Groundhog Day (1993)
Murray at Groundhog day
This is one of the best comedies ever made. Bill Murray does a great performance in this one, as the weatherman on a local news station. He travels to Puxatawney in Pennsylvania to bring the news of the Groundhog day. And he hates to do it. And he is glad when he is on his way home at the end of this day, but when they are on the highway, they have to go back because there will be a storm. Phil (Bill Murray) goes back to his bed and breakfast, and the wakes up the next morning with the same song in the radio as the day before. First he thinks it's deja vu, but after waking up again, on Groundhog day, he knows that there is something very very very wrong. He's having his worst day over, and over, and over again. And all the other people don't know, they just living the day. And Phil falls in love with Rita (Andie MacDowell), and he has to win her love everyday over and over again. This is a great comedy, just hilarious scenes, a great Bill Murray and some romance, over, and over, and over again.
Lost in Translation (2003)
First time was beautiful but slow, the second time I loved it, third time....
Before I saw this movie a few weeks ago for the first time, and I thought it was a comedy. If you want to see a comedy don't watch this one. This is a very serious movie. It does have some funny moments, and of course Bill Murray is funny as always. The reason I wanted to see this movie was because of the great reviews. And because of Bill Murray (on of my favorite actors) and Scarlett Johansson (I was curious about her). Bob Harris (Bill Murray) is in Tokyo for a commercial and Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson) is in Tokyo with her husband, who is there for his work. They stay in the same hotel and meet each other a couple of times. They really like each others company, and they both seem not happy in their marriage. When Bob and Charlotte go out they become close friends in a few days. The scene in the end is just one of my favorites of all movies, I just love it. The first time I saw it, the movie was a bit slow, what a lot of people think. But a few days ago I saw the movie again, and I just loved it. The filming was beautiful, the music is just beautiful, the actors are great. And some scenes are just funny, when Murray is on the home-trainer, and his conversation in the waiting room, with the old Japanese man. And of course his 'Suntory Time' commercial. The first time I gave it a 7/10, now and 8/10, after the second time, and I bought the DVD so the third time....maybe a 9/10 or a 10/10. Just watch it, and I you don't know what to think of it, watch it again.
And if you can and you enjoyed this movie, watch the making of. It was great to see Sofia Coppola was when she was going to meet Bill Murray, she was in tears. Or Bill Murray dancing in his bath rope and speaking his only Japanese line (Who do you think you're talking to?) Just nice to see this.
Enjoy Lost in Translation
Life as a House (2001)
Good movie, great acting
When George (Kevin Kline) is diagnosed with cancer he wants to take care of his son Sam (Hayden Christensen) for the summer. His ex-wife (Kristin Scott Thomas) married another man and has two sons with him, and she doesn't really keep an eye on Sam. Sam has a bad life, he is a drug addict, is a prostitute and doesn't give anything about his parents. George doesn't know all this and wants to have a good relationship with his son, by building a new house with Sam.
The movie has a good story, some great actors, Kevin Kline is very good in this one. Very different than his roles in A Fish Called Wanda and I Love You To Death. He is very good in dramatic and serious roles. And I really enjoyed the performance of Hayden Christensen. His acting seemed very real, and I think he is really hot in this one, with his make-up, black hair and clothes and his chin piercing. The script was very good and the movie has some great filming locations with very beautiful looking scenes.
If you are a Kevin Kline or Hayden Christensen fan, or you just like good drama movies, you should definitely go see this movie.
The Graduate (1967)
One of my favorites!
Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman) doesn't know what to do with his life. After taking Mrs. Robinson (Anne Bancroft) home she tries to seduce him. He starts to have an affair with her, and she is much older than him. But than he falls in love with her daughter Elaine(Katharine Ross).
I liked the story and especially the great performance of Dustin Hoffman. It has great scenes and the music, by Simon and Garfunkel, fits great in this movie. And I really liked the end scene. The look on there faces and the music is just great! I recommend this movie to everyone, especially Dustin Hoffman fans!
Also the extra's on the DVD are nice to watch. It has the making of and some interviews with the actors and the film makers.
