Mean Girls (2024)

Awkward and clunky
29 March 2024
I tried not to compare it to the original film, but it was a little hard not to. This version was a little messy and incoherent. I found myself bored and not laughing. I also feel most of it was miscast. Cady was bland, and her character development was forced and came out of nowhere. I didn't buy it. I didn't find any of the songs particularly catchy, and I was disappointed there wasn't much choreography. Even if this were a standalone film and the original never existed I still wouldn't give it high marks. I think if it had a different director it could have been much better. If you don't compare it to the former film, then you might find this movie ok and enjoy it more than I did.

Ridiculous but entertaining
16 August 2023
It's technically not a good show and very corny. Everything is unrealistic and the mellow drama is heavy handed. The characters have no chemistry with each other even though some are meant to be love interests. The silly storylines and bad acting tie it all in. It's bad. Really bad. And keeps getting worse. The creator Ryan Murphy tends to make shows that jump the shark and keep jumping and then kills the shark and its whole shark family. Mommy shark. Daddy shark. And even baby shark! However, as cringy as it is, it's still very watchable and entertaining. I actually like it but it's more like a guilty pleasure show.

Better than expected
30 August 2022
What's with some of the super bad reviews? I feel they are way too harsh. It was actually pretty good! I honestly was just expecting a cookie cutter copycat of the first film. It was a fun watch though. Definitely not what you will expect but I'll say no more. Side note: It turns out she's killed even before this prequel. That's not a spoiler. So it should be Orphan: ? Kill. Anyway, I recommend it! It's saying my review is too short so feel free to stop reading now this is just filler now I have nothing left to say. I don't know
20 August 2022
I decided to watch this because I was having a lot of anxiety and I didn't want to see anything serious. Unfortunately my anxiety got the best of me and I wasn't able to pay attention to the movie. However, I feel like I probably did not love the movie. If I did actually pay attention to it I probably would have just thought it was OK. One thing that stood out to me most was that the vampires did a lot of backbends throughout the fight scenes. It was cool the first time and then I was over it. The fight coordinator had a limited imagination. I may try watching it again and update my review and star rating but I probably won't.

Corny and boring
9 June 2022
99% of gay movies are ever "good" because they rely too much on stereotypes and sex, but as queer people we gotta support them. Diversity and visibility are important. I just feel at this point society has evolved enough to make actual good gay movies. I guess the film is supposed to be a comedy but not one thing made me laugh. This one was very poorly written and acted. It came across as an amateur student film. Unrealistic nonsense stories between annoying characters, who had no chemistry. The only nice thing was the fact there are Asian leads which is also important representation. My suggestion is to play on your phone while having the movie play in the background in order to support a queer movie.

Cute and fun
5 June 2022
It's a lighthearted post-apocalyptic movie about a guy on a quest to unite with his lost love. Chaos ensues. With big bugs. It reminded me a bit of PG rated version of Zombieland. Same vibe and structure. It's a cute little film with a short runtime. A nice movie for the family.

Terrible
21 May 2022
I had high hopes for this. I figured Tim Burton would knock it out of the park. Instead he struck out. All the charm the original had is completely gone here. The acting was terrible. Even from Johnny Depp who sounded like a Michael Myers character. The reimagined factory was dull and uninspired. The new Oompa Loompas were boring and the songs they sang were awful! The CGI was awful too. And the ending was a mess. I sound harsh but I had such great expectations.

It was ok
14 May 2022
Nothing groundbreaking, just an average simple comedy. I wanted it to be funnier but it fell flat most of the time. I still kinda enjoyed it though. I would have liked it more but the 3rd act seemed so rushed. Watch it when there's nothing else to do before bed.

Similar to The Strangers
12 May 2022
Aside from the slightly unlikable characters, this was a pretty solid thriller/horror. I would compare it to The Strangers. Very similar vibe, style and even same idea but with a twist. I could see this as a sequel to it actually. It starts off a little slow but I wasn't bored. Then really picks up the pace. I was entertained and on the edge of my seat at one point and it didn't even have to do with any horror aspect. I won't give anything away. Overall it is a nice, easy watch when you're in the mood for a little something creepy.

Very flawed but entertaining
9 May 2022
The movie is watchable and even kinda fun at times, but it's technically not a good movie. Poorly written, acted, and directed. There are so many plot holes and contradictions that it's laughable. I'm not sure how the filmmakers didn't catch this. But for some reason I was still entertained and it kept my attention. Great concept, just poorly executed. I'd recommend watching as a casual viewing like on a rainy day when there's nothing else to do.

I actually kinda liked it
19 February 2022
Sure it wasn't perfect but better than the last couple of "requels." Go in with moderate expectations and you should enjoy. If nothing else the gore is plentiful and creative.

I had a good time
30 January 2022
This is basically a satire of one of those corny Lifetime "Movie of the Week" shows they make for bored housewives. However, it plays into the joke so well that it's also a solid mystery whodunnit that keeps you guessing. Sometimes to a point where you forget it's technically a comedy. In the past, Kristen Bell has proven herself to be a great comedic actor and can also shine in dramatic roles, so she did the perfect balance between the two. It's an easy watch and I think will be enjoyable for those who usually have differing tastes. A little something for everyone.

