Auschwitz: The Nazis & the 'Final Solution' (2005)
The Best Documentary On the Holocaust
This documentary done by Laurence Rees is without a doubt the best documentary I have ever seen on the Holocuast. It shows the history of the camp of Auschwitz and its role in the extermination of the Jews of Europe.
The documentary does a great job mixing interviews with survivors as well as members of the SS, Hlinka Guard and a Eitzgruppen soldier. For me the most interesting interviews where with the people who committed the crimes. A lot of them said they did not feel guilty about what they did. Otto Georning the SS handler of money of Auschwitz talked about how after the war he came forward to silence the people who said Auschwitz never happened.
To me as a person who teaches students about the Holocuast it is important for people to realize that human beings are capable of great evil and this documentary does a good job is showing that. It also shows the goodness of people including LT. Albert Battel who saved 100 Jews. I feel that people who are interested in the Holocaust or just want to learn about Auschwitz rent this.
The Singing Revolution (2006)
Moving Documentary
I rented this documentary from Netflix not expecting a whole lot, but I was so wrong and it was so well done and deserved more recognition and praise. This movie is a very moving documentary that shows how little Estonia defied the Soviet Union by singing. The Singing Revolution tells the true story how Estonia through song got their independence from the Soviet Union.
Now the questions must be asked how is this possible, how can singing change the world, well Estonia can show you how. Using music and interviews this documentary is a good view from anyone who loves a good and inspiring story.
Black Hawk Down (2001)
My Favorite Movie
This is my favorite movie. I've seen more times than any normal person should. The movie is an excellent war movie, that only shows 24 hours of the American operation in Somalia in 1993. The battle scenes in the movie were authenic and did not use any of the cheesy bs that you see in some other movies today. It is a real look at the operation that went horribly wrong. The scene where the Black Hawk is shot down was put together so well and did not overdue the CGI effects.
The scene in the movie where Jamie Smith was dying was shoot perfectly. The acting was superb, and the light hit the screen, so I felt bad for him.
I show this movie to all my friends, if you like good movies. See this movie. I cannot see how people could not like it.
Snakes on a Plane (2006)
Worth Seeing
This was without a dobut the most hyped of the year. For once it lived to the hype. Snakes on a Plane, ws amazing. Samuel L. Jacksonw was the only person who could pull the movie off, well. This was not a good bad movie, but a great action movie. The snakes looked real and it was amazing. The deaths were what made this movie, the guy that bite on his d***, the couple that got taken out while joining the mile high club, the guy who was shallowed by the dinosaur looking snake. It was enjoyable. Seeing this movie with my friends made it so worthwhile. I mean the movie was not disappointing at all. GO SEE SNAKES ON A PLANE.!!!!
The Great Raid (2005)
Very Good Movie
The best World War II movie dealing with the Pacific Theather of the war. I saw a sneak peek of the movie on Saturday. The movie is a stirring tribute to the 6th Ranger Regiment and the prisoners of wars in the Cabanatuan camp. In American military history never had so many Americans surrendered at one time then surrendered in 1942 in the Philippines. After the surrender of the American soldiers on Philippines, they were put through three years of hell. From the Japanese mistreatment and murder of prisoners and the lack of food and water the prisoners had almost lost hope.
At the beginning of the movie there was a very sad and moving scene showing Japanese soldiers butchering and burning alive 150 American POWS at Palawan. The whole rest of the movie shows the 6th Ranger Regiment moving towards their objective to free 513 American and Allied prisoners of war at Cabanatuan, and the inside of the camp.
The last 30 minutes of the movie probably was the best ending in any movie I've seen in a while. The Raid was well shoot and was moving. By the end of the movie, nearly everyone in the movie theater was crying or at least shedding a few tears. The movie was probably one the best of 2005.
