Great, fun and original superhero-type-of-film
25 July 2016
I had the pleasure of seeing ''Superpowerless'' on big screen on its World Premiere at Fantasia International Film Festival (2016) and I had a great time! The trailer seemed fine, but what really got me to the cinema was the premise itself. I was afraid that the description would be better that the result, but the film succeeded.

It's really a fun film in an era where all these superhero's flicks are everywhere to finally see a film where what really matters is the psychological aspect of the main hero / character and the people surrounding him. Asking one basic question : what would happen if someone like ''Captain America''would suddenly lost his powers and was condemned to live a normal life? Knowing he would never go back to a time where he felt relevant, what would be his reaction?

In a that sense, the film is really interesting in showing normal situations from a genre point of view, giving a chance for the audience to actually care and relate to the characters and what happen to them.

The actors were really touching as these were faces new to me. They look like actual real people and play like them and it gives this film an original touch that even those independent film in the USA usually can't propose because they need a star in it (and seriously, I'm in for good storytelling, not ''startelling'').

On top of all this, what was really touching was the Q&A and knowing the story behind the making of the film.

'' Let's just make a film! And don't let yourself film powerless by not doing it. ''

That's what I learnt again and that's what I'll do, another film myself.

Thanks for a fun and great moment of San Francisco cinema!

Eric

Land of the Dead - Great movie for Zombie lovers!
27 June 2005
Note: 79/100 Directed: 8 Actors: 6 Music: 6 Sound effects: 9 Story plot: 8 Script: 7 Originality: 9 Leading plot: 8 Special Effects/Make-up: 10 Style/Environment: 8

My point of view: I waited for so long to see something of George A. Romero and perhaps I expected too much. For that reason, I was maybe disappointed a little. Still a very good film, but it missed something, something that always been missing in all his films. But if you are amateur of this kind of movie(Zombie and gore-fest) you will enjoy a lot and believe me. There's blood and body parts everywhere and I do not know who gave 13 and + as parental guide but he has to be blind. Still, a very good film signed Romero.

story 8/10: The story is good. Romero concentrates so much on his stories and he tries at the same time to make a critic of the current world or mankind. In Land of the Dead, all is there, the classes socials, racism, the goods and the bad ones and obviously the ZOMBIES. What is especially boring it's perpetual "fight" between the nice guy (Simon Baker) and the bad guy (John Leguizimo). It seems like Romero needed absolutely another bad guy (in addition to the rich and cruel dictator of the city). I don't know why he put such a ridiculous character, maybe just to make an opposite to the Hero. That thing sucks.

The script is OK, but most of the dialogs suck, stupid one-liners, needless expressions or whatever.

Still a very good film, but if you are like me, you expected more.

8/10 and i am generous cause i have a lot of respect for Romero.
