Under the Skin (2013)
Brilliant, Fresh & Stimulating in every sense...
Whenever you have a groundbreaking film that redefines Form, you are going to have some that either love it or hate it. Having said that, as I get older I more often find reading the user comments on IMDb fills me with despair for the species. For anybody to dismiss Under The Skin as "boring" they must have no interest in human consciousness, science, technology, philosophy, history or the art of film-making. Finally I understand why most Hollywood productions are so shallow and vacuous - they understand their audience.
"Under The Skin" is unique among films in content and scope. The cinematography is out-of-this-world, breathtaking, and the musical score is sublime. I rarely use the word "masterpiece" to describe a movie. But Jonathan Glazer's "Under The Skin" is art in the highest sense, like Leonardo da Vinci's "Mona Lisa", or Vincent Van Gogh's "The Starry Night".
The film requires you to watch in a different way than you normally watch films. It requires you to experience strange and beautiful images without feeling guilty that there is no complex plot or detailed characterization. Don't get me wrong, plots and characters are good, but they're not the be-all and end-all of everything. There are different KINDS of film, and to enjoy 'Under The Sin' you must tune your brain to a different wavelength and succumb to the pleasure of beauty, PURE beauty, 'the vast unknown' and an Alien perspective, unfettered by the banal conventions of everyday films.
"Under The Skin" is a absolutely unique movie experience. Those who miss out on it do so at the detriment of their own intellectual and imaginative capacities.
The Institute (2012)
FINALLY!!! A film that is related to the NSA's Mind Control program...
There have been many attempts to do a straight up documentary about the NSA's Mind Control program, but it's been shot down every time it gets going. Someone in the govt gets wind of it and then before it even gets off the ground, the project is terminated.
This seems to take ALL of the aspects of what Targeted Individuals experience-- Electronic Harassment, gang stalking, EEG Cloning with supercomputers that send back other negative cloned emotions from other individuals via electromagnetic microwaves. In order to map a person's electromagnetic signature, you have to have them in one spot for a good while to capture their unique signal. That's why most TI's are picked up at low income apartment buildings... they clone them there, through walls, then once they have the signature signal... they're tagged for life. I'm surprised this project got this far... even though they're turning some of the story into fiction, by making it look like a game. It should be interesting to see what other projects come out, now that this has been released.
Stories We Tell (2012)
Wonderful genre bending film
Sarah Polley is just wonderful. She is a lovely and intelligently gifted artist and thanks to her love of exploring she has created a very uniquely enjoyable documentary that tells the story of an issue within her family, from various points of view. Having it told from more than one perspective (in such an intimate way) is what makes this film work so well. Events are commonly remembered differently from person to person, depending on what is important to that individual... and this film puts that phenomena on display. It's like sitting in on a family discussion, among people that love each other very much. Whenever 10 people look at 1 thing, there are 10 different versions of that 1 thing existing in mass consciousness.
Her talent has not been tainted by 'US Hollywood Inc'. She's very thoughtful and is able to focus on telling a story in an original way- even if her biological father insisted on telling the story from just his perspective. Seeing the finished product is justifying enough that her choice was the way to go. What she's created is Very original in form and she should be very proud of her finished product. This is a testament to Family, Love and what ties human beings together through the 'Stories We Tell' to one another.
I know when I'm seeing something special and this was definitely in that realm.
