Killjoys (2015)
There's just one word to describe this series and it's not a good one.
When you have a show that uses every cliche' from the genre badly. A show whose characters are walking one liners not interesting enough to even make you wonder about them. A show that constantly makes you see all the previous shows that were copied because the writers can't come up with original concepts. A show that is so bad it is actually funny to watch the only word to describe it is camp. I'm not sure if that's what the show was trying for, but Killjoys succeeded in being a camp show superbly. The stories are silly. The battles are ludicrous. And the dialogue goes from painfully cliche' banter to unintelligible. The only saving graces are nice sets and good camera work. If you want a laugh dive right in, otherwise avoid this caricature of science fiction.
Prey (2022)
Cliche After Cliche
First off, I have to admit that I did not finish watching this movie. After almost halfway in I realized it was a waste of time and found something more meaningful to do like counting change. The thing that really killed it for me was the recurring cliche, I want to hunt, no you're a girl, I want to hunt, no you're a girl I'm going to hunt anyway. Yawn. I would bet money, having not seen the ending, that the girl ends up killing the predator. Second cliche, all the wisdom one liners that almost make sense. The movie is full of them. It was like a bad Kung Fu movie.
Despite the bad writing the movie does have some redeeming qualities. The scenery is beautiful and the cinematography is excellent, especially during the action sequences. The CGI is seamless and very realistic. Amber Midthunder is a gifted actress that does a superb job playing Naru.
If you have time to waste and are a fan of the Predator series then go for it. Otherwise give this movie a pass.
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004)
A movie that pretends to be funny
First let me start of by saying that I did not watch this whole movie. After about 40 minutes I wondered why I was still wasting my time and shut it off.
The jokes fell flat. The situations that were supposed to be funny weren't and the worst of it was everyone pretending like what they were doing was actually funny. There was one funny part, the water skiing squirrel, but it really had nothing to do with any of the actors in the movie. This movie had a lot of potential. The cast has each separately shown they can be hilarious. I think the failing was the script. The humor was lower than sophomoric at best and all the way to dismally unfunny at its worst. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.
Animal Kingdom: Fubar (2022)
Outstanding Ending - Exactly What An Outstanding Series Deserved
In the episodes leading up to this one we could see the train wreck that was coming. Even knowing what was coming I couldn't look away. I sat white-knuckled on the edge of my seat the whole episode without getting up even once. I think everyone knew the Cody family couldn't have a happy ending and the writers didn't disappoint. It was emotional and heart rending to see the characters we have fallen in love with meet their ends, but that was the way it had to end. All I can end with is a big thank you to the team that made the whole series. It was great all the way through and the ending did not disappoint.
Walking Tall (2004)
Don't waste your time
This remake doesn't hold a candle to the original. There's very little story being told. The action is unbelievable. About the only positive that can be said about it is the movie makes Johnson look good.
The Orville: Deflectors (2019)
More Woke BS
If you look forward to having an agenda pounded into your head you will love this episode. I watch TV shows for entertainment, not for a sermon. The episode was hokey. Nothing of interest really happened. One more episode like this will be the last one I watch.
Star Trek: Picard: Monsters (2022)
Was there a writer's strike and they forgot to tell us?
How many times have we seen the "missions success requires delving into someone's mind" episode? Well, add one more. This is just plain old lazy writing.
The Good Fight: And the Two Partners Had a Fight... (2021)
A healthy look at issues
This is my favorite episode of the season. The writers took a hard look at cancel culture and not blindly following the liberal agenda at the expense of all else. The theme seemed to be that it is okay to disagree on issues but it doesn't mean you have to be enemies. The relationship between Kurt and Diane is a case in point. They are politically polar opposites but have a true love and respect for each other that transcends personal opinions.
Extraction (2020)
Too Cliche
First off I have to admit to not watching all of this film and here is why: When Gaetan hid Tyler and Ovi I said to myself, "If Gaetan calls the bad guys for the money I am turning this movie off for being too cliche'. Sure enough. less than 5 minutes later the movie got turned off.
If you like mindless high death counts with a cliche plot you will love this movie. Chris Hemsworth is great as the cliche "troubled badass with a death wish". The stunts are great, everyone dies so spectacularly. But, is an original plot too much to ask for?
Star Trek: Discovery: Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2 (2019)
Too much cheesy dialogue.
Every episode seems to get worse on the cheesy, emotional dialogue. This one was the worst. The story is good but while people are dying it seems that everyone in this show has time to stand around and talk. How many lives would have been saved if they had just gotten on with the mission?
