Invasion (2021)
STICK WITH IT!
I didn't know what to expect when I started watching this. Ok, so it's not about all the point and shoot at bad aliens invading (as we've seen and read all that so many times before) but what is it about?
It's about a wide range of people and how they are forced to cope with the invasion. Yes, there are stand-offs but it also looks at the wider picture of how govt and people react around the world. It was great to see how cultural differences affect people's reactions.
Stick with it. The plot development is believable. There is one episode involving the family in the farmhouse that is some of the best horror/thriller you'll find anywhere on tv or in the movies. Kudos to the actors and crew on this one. Superbly done!
Watch.
See How They Run (2022)
if you're a fan of Christie and like your humour English, try this
I'm amazed by some of the negative comments on here. This is not a barrel of laughs movie. Sure, it's got some snappy one liners but this is English humour at its best. Subtle. Like them up on the screen are letting you in on the joke but not a slap in the face with a cream pie. This isn't Vaudeville, you know. Christie fans will love all the Easter eggs with respect to references to her other stories and even to the Poirot television series. Seriously, the tenants in that block of flats in West London must all be getting some royalties for the number of times it's appeared on film. Enjoy this for what it is. A comedy mystery. Sure, it ain't Hamlet...but we knew that, didn't we?
Why Didn't They Ask Evans? (2022)
enjoy it all...
Well done Mr Laurie for including some brilliant one-liners. Doesn't play with the plot too much. Just sit back and enjoy a classic Agatha Christie. Great to see the top roles not being hogged by the top stars but some brilliant up and comers. Cheers to all!
But can somebody please give the guy from Game of Thrones and Magpie Murders a role where he doesn't end up dead? It's an AC, does that question make this a spoiler?
Spencer (2021)
don't bother.
I watched this for the reviews for KS. Why were they so good? She spends her time bent over a toilet, driving lost around Norfolk [er, she grew up here. Why would she get lost?] or doing the puppy dog eyes/lowered head look to camera or fellow actor. The dialogue is stilted. The locations are a joke. A moat around Sandringham? Doesn't exist. Sandringham as a palace? It's a house. All the shots of her roaming long corridors just wouldn't happen. You can go in to Sandringham when it is open to the public in the summer. Why did they think no one wouldn't spot this glaring error? As for the scene where a non-existent ballerina is dancing in a non-existent ballroom, well, I couldn't stop laughing. The Crown this ain't. Do yourself a favour. Get a bucket of fried chicken and watch something else.
The Prince (2021)
not for the faint hearted...but it is funny!
Imagine stewie griffin with prince in front of his name. Then you'll get it. Welcome 2 america the windsor family! (see what i did there? I know, someone should be writing this down...)
Red Lights (2012)
cillian gets to overact!
Still in training was the young pup! Hey look CM, if you're on with Sigourney W and Robert DN, don't even try to outplay them on screen. You just looked silly. It was a good story, just go with it....
Invincible (2021)
it was all going great until....
The final episode. A bit of a cop out guys. Glad there are two more series but please, don't make this like 'American Gods' and nothing happens to move the story along much each season.
And now season 2. The angst series. If you're happy with loads of time spent on relationships, internal dissonance and not much action, go for it. The story hardly progresses. It's like that tough second album in music... let's do something in season 3 please.
Palm Springs (2020)
a sci-fi rom com? now this is niche...
But good niche. Watch. Enjoy. May be a bit violent for some at times - but it is v brief!
Things Heard & Seen (2021)
the ending. worst in cinema history...
This had so much promise but how much ended on the cutting room floor? The ending though. You just go,'is that it?'
james. You naughty boy. Was it the money?
DON'T submit this in your portfolio for your James Bond audition.
The Rental (2020)
Dan's Agent: Hey Dan, got a great role for you...
It'll take about four weeks to film, you'll get a wad of cash and you won't have to do much. Ok, so the film has a script that was rejected back in the 80's but don't worry about that. They're gonna love it!
Er, no. Best acting is from Anthony Molinari or is it Chunk?
Dan, we need to have a serious conversation....
Bridgerton (2020)
oh gawd, spare us...
Look, if you want a costume romp and to forget the setting, this is your lot. Everything is so obviously an American writing on British historical society that the facts and manners are not so much ignored as put on a ship, sailed out of Portsmouth and roundly cannoned to the depths. All the British actors on set must have been falling about between takes with laughter at the whole shebang! Enjoy for the story. I'd say The Crown was more historical than this flight of fancy....
Hollywood (2020)
A guaranteed feel good ticket
Watch this. It is an imagining but it works well. loved it!
Treadstone (2019)
great story but be prepared to be disappointed...
The last episode in no way gives a resolution to everything going on. finishes at least two episodes short. if they don't renew for a new season, we're all screwed!!!!
The Cabin in the Woods (2011)
This movie is deceptive...
You think you are getting a stock horror and I mean very stock. But stick with it. It's a twist and a turn until the end. You'll smile at the cleverness of it all...
Maniac (2018)
persist!
Television for grown ups. Don't give up on this show. It has some stand out performances not least from the set decorators.
IMDb Originals: In Memoriam 2018 (2018)
very fitting tribute
Some great actors. David Ogden Stiers 'you can aspire to much more than comic books.' and now they are the top selling movies. not necessarily a good thing...
Legion (2017)
Hooray! Outside the box thinking in an American TV show...
A great show that has you guessing where is this all going? Only to get to the conclusion that is both fulfilling, original and left wanting more. This show makes you have to use your brain. A welcome title. See also The OA. American Gods.
