Truth or dare ?
7 September 2006
Spanish films and especially Spanish comedies have a very subtle touch to them. Humour is a tool very skillfully used in this movie and is guaranteed to appeal to those looking for a light, yet meaningful comedy.

The actors' performances are brought up to high levels, and although this isn't a film thriving for a place at the Oscars, it is very well done, with good directing and music.

The action of the movie develops around 4 characters, more exactly 2 couples. One of them is Ernesto and Lea, and the other Alberto and Susana. The first of them are a middle class couple, with Ernesto a kind of laid-back individual and Lea a very ambitious TV translator for deaf watchers. The 2nd couple represent the friends that always have more than you. Alberto and Ernesto are very good friends, Ernesto working for his friend's father. When Ernesto is diagnosed with terminal-faze brain tumor, things start to complicate.

A great movie, for ala.

Great Romanian movie...
25 May 2005
This is a great example of how a Romanian movie can make a lasting impression. It is, i would think, a movie made for the Romanian audience and the Romanian-speaking viewers; i haven't seen the English version, but i would doubt it would have the same effect. A grate movie by all accounts. Good acting and good screen play. The story is a profound account of Romanian history and society, and, as i said before, any Romanian can relate to that, i don't know about foreigners. The film is about a corrupt senator who is spending some leisure time at his country-side villa; a young peasant women with high professional aspirations needs this senator's help in building up her carrier, the question is, what sacrifices has she to make... Add some ethical conflicts and strong drama plus a group of western journalists, and you get a movie that will surely make a lasting impression, and it makes you think about certain things...

Love cannot surpass death.
25 April 2005
The movie, although not a great success at the box office and not very appreciated by the critics, is in fact very touching and profound.

Love, the strongest of human emotions is in fact powerless in the face of Death. Sara Deever, suffering from an incurable disease decides to live her last months of life to the full, adopting a kind of 60's hippie life style and choosing for each month a different boyfriend/lover. Nelson Moss, a very down to earth upper-class business is Sara's November "date", and her last.

Keanu Reeves' natural acting talent and Charlize Theron's untainted beauty make a perfect combination in a movie that changes the way you see life and will undoubtedly touch in more than one way.

I give it a well deserved 8.
