Storyline

The Senator feels fine. He has just inaugurated a windmill and now he feels like having snails for dinner. All the villagers are summoned to get some for him. Unfortunately for the great man, a terrible drama erupts and although Mr. Senator has nothing to do with it, it spoils an evening that looked pretty good. Besides, the snails prove disappointing. All in all, the Senator has had a foul day. Written by Guy Bellinger

Great Romanian movie...
25 May 2005 | by simipurzaSee all my reviews

This is a great example of how a Romanian movie can make a lasting impression. It is, i would think, a movie made for the Romanian audience and the Romanian-speaking viewers; i haven't seen the English version, but i would doubt it would have the same effect. A grate movie by all accounts. Good acting and good screen play. The story is a profound account of Romanian history and society, and, as i said before, any Romanian can relate to that, i don't know about foreigners. The film is about a corrupt senator who is spending some leisure time at his country-side villa; a young peasant women with high professional aspirations needs this senator's help in building up her carrier, the question is, what sacrifices has she to make... Add some ethical conflicts and strong drama plus a group of western journalists, and you get a movie that will surely make a lasting impression, and it makes you think about certain things...