Not sure I understood
25 January 2022
It was ok. I didn't fully get the ending but up till that point I was mostly entertained. Not much of an original concept but that didn't bother me. I do like how they used their limited budget. An aspiring filmmaker might learn a few things. This was a movie I watched to kill time so it was good for that purpose.

No style, no real substance
9 January 2022
If the first film did not exist, I would have considered this an average "meh" young teen movie. However, because we can't help but compare it to the first brilliant movie, this one pales in comparison. The witches in this film were not as interesting as the original four, nor as likable. The magic was unimpressive, storyline weak (and filled with plot holes), and the acting was subpar. Especially from David Duchovny. It seemed as though he was forced into doing this movie so he purposely made sure to act as poorly as possible out of spite. A quick side note: All of the teenage boys looked so much alike I couldn't figure out who was who most of the time and to be perfectly honest, I'm still confused.

Ok so far
18 November 2021
Too soon to give a star rating but anything is better than the last couple seasons of the original Dexter. So I kept my expectations low. The first episode was ok. A little rocky but not terrible. I found the 2nd episode to be much better. Parts of the plot are a little far fetched and too convenient but I can suspend my disbelief enough to enjoy like I did the original.

What did I just watch?
11 November 2021
So not every movie in the franchise is amazing but this one was by far the worst. I was actually heartbroken on how bad it is. The one before this was ok (preferred H20 timeline) but Halloween Kills is just hard to stand up for and forgive. Terrible acting. Ludicrous storyline. Resurrection was even better. On the plus side it was cool seeing the grown up kids in it and there's plenty of gore, albeit mean spirted.

It was fine
11 November 2021
I kept seeing it #1 on Netflix so decided to give it a try. It was slow paced but interesting. I was bored at times. There are much better Korean shows and movies so not sure how this one caught on and became so popular. Overall it was fine.

Loved it
30 October 2021
It's one of my new "comfort" movies. Although there have been a lot of films with very similar concepts (A Quite Place, The Silence, The Happening, etc.) I feel this is the better of most of them. Great acting. Interesting and smart characters that you actually care about. Well paced. It primarily takes place in one location and they make the best of it. Of course nothing is perfect but I definitely recommend!

If Euphoria was a thriller
29 October 2021
This series is very different than the movies. Like night and day. Only similarity is the general idea of the past coming back to haunt you. I applaud them in trying to make it their own. So far it's better than I thought it was going to be but still not great. It's very slow-paced and seems more like a drama at times. It's definitely heavily influenced by Euphoria's aesthetic, but not as authentic. It's watchable and keeps my attention so I'd recommend giving it a try. Just keep your expectations to a minimum.

Boring and predictable
29 October 2021
I'm a big Saw fan. Wasn't expecting a masterpiece but this was not only bad but pointless! Bad acting. Weak story. Unlikable characters. Saw the end/twist coming from literally the very first 15 minutes. The traps sucked. The gore minimal for a Saw movie. And worst of all it was just very boring. I really don't have much else to say.

It's ok so far
21 October 2021
I always give a new show a couple or so episodes to get their footing. I've only seen the first 2 episodes. So far it's not bad. The tone is more horror but definitely had the Chucky humor and one-liners. I was expecting a bit better but maybe it'll improve as time goes on. I recommend giving it a shot.

Not terrible
9 October 2021
Starts off a little iffy, but picks up and is actually entertaining. It wasn't anything groundbreaking but it did its job. I had fun watching it anyway. Good direction, cinematography, and acting, even from Megan Fox who gets a lot of hate for her talent. I was most impressed with Ms. Fox's makeup artist who kept her face irrationally and unrealistically flawless throughout. Overall it's a decent movie to watch if bored at home.

Ben Falcone needs to stop making movies
9 April 2021
This was like a blah Disney movie but with curse words and sexual innuendos so I'm confused as to who the target audience is. Melissa McCarthy's (whom I love) husband wrote and directed the movie and once again he just doesn't have what it takes. All of his films have been stinkers. I also love Octavia Spencer but she isn't a comedic actress so her performance fell very flat for me. Overall, I'd say skip it. It was boring and brought nothing at all original to the table.

Fun movie with flaws
15 March 2021
Although I enjoyed the film and it kept my attention, I can't help but feel it could have been executed better. The worst part were the characters. They talked way too much and I suspect the dialogue was written by a film student. They all looked SO much alike and with the movie taking place in the dark, it was hard to tell them apart. That made things a little confusing and impossible to care about their fates as much. Other than that I thought it was a pretty fun movie.

I've seen worse... ?
15 March 2021
It was like Hostel meets The Game with one of those of Escape Room movies (there's been like a million) thrown in. One could even say it was a straight up lower budget ripoff of mostly Hostel. That all being said, I wasn't bored while watching it. If you've never seen the films I've mentioned then you will enjoy this more than I did. For me it was just meh.
