones motivation in the film and thus the world starts to question the Avengers' methods and the civil war between the Avengers begins.

What really impressed me was how solid everyones reason for being on either team Captain America(against the government) or team Iron Man(with the government) was,and what I found amazing was how no team was villainized as both sides remained neutral and the decision was really left to the audience as both sides were correct and again the points and reasoning for each side is spot on(well done again Russo Brothers).

Now there are some new characters in the movie namely Black Panther and Spiderman.Chadwick Boseman nails it as T'Challa/Black Panther as he has his own agenda in the film and he is just epic as you follow him and his story throughout the movie as he is one of the best things in the movie because he was so different from any other superhero we've met before.Spiderman, man Tom Holland's performance as Peter Parker/Spiderman is just amazing and you enjoy seeing him for every minute in the movie from start to finish and I definitely can't wait to see more of Spiderman in the future.Baron Zemo is the villain in Civil War,before I saw this movie I questioned whether this film needed a villain, but Baron proved to be a good villain with good motivations. What I also found surprising is how grounded the villain was as he wasn't overblown or overcomplicated,he was just a regular guy who was against the Avengers for a justifiable reason.

The Action in this movie is wonderful as Captain America:Winter Soldier had some of the best Action sequences in the MCU and I proudly say that Civil War has better, more epic and bigger action than any other comic book movie. The Airport fight scene is just incredible it's fun and heavily entertaining and it's not that one fight scene alone that's done so well as Civil War has great balance with action sequences and character interactions and with all the Avengers including Antman,Black Panther and Spiderman,Civil War is a great visual feast.

The Balance of tone is near perfection as the movie is dark and grounded in some scenes, then just shifts to a light and fun tone with some humor as you laugh multiple times in the film and when the movie needed to be emotional and dramatic the Russo brothers made it that way.

Since this is a Captain America film, the focus always goes back to Steve and his journey after Winter Soldier and his relationship with Bucky/Winter Soldier.Their relationship is also one of the strong points in this movie as Captain America never gives up of his friend Bucky and their relationship is tested in many ways in the movie.Sharon from Winter Soldier is back and plays as Steve Rogers' love interest which was a welcome surprise too and Sharon also has something to do other than being a love interest too.

Now the movie isn't perfect(but it's really close),the Ironman introduction into Civil War at the beginning of the movie was a bit sluggish and although Baron Zemo was a good villain, but his end game at the near end of the film is a bit lacking and somewhat plot-device- ish as he makes the Avengers come into quarrel and you just find Zemo's methods questionable in order to move the movie along.

So at it Captain America Civil War is a film about friendship and family which comes with the struggles of it,one thing I have to point out without giving too much away is that the friendship message is wonderful crafted in the third act and in my opinion that's were the "Civil War" begins as the tag lines suggested in the posters and trailers "United We Stand,Divided We Fall", and this message is conveyed beautiful in the movie along with some epic action, fun moments combined with some emotional moments too.

A great movie and definitely one of the best Comic book movies ever made. Can't wait for Avengers Infinity War.

Not a great movie, but not bad either.
28 March 2016
Batman v Superman for me is a complex movie but there is some enjoyment to be had in this movie.

First off the performances,Ben Affleck as Batman was a very good choice,he was just entertaining to watch. Affleck was also equally entertaining as Bruce Wayne as you get to understand why he hates Superman and what he is willing to do take him down. Wonder Woman was one of the best parts in this movie she doesn't have a big role but she just fits into the movie and i wish she could have been in the movie more as Gal Gadot does a good job at portraying Wonder Woman. Now Superman, i think Henry Cavill did the best he could do because Superman is in and out of this movie. At first the world is still struggling on whether Superman is a good guy or not and you get to see Superman struggle to get people on his side, but as the movie goes on the plot of him against the world dies down as the matter of Superman doesn't come to a conclusion.

For a movie called Batman v Superman, the focus on the fight is really focused on Batman's side as he goes on a brutal rampage to take Superman down but Superman himself isn't interested in fighting batman sure there are some signs that he is not a fan of Batman but Superman's side of the story is vague until the actual fight happens.Speaking of the fight, the build up to the fight is too quick and vague, though there is some tension, when the actual fight comes along it just happens with no real build up.The fight was entertaining but rather short, but when Doomsday comes into the picture the action is amped with Batman,Superman and Wonder Woman fight Doomsday and that fight is more entertaining than the Batman v Superman fight which is slightly disappointing for a movie called Batman v Superman.

Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor was a mixed bag for me, if your a fan of Jesse Eisenbrg then you won't be disappointed but for me Jesse as Lex Luthor was too wacky for me, he turned out to be menacing as the movie ends but he didn't have a real motive in this movie, he influences the Batman and Superman fight in some way but doesn't actually have a real agenda and his wackiness sometimes takes you out of the movie a bit.

I didn't really mind the tone of this movie it was dark and that's the way it should have been.Critics say there is no or little humor but not every superhero movie is a Marvel Movie that's what they fail to understand. There are a few chuckles in the movie and thats fine with me and Zack Synder does a good job at delivering some dramatic moments with the dark tone of the movie.

Now my biggest problem with Batman v Superman is that during the movie there are these totally unnecessary scenes, like Justice league set up the title 'Dawn Of Justice' suggested that the movie was going to touch on some justice league stuff and one one hand the introduction of the justice league was cool as you get to see other characters that could be involved in the justice league including Wonder Women, but there are some scenes that are confusing as hell and that have nothing to to with the movie like a certain dream sequence that confused me and took me out of the movie as it is never explained and you remain scratching your head on what just happened,Especially and the very end.

The action is good and entertaining especially the Batman and Wonder Woman action sequences. The Batman action sequences are brutal and fun with is unlike any other thing batman has done on screen and Wonder Woman's powers were equally entertaining. The romance between Superman and Lois lane is super vague, their relationship is never really explored and developed and when they showed deep feelings for each other you just didn't buy it.

So Batman v superman is just a mixed bag, somethings i enjoyed but some things were bad, this film could have done a lot better but there are is some fun to be had in this movie if you keep your expectations low.

Deadpool (2016)
9/10
Fun,Funny, action packed and darn awesome superhero movie.
24 February 2016
Deadpool was just...WOW, when i walked out of the cinema i just couldn't believe how good it was as it had a small budget, was small scale and the movie was short for a superhero movie, but that's what made it good you can clearly see the director, producers and cast did great with the material they had.

First off the humor..oh my gosh my humor was great,Ryan Reynolds is there perfect choice even before this movie we knew that(X-Men Origins Wolverine) and the dude brings the character to life with his portrayal .Even from the opening credits this movie starts to make you laugh and the first 10 minutes of this movie has the is best opening scene in a superhero origin story because origin stories are usually slow paced then improve to a faster pace, but this movie starts off with a fast pace and even when Deadpool isn't shown you never get bored because of the crude, rude humor,one-liners and characters in this movie.

The rest of the cast's performances were good as well as the chemistry between Ryan's Wade Wilson and Morena Baccarin's Vanessa was great, you bought the romance these two characters had, cared for their relation as it was a weird and odd relationship.Wade's Friend Weasel was also decent comic relief and the two X-Men characters Colossus and Megasonic teenage warhead(yeah) fit perfectly into this movie. The villain Ajax portrayed by Ed Skrien was actually good, this guy was a generic bad guy, but worked for this movie as he was a threat to Deadpool and people around him(and the guy was an a**hole).

What made this movie different from other superhero movies is the R-rating, at first i wasn't sure about it because from the trailers i thought they would go over the top with the R-rating, but i was wrong as this movie was better because of it, the gore, violence and of-course language was right for this movie even with some very EXPLICIT scenes it never feels out of place. The action was great, again the R-rating makes the action better and how can you not love a movie that opens up with an action sequence and one more thing to point out is even if this movie was part comedy it had some small scenes where the movie grew dark and i was really surprised by this because it fitted well and the intensity was amazing.

Now the BAD, this movie had a few bad things about it like we all know Deadpool isn't a superhero more antihero because the man is a clear and there was this whole subplot in the movie where they tried to make Deadpool be a proper hero but you know it couldn't work as the subplot was just unnecessary and pretty obvious also i pointed out that the movie has good humor there are some scenes whereby the humor feels out of place at specially whereby the movie is supposed to feel intense it just doesn't work. Then there are some annoying filler moments whereby they tried to rub some humor but just felt unnecessary and of-course with a small budget comes some bad CGI at times, but rather than that this movie is perfect.

Deadpool is the perfect origin story for the character as the movie is funny, action packed, weird and just fun,the studio made up for that monstrosity in X-Men Origins Wolverine(they shut his mouth),didn't go over the top with the R-rating and the movie was just fun despite the small budget.Superhero fans with love this movie and non-superhero fans will have a good time-BRING ON DEADPOOL 2.
